THE NEWS LETTER OF EPSILON LAMBDA
Vol. 3, Num. 2
Michigan State University, 239 Oakhill
239 SPORTS
EDITORIAL
Openers for this editorial in
clude a big thanks to all those
graduates who attended the Purple
Garter Party
Oct. 25th.
About
30
grad couples rubbed elbows with an
equal
number
of undergraduate,
Sc pledge couples. Needless to say,a
fantastic time was enjoyed by all.
It was great to see and talk to all
of you again. We're counting on
seeing you at Champagne Party next
term. We'd
like nothing better
than being outnumbered by grads at
the Champagne Party.
We are also happy to report that
all 14 of our pledges are still
with us. 239 is comming back to the
top, where we belong.
In
closing, I
have personal
thoughts to share with you. In my
limited experiences. Phi Gamma Del
ta is one of the best things that
could have ever happened to me. I
love the house, the activities, and
above all, my brothers. Phi Gamma
Delta is a real part of me. I want
only the best for my Fraternity.
We can make FIJI the best again
only if all of us work. Your crit
icisms and suggestions are vital to
us. Whether your suggestions are a
critique of SPIRIT or an idea to
improve the house, let us know. We
have received some input this term,
but we aren't
satisfied.

Phi Gamma Delta is not for
Delta.
Epsilon Lambda closed out the
football season on a losing note as
the Sigma Chi's defeated the FIJI
gridders 14-6 in a hard fought semi
final game.
The game was played under arctic
conditions, and the loss was very
heartbreaking
as both Sigma Chi
toushdowns were
scored
after
the
ball was deflected off of the froz
en hands of a FIJI defender.
We were quite proud of this
year's team however, for they play
ed superbly all season, and provid
ed much entertainment and suspense
for their fans. In probably the
most exciting game
in years, the
FIJI'S narrowly defeated a
tena
cious AKPsi in the
final
seconds
to advance to the semi-finals. With
the game tied 13-13, and AKPsi on
the FIJI 10 yard line with 30 sec
onds left, Eric Deal stepped in
front of an errant pass to give the
"Wisemen" one last chance to pull
out a victory. Gary Malak lined
the team up on it's own 4 yard line
and called for the "bomb". He pit
ched out to Bill Adaline, who toss
ed a 56 yard pass complete to
Mike
Bownick. The miraculous play
the team a 19-13 victory.

Fourteen,
FIJI PROFILE
This raonth''s FIJI PROFILE is
on
a past president, Rich lAvely '73.
Rich was bom out
of
state
in
Evansville, Indiana, a city of 175,
000 along the Ohio River. He lived
there until he was sixteen but then
"unfortunately" the family moved to
Roseville, Michigan. Even though
Rich
never
liked
Roseville
that
much, things seem to have worked
out for him because at graduation
from high school he left behind
good friends, good times and many
fond memories.
While in school. Rich's interest
lay in women, football, and academ
ics, definitely in that order! He
claims good success with the second
2 items, but that first one gave
constant problems -- even though it
was the most fun.
Fourteen!!
That
was
the key number at Epsilon Lambda
this term. Why? Because thats how
many men decided to pledge Phi Gamm
this fall.
Since that time
they
have
in
stilled more spirits in the chapter
than a truckload of kegs.
Participation
and unity have
been their theme, showing itself in
everything they do (except an occational work session). All either
played or spectated at the FIJI
Fraternity football games. All but
one participated in the successful
pledge raid going to Indiana, and
needless to say all came in force
to every party. Having the largest
pledge class on
campus
has turned
everybody's eye towards Phi
Gamma
Delta (even a few Theta's) and that
makes us very proud to be FlJl's!
COED PIG DINNER
In 1969 Rich came to MSU and not
finding the dorms to be all he had
hoped for, rushed and pledged FIJI
that fall term due to the
efforts
of Mark McCutchan. Rich says the
best years of his life were
spent
at 239 Oakhill and he still retains
many of his best friends.
While at Phi Gamm, Rich was
ac
tively pursued by Debbie Mills, a
Sigma Kappa who showed up during
Winter term of '71. She never gave
up,sta3^ing around through two years
and Rich's stint as chapter presi
dent. The hunt finally ended as
Rich consented to marry her and
they were hitched in June '73 just
after his graduation.
Now Rich and his Criminal
Just
ice degree are hard at work trying
to keep down the crime rate in Saginaw, where he is a policeman. Rich
is also an instructor in the Social
Science department at Delta College
teaching a police patrol procedure
course to Law Enforcement majors
and also an introductory course in
Law Enforcement.
Rich has now applied for Grad
school in C.J. at MSU and we hope
to see his face around campus again
soon.
This year brothers, we are plan
ning an all new format in our Pig
Dinner Ceremony -- the attendance
of wives/dates.
This is
the
new
est trend around all the chapters
and we here at Epsilon Lambda have
decided to give it a try.
We
greatly
encourage
you
to
bring your wife/date along with you
to this years Norris Pig Dinner
be held on
to
Saturday, Feb. 28,1976.
It will be at Alex's, 321 E. Mich.,
downtown
Lansing. We
are very
proud to have as our guest speaker
Brother William Zerman(Michigan '49)
Executive Secretary and Editor of
the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta.
This year brothers our goal is
to have at least 50 graduate bro
thers attend which would
be a
rec
ord for our Pig Dinner. Mr. Zerman
has not been to our chapter since
our instillation in '59 and we
are
preparing to show him that the
spirit upon which we were founded
has still not deminished.
So, brothers,lets make a sincere
effort to send out that
invitation
form back to the chapter today.
Thank you, brothers.
