Annual Pig Dinner To Be Held May 22
With the emergence of April showers and May flowers so comes
another annual Norris Pig Dinner. As all young and old Phi Gams
alike know, the Pig Dinner has been a tradition with Phi Gamma
Delta since it was first introduced in the depths of the Fiji House
at Berekely, Calif. This year then will be no exception; the Fiji Pig
will remain in Portland and lure all devoted Fiji hearts as it has
every year in the past.
The date is Saturday, May 22nd; the banquet will be held at
3:30 p. m. in Portland's Areo Club, 804 S. W. Taylor Street. Preceeding the dinner there will be cocktails served from 2:00 until 3:15 p.m.
We are very privileged to have Archon Councilor, Harry Templeton as our main speaker. We are grateful to Brother Templeton
for taking time from his busy schedule in Los Angeles to speak and
hope you will join us for a very enjoyable Fiji afternoon. Also ex
pected to attend will be Don Johnson, Chief of our new section,
Scram Graham, Purple Legionnaire, and Earl Price, all prominent
local alums.
So that we may know how many graduates will be attending,
we are asking you to mark the enclosed post card accordingly; your
quick response to this would be greatly appreciated.
Recent Happenings —
Fall term was an outstanding term for the Fiji's this year.
Homecoming, a great success, saw the future Rose Bowl team in ac
tion and the fine performances turned in by two first string Fiji
lineman, guard A1 Funston and tackle Bill Stellmacher. A1 Funston
was one of Oregon State's Best linemen and turned in many Spark
ling performances, while Bill Stellmacher fooled all in the Homecom
ing stadium by racing for a touchdown on a tackle eligible play.
The tremendous pledge class of 31 fine men can not go without
mention. They represented Phi Gamma Delta well both in sports
and social activities. Besides placing men in football and wrestling,
the rooks went on to several committee chairmanships, rook bon
fire, rook picnic, and class elections, etc. Besides giving the Fiji
house a great physical boost they have also had a tremendous ef
fect on house spirit and it looks like more to come with the op
portunity of even a greater freshman class next year.
Also of significance this year was the presentation to the house
of a large palm tree brought to us by Brother R. O. Rowell of Sacremento, Calif. The tree has had to struggle through the cold win
ter and we are still keeping our fingers crossed for its survival.

Rush Report —
Rushing must go on all year round even though it is concen
trated most heavily during the formal rush period at the beginning
of fall term. This year is no exception since our intensive informal
rushing program has resulted in the pledging of ten men in ad
dition to the twenty-five freshman pledges already living in the
house. We seem to have maintained more interest and cooperation
concerning rush this year than we have for quite some time in the
past.
Recently our annual Harold's Club Casino function was held at
the chapter House for High School rushees and was considered a
great success by everyone. The highlight of the whole affair was
the appearance of four lovely Pi Phi cigarette girls showing off the
traditional attire. It created a lasting impression to say the least.
Rush is principally concerned now with signing Seniors for for
mal rush next fall. Approximately thirty men have signed resi
dence cards and the number should top forty before we can be at
all satisfied. We would sincerely appreciate your recommendations
concerning men in your area; please write the Chapter House or
Bob Bomengen, 12503 N.E. Morris, Portland, Oregon, if you should
have someone in mind. Your help is always welcomed. Thank you
brothers —
PERGE!

Financially Speaking —
The chapter was in fine financial position at the end of spring
term, 1964. There were enough funds in the treasury to carry us
through the summer months with the balance in the black at the
beginning of fall term.
With formal rush being a great success, the Chapter House was
filled to capacity. Due to a number of different problems arising
during the term, a number living in were forced to move out or
leave school. This of course had its effect on the financial status of
the chapter. Consequently, the revenues ran behind the expenses fall
term. To compensate for this problem, housebills were increased
slightly Winter term. So as things look now, I think we should be
back in the black soon and have considerable financial footing.
One last comment I would like to make is about the physical
structures of the chapter house. The upper two decks are deteriating
rather fast because of age; they need a remodeling job at the pres
ent time. As usual the only problem is money. Several plans have
been presented to raise this money, but nothing definite has been
layed down as of yet. Therefore, it is to you, the alums, that we
turn for suggestions on programs to start raising funds for house
improvement. Take a minute and drop a line, each and every one
of you. Any suggestions, contributions or ideas would be appreciat
ed. Please send them directly to me. Thank you.

