NORRIS PIG DINNER SET
FOR OCTOBER 8th
As every Fiji brother knows the coming of
Fall term brings football season, Homecoming
Weekend and Gamma Phi's annual Norris Pig Din
ner. This year's Homecoming celebration is set for
October 8th which is the weekend of the Utah
State game. We here at Gamma Phi chapter of
Phi Gamma Delta have already begun preparing
for this gala occasion. Reservations for the Pig
Dinner have been made at the Nittany Lion Inn.
provided. This will give acquaintenances. Dinner
is scheduled to be served at "7:00 P.M. so about 6:30
P.M. we will begin walking up to the Nittany Lion
Inn. While the men are tending to their business,
the wives and dates will be treated to a turkey
dinner prepared by our own cook and entertained
by a folk singer.
We realize that it is becoming increasingly
difficult to acquire football tickets but we strong
ly urge as many alumni as possible to attend this
traditional function. If you plan to attend and do
have not made hotel or motel accomodations as of
noted for its fine service and quality food. In addi
tion, it is just a short walk from the chapter house
yet, please do so as soon as possible.
Reservations for the Pig Dinner can be made
by filling out the reservation blank enclosed in
this issue and returning it with a check or money
which eliminates the need for any unnecessary
order made payable to Phi Gamma Delta.
This historic emblem of Penn State tradition is
driving on this crowded weekend. "The menu will
include: french onion soup, baked stuffed pork
chops with gravy, tossed green salad with your
choice of dressings, our own University made ice
cream, and your choice of beverage. "The cost of
the meal will be $8.40 which includes all taxes and
gratuities.
In order to avoid any theft or loss of mail dur
ing the summer months, please send all responses

MOTHER'S DAY
With a tremendous showing of parents, Penn

willing, mixers were available for any post game
celebration. Saturday night's party featured mix

telling. Coffee and donuts were offered on Sunday
morning till noon. After all the parents were pres

same time, the elderly gents were ushered into the
club room for the viewing of the 1976 edition of
Nittany Lion football highlights. Following the
film and meeting, breakfast was served. The menu
consisted of delicious bacon, hash browns, scrambl

After breakfast, the parents, wandered wher

to be impressed with the condition of the house
and the manner in which the entire weekend was
conducted.

As you can tell, the mutual work of all broth

FIELD SECRETARY VISITS
Gamma Phi was recently visited by Field
Secretary Bill Martin. Willy graduated from Mis
sissippi State in the spring of 1976 in the field of
Marketing. Willy spent three days discussing the
affairs of the house with the Officers.
He
also
spent a great deal of time talking with the pledges
and younger brothers. Since his last visit in the
fall of 1976, Willy thought the house has shown
great improvement in many areas, especially con
cerning house involvement in the Interfraternity
Council, with one brother the
Executive
President and several brothers on
Vice-
committees.
In his opinon, the house has built a strong nuc
leus for the future with a pledge class containing
eight majors in the engineering or pre-medicine
fields. However, he did say that the house lacked

FIJI ACADEMY-EKKLESIA PLANS
The 128th Bicentennial Ekklesia has generat
ed an increased interest in the upcoming Fiji
Acadmy and Ekklesia. Last August undergradu
ate brothers Greg Hanks. Jack Keegan, and Kick
Etling attended the Ekklesia in Washington, D. C.
Since then, their reflections of the event have
prompted a number of new brothers to vie for our
chapter's representation.
This summer's Fiji Academy will be held at
Ohio State university on August 14-18, 1977. The
Academy features leadership sessions on chapter
administration, finances, rush, pledge education,
Pig dinners, graduate relations and public rela
tions. Delegates have the opportunity to meet oth
er Fiji's and learn more about our entire fratern
ity system. It accomplishes these and a lot more
in a relaxed atmosphere which is truely enjoyable.
Although the 130th Ekklesia is over a year
away, several brothers are already making plans
to attend as non-delegates for a post-graduation
then stop back at the House for the B.Y.O. Cock
tail Party. It may not have been the nicest way
to treat family, friends, and especially you Alum
ni, but it was practical and economical.
This Fall, however, we hope to start a new
tradition. Through the combined efforts of our
Caterer, Social Chairman, and the Undergraduate
Brothers, a Post Game Buffet has been planned.
The date of this event is set for Saturday, Septem
ber 17, 1977, the weekend of the Home Opener
against Houston.
The Cocktail Party will still be continued
from 4-6 P.M. at the conclusion of such the buffet
will be served and continuing until 7:30 P.M. The
menu for the first game will consist of the follow
ing:
Beef Stroganoff
Virginia Style Glazed Ham

