"DROP IN SOMETIME'
PIG DINNER. '67
In a few weeks we ifill reacli that time of the year when
Chi chapter holds its annual Norris Pig Dinner. At this year's
dinner, the 74th, the Master of Oerimonies will he Brother Dave
Puroell (Denison, '53)• Brother Purcell, the Director of Estate
Planning, has graciously consented to head the dais. As you will
remember from our recent letter, the main speaker at Pig Dinner
'6? will be Archon Vice President Herbert A. Erf. Brother Erf
is an eloquent, intelligent speaker and we are sure that you
will be fascinated both x-rith his talk and when you speak with
him personally. Besides the dinner we have also planned several
other functions. At 3:30 P. M. the Chi Association will hold
a meeting including the election of officers. During the meeting
the wives of attending brothers Tfill enjoy a tour of the campus
and Jackson's Garden. After the dinner a small jazz band will
entertain an informal gathering. And of course cocktails will
be served before the dinner- starting at 5:30 P. M.
¥e sincerely hope that you id.ll accept our invitation and
come back to Chi and Union, if for no other reason than just
to see what the new chapter house is like. ¥e are sure that you
>dll be pleasingly amazed idth the broad changes in the physical
facilities of both the chpter and of Union College as a whole.
Hope to X see you at the all new Phi Gamm House, Saturday, April
29, for our 74th Norris Pig DinnerI

On Tuesday'-, April 4, Union's

On the evening of Monday,
March 27, 14 new brothers joined
you in brotherhood at Phi Gamma

This year's key speaker was
Gai^T Buttner 0f Rochester who is
Executive Secretary ¥illiam S.

in the campus and the community.

Brother Zerman stressed two

points. First, any fraternity

system, must, if it is to con
tribute, furthur the aims of the
college. That which the partic
ular institution regards as most
important must become a concern
of the fraternities, a definite
object of their efforts.
Second, fraternities must in

form their "publics" as to what
they are doing, and why. These
publics are of three types: the
College faculty, the general pub
lic of the location, and the
alumni. Faculties and the general
public are usually ignorant of,
or biased against, fraternities,
a condition which exists part
ially through the fraternities'
own laxness.
After the speech seminars
were formed in several of the
chapter houses to talk over var
ious problems of chapter admin
istration in relation to Brother
Zeman's remarks. Most of the
discussions turned out to be
worthwhile, and the entire affair
was judged a success.
These fourteen compatible freshmsn
compose a prime, diverse group of
the class of 70's finest. In size
they range from a 215 pound Maine
shot-putter doi-ra to a 5'5" South
Albany pre-med. Among their act
ivities are wrestling, laccross,
track, soccor, cross-country, ten
nis, R.O.T.C., glee club, outing
club and other various groups.
Beyond the college affilliated
activities these new initiates
also find recreation in sk-iine;.
skating, hunting., fi filing, and one
even finds enjoyment through
shooting rapids in a canvas kayak.
These fine, young men are a credit
to Phi Gamma Delta and will help
Chi to flourish and grow in our
new house. ¥e hope that you will
be as impressed >rith them as we
are when you meet them in the new
house and listen to Archon VicePresident Herb Erf speak at Pig

house into our new home. T'Jhile
the move was marred by the
adamantine enforcement by the
college of its rule that no dogs
may be kept in college ox-med res
idence halls, thereby forcing us
to get rid of our tvro mascots,
the physical transfer was re
markably smooth. The move began
on Easter Sunday night with per

the new house but ate in the old

FIJI DONORS
On Tuesday and Wendesday of
the week of February 12, Chi chap
ter displayed its spirit and unity
through its efforts during the
Arnold Air Society's Annual Blood
Drive. For the third consecutive
year we topped all other frater
nities and living units with the
greatest number of donors. For our
efforts we received praise from
the American Red Cross and a keg
of beer from the Arnold Air Society.

f
Been sufficiently settled to eat our first meal in the new house.
The college generously supplied a truck to aid us in the move
which was a great aid for several days,
?Jhile there were many complaints about moving into a "dorm",
they have all but dissappeared. Luxuries such as hot water all the
time and not having your feet stick to the floor on a cold morning
in the bathroom have overcome all complaints about "too sterile
an atmosphere". And the realization that it is the people and nof
the physical surroundings that make a fraternity has convinced
most of us that a fraternity can prosper in a dorm. Especially in
one as fine as ours. We hope that you will be impressed vrith our
new house when you come to see it Pig Dinner, '67,
