1988 Rush
1988 Formal Rush began on Friday,
August 19 with nearly 400 men signed up.
During the first round of parties, Robert
Cook '90, put together a slide show
illustrating the five points of Phi Gamma
Delta, for the enjoyment of both the chapter
and the rushees. During the second round of
parties, Alan Callicott, '86 spoke on the
five points that Phi Gamma Delta stresses.
Entertainment for this round of parties was
provided by Nan Sumrall, Miss Mississippi
1985. During the third and final round of
Rush, Richard McRee gave his speech on
what fraternity life has meant to him and
the advantages of going Greek.
On Tuesday night, 34 pledges ran up the
coliseum stairs to an anxiously awaiting
chapter.
Rush 1988 was a great success due to help
from graduates, undergraduates, chapter
mothers, and FIJI little sisters. Thanks to
all those who helped make Rush 1988 one of
the best ever for Sigma Mu.

The first "Mom" of the Sigma Mu chapter of Phi
Gamma Delta retired this past year. Mary M.
Winston, mom to Sigma Mu Fiji's for 8 years
informed the chapter last spring that she would be
retiring to live with her daughter in Ripley. Mom
played an integral part in daily life at the FIJI house
from helping with meals to mending clothes. We
wish her all the best in her retirement.