vacation. Both commented on the Ekklesia as very
inspiring, beneficial and a lot of fun.
Wouldn't it be nice to reunite some Gamma
Phi's at a beautiful summer resort area? The 130th
Ekklesia is the answer.
Coffee and Tea
There is a catch, however, in order to prop
erly prepare for such a Buffet, we need a definite
response from those of you planning to attend. To
purchase the proper amount of food, we must
know on or before the 10th, at least one week in
IT'S ABOUT TIME
This fall is the beginning of another Penn
State Football Season. In past years, the tradition
has been to plan a tailgate party, enjoy the game
advance. Send your responses to the Lodge in care
of Ernie Keller, Bruce Schaffer or Bob Gardner.
In addition, please include the number of guests
arriving with you such as wives, children, and par
ents.

Skeptical? You have every right to be. But,
then again, so was the Mother's Day crowd when
they arrived. Ask them now how skeptical they
are about future Mother's Days since the passing
of this last one. You may be surprised by their en
thusiasm.
Too often the Alumni tend to be forgotten.
Well, this is our way of showing you we haven't.
Come to our "Alumni Buffet," we are doing it in
your honor. If you can take the time to make this
one a success, then the "Alumni Buffet" may be
come the tradition of the future for all home foot
ball weekends. Respectfully yours
the Owls with one run victories in the playoffs.
As of five games, the team batting avg. is a
healthy .491. Six starters are hitting .500 or over.
Dan Leri sets the pace with a blistering .667, fol
lowed by Glenn Merritt (.550), Randy Brown (.556).
Bob Gardner (.550), Dave Blumhardt (.545), and
George Reihner (.500). Bob Gardner is the pitcher,
giving up just 21 runs in his five victories. The
Owls have pushed across 73 runs in the meantime.
The sluggers are Dan Leri with 15 RBI and George
Reiihner with 3 homeruns. Glenn Merritt has scor
ed 12 runs to lead the team in that category.
In tennis doubles, Bucco Stewart and Doug
Pysher have just one match to go before winning
the championship. They have been extremely im
pressive in their victories, winning all matches
in straight sets. They are by far the team to beat

SPRING INTRAMURALS
At the end of winter term the Fiji Owls were
in 5th place (out of 50) in the Fraternity Intra
mural Standings. The leader at that time was
Sigma Pi, 195 points ahead of us. Although our
chances of an overall championship are slim, we
should be able to move up in the standings on the
strength of good showings in softball, track, and
tennis doubles, according to Intramural Chairman
Randy Brown.
In Softball, the Owls are undefeated after 5
games. Coach Juan Passaao feels the team should
enter the playoffs with a perfect 7-0 record. In the
Track hasn't started as of this printing, but we
should give our usual strong showing. Jim Cefalo
is our top 100 yard dash man. The relay team of
Jeff Myers, Guy Montacalvo, Gary Alex, and Cef
alo will probably be one of the fastest teams on
the track. Guy Montecalvo and Scott Hettinger
will give us good speed in the 440. Paul Suhey,
Tony Gordon and George Reihner are all very
good shot putters and one of them will throw for
the house.
The socccer team allowed only one goal in
four games, but ended up with a 3-1 record. Our
only loss was due to a rule stating that tie games
playoffs, the team will meet the "Pink Elephant"

I always enjoy reading the Nittany Fiji and

We appreciate the tribute and agree that it