K.O. REPRESEWTED AT THE EKKLESIA
Kappa Omicron Chapter sent three men, Colin Walker, Ron
Enna, and Steve Vrtiska back to the 116th Ekklesia, held in French-
lick, Indiana on September 5th and 6th, 1964. The delegates left
the convention with a better understanding of the internal workings
of Phi Gamma Delta.
A very interesting thing happened to the delegates as they were
driving through Indiana. It was the week before Labor Day Weekend
and a certain Indiana radio station was sponsoring a highway safe
ty program. They invited any travelers to stop by the radio station
and tell them where they were traveling from. The person from the
furtherest point would win a prize. To make a long story short, the
delegates just happened to be driving past the radio station the
first time they made this announcement over the air. Needless to
say, they were astounded when three boys walked in and told them
they were from Corvallis, Oregon! The result—a $20 transistor radio.
So goes the luck of the Fijis.
It's The Alum's Turn —
And now for a little news on a few of the Alums. It's sad to
say that a few loo many of our recent brothers have "bit the dust",
or plan to soon. That's right, about 80% of our '64 group alone have
hung up their hats, put on aprons, and shaved for breakfast in
hopes that marriage life will have a lot more to offer. Seemingly,
the others have been kept out of matrimony so far only because the
Army or the Peace Corp got them first. Let's look into their happy
little lives:
Bob Wilhelm, '64—Industrious-minded "Oggie" recently married
Sharon Bauer, OSU Pi Phi. and is now residing in San Francisco.
By the time he gets back from his two month jaunt at sea with the
Navy, you better believe he likes married life.
Hurt Loughmiller,'64—New Year's Eve must have been big this
year for Burt because he married Kay Bailey, OSU Pi Phi, two days
later. He is now in the Graduate School of Business at the Univer
sity of Oregon.
John Geiger, '64—John, the "Executive Man", finally married
his life-long sweetheart. Patty Petty, OSU Alpha Phi, January 16
of this year. He is now working for Equitable Savings and Loan
in Yakima.
Larry Clark, '64—Good old "Rabbit" put a ring on John's sister,
Carol Geiger, OSU Alpha Phi, and plans to wed July 17 in The
Dalles. Presently, after serving his hitch in the Army, he's staying
even with John, and working for Equitable Savings and Loan in
Portland.
Gil Schmidt,'64—"Flyboy" now has his pretty wings and is sta
tioned in Texas. He can be found quite often dragging on the air
strips in his new GTO. The word is out he also plans to look into
family life this summer.
Jerry Heil,'64—You can't forget "Worm", our covil-minded lover
boy. The Peace Corp salted him, and now he's enjoying an enchant
ing life in Turkey with a beauty mark on his nose.

Rich Albright '64—Studious "Obsie" will never be forgotten.
His words will stay on forever. But, where is he? Rich was last seen
headed for L.A. looking for a job.
Tom Bosgen, '64—And then there's "Fly", but we haven't lost
him yet. He's back here still on a loan and carrying 21 hours a
term trying to graduate.
Oscar Tuerck, '64—"Slug" graduated Winter Term and is now
pursuing bigger and better things in the Graduate School of Busi
ness at the University of Washington.
John Poorman,'63—You'll never believe it. "White-spot" is still
giving college the good old try. He's back here again, in as good
a sleeping shape as ever, for his 6th year.
Geno Estrada,'64—I almost forgot Geno, and that's pretty hard
since I see him every night down at Pizza Joes serving beer. And
guess what, he's letting his hair grow back to his high school style.
He says, "I could really give a *??!?*!!?
Bruce Bailey,'62—"Mode-bode" is also back in school after play
ing basketball for the Army team for two easy years.
Larry Kruger, '63—Who knows?
Mike Vidos,'62—"PooPoo's hacks have left a lasting impression
on my behind. I hear he's giving them just as bad a time in the
Marines as an officer at Quantico, Virginia. He married Sue Hubbard.
Tom Braden, '62—"Oink-oink, where's the 'pig'?" In the Army
where he belongs.
John Zurcher, '62—Quiet-spoken Zurch conned an airline stew
ardess into marrying him, and is now enjoying a happy life in
sunny California.
Steve DeMaria,'62—Had twins!
So much for now. I hope to catch the rest of you, including you
old gents next time around. Let me know what you're up to.
