THE NEWSLETTER OF DELTA DEUTERON ,
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
In my short time as President here at Delta
Deuteron, I have already had many gratifying
experiences, culminating with the Hampden-Sydney
College's final convocation, where Delta Deuteron
received the Greek Week Cup, the Fraternity
Intramural Award, and Honorable Mention for
House Improvement. Brothers, THIS IS ONLY THE
BEGINNING!!! Phi-Gam Scholarship remains num
ber one, and we are look

Editor's Note
Allow me to begin this article by apologizing for the
tardiness of this alumni newsletter. I am afraid that
the rigorous academic obligatioi|^f HampdenSydney have kept me and others from being able to
finish the layout process oi^^me. As you may
already be aware, the 1987-1988 academic year was an
outstanding opportunity for Delta Deuteron to excel in
the many areas of campus activity. HampdenSydney's Phi-Gams had an excellent fall and spring
rush, and finished the year
by capturing the 1987-88

of these trophies in the same year. We hope to
continue Delta Deuteron's "quest for excellence" in
the upcoming '88-'89 a^demic year. We are also
proud of Robert Citrorte'p, who was awarded the
Wilkinson award for the inost outstanding Ph^^m
two more brothers, as well as constructing a new
brick walkway for the front of the house. Later
projects will include refurbishing the house

costly, and graduate donations are an important part
of this process. Delta Deuteron gp*eatly appreciates all
of the financial support that Phi-Gam graduates have
given us. Brothers, over the past twenty years we have
made incredible progress, and we hope to continue
this momentum in the upcoming academic year.
Please make plans to visit the house soon; we look
forward to seeing you back at Hampden-Sydney!

received this award at the 19th Fiji Academy. We
would also like to send our congratulations to
Benjamin Robinson '86, who has been promoted by the
National Fraternity office from the position of Field
Secretary to the position of Director of Programs for
Nationals. Wedding bells were ringing this past
semester for Brother Edward Lyons '87, and will be
ringing this July for Brain Keyser '87, who will be

\r\nGovernment, and this year has been no exception. As
1987-88 student government president Hugo
Rodriqi^ '88 left his position in favor of graduation,
two Phi-Gams were elected to student government
positions for the '88-'89 academic year. Paul Pisano,
who has served on the College's Honor Court for(3^
years, was elected as Chairman of the Honor Court for
the upcoming year. Also, Steven Riddle '89 was
elected by the student body to serve as the Chairman of
the College Activities Committee for the upcoming
year.
I would like to close this edition of the Editor's Note
by expressing the fraternity's gratitude for all of the
help and guidance that our graduates have gifted us
with; without you all, we would not have been able to
accomplish all that we have. We want to improve our
graduate events that we hold during this year's
Homecoming weekend in the Fall, and the Norris
Pig Dinner in the Spring. We are also planning to
put together a Delta Deuteron Alumni Directory in the
fall, and we need for all of you graduate brothers to
drop us a line to update your current addresses and
tell us what you have been up to! We hope to have this
directory completed by Winter '88, and we need your
help. Please keep in mind that we are not soliciting
funds, rather, we are soliciting your help in making
the ties between the house and our graduates stronger
than ever. We look forward to seeing you down at the
house next year and in many years to come!!

NOV. 9: The first meeting of Kappa Gamma
fraternity was held in the basement of Dean Ortner's
house. It was attended by thirteen people. Those
present were voted on, and the following twelve were
elected to membership and signed a pledge promising
their support of the fraternity: JIM LOCKE; TERRY
HALL; TURNER TRICE; DON FRIES; ROY
ROBINSON; JERRY TALBOT; BUCKY MEYERS;
RICK CHILDS; MIKE WEDDLE; MIKE PETRIE;
JIM RHODES; ART COSTAN.
A committee consisting of five members was
appointed to work on a constitution for the fraternity
and suggestions were received for the name of the
fraternity, and for a faculty advisor. In a short
meeting on November 10 in Graham 102, five possible
names for the fraternity were voted on, and "Kappa
Gamma," meaning "Fellowship" and "Knowledge"
received 2/3 of the votes, thus becoming the name of
our local fraternity.
