SMOKER
Xi Deuteron's Hcaneccaning Smoker will be
held on Thursday, Novwnber 9» 19^7 at the
chapter house on 11317 Bellflower Road. A
social hour will kick off the smoker at
5!30, followed by a dinner at 6:45. Admis
sion to the dinner is $3.50 per person.
Officers of the Cleveland Graduate Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta will be elected at this
event.
A TRIBUTE
Carl D. Friebolin, one of Xi Deuteron*s
most illustrious alumni recently passed
away at the age of 89. An 1899 graduate
from the Reserve Law School, he went on
to become a major figure in both local
and state politics as x^ell as remaining
active in school affairs.
Brother Friebolin was bom January I9,
1878 and grew up in Cleveland.
Following
his graduation he practiced law for several
years and in I9II entered the Ohio House
of Representatives,
INITIATION
On October 9, I967, Xi Deuteron Chapter
of Phi Gamma Delta initiated eight neophytes
into Brotherhood:
Edward Spencer Babcox, III
Shaker Heights, Ohio
John Albert Vanek
Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Kenneth Joseph Lucas
Garfield Heights, Ohio
In 1913 be was elected
to the state Senate where he was instru
mental in enacting a new state constitution.
Three years later he was appointed to
the judge's life of the Bankruptcy Court,
a position which he held until his death.
One of the main reasons for his local
prominence was his writing of the"City
Club Anvil Revue," a satire of local and
national politics, which he wrote for
forty-eight consecutive years. On his
seventy-eighth birthday he was honored
jat a civic testimonial banquet which
included D,S, Senators Stephen
Young
[and Frank J, lausche as speakers.
He served on several civic committees
