GAMMA TAU CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA
Pig
Dinner
1977
As February 26 draws closer, so does tlie 51st
gathering of the brothers of Phi Gamma Delta.
Tlie occasion: The Frank Norris Pig Dinner,
of course!
This 51st gathering promises to be the most
royal and festive of all. Joining us on this
special occasion will be Brother Dave Slater, our
present Section Qiief. Also, many Qiapter Ad
visors and House Corporation members from
other surrounding chapters will be present.
For the reasons mentioned above, coupled with
Gamma Tau reigning as the recipient of the
Qieney Cup, we are looking for an exceptionally
large graduate turnout. The Cheney Cup is
awarded to the most outstanding Chapter in
our fraternity, and it is largely through the work
of the graduates that Gamma Tau has achieved
this height of recognition. So the Cheney Cup
is as much a recognition of their achievement
as it is ours.
The schedule of events is: Cocktails at Creighton-Vail Hall at 5:30 with dinner starting at
7:30. Dinner will be held at the Fairmont,
Colony Square Hotel. This year graduates will
be asked to pay the $10 cost of the dinner.

The Cheney Cup is awarded ahnually to the chap
ter judged to be "the most efficient in the con
duct of its affairs as evidenced by scholarship,
campus activities and fraternity relationships."
It is the highest distinction which a Fiji chap
ter can receive.
Gamma Tau President Jeffrey C. Korth said
that he felt that "being the number one frater
nity at Georgia Tech for the past three years
A
played a large role in our selection for the
Cheney Oip." Gamma Tau has won the Tech
Interfraternity Council trophy for three con
secutive years. Tliis award is based on scholar
ship, athletics and campus activities. Brother
Korth also stated that 'hve have tried to keep
up with all the requests and suggestions made
by National."
In addition to the Cheney Cup Gamma Tau
also was awarded an honorable mention in the
Owen Cup competition for greatest improve
ment in scholarship and received a certificate of
recognition for having a scholastic average above
tlie all-men's average at Georgia Tech for eight
consecutive years.

the chapter's enthusiasm this year with rush
functions, social service projects, campus athle

It displayed to Gamma Tau the achievements

With all things considered, I believe Gamma Tau
is a strong and sound chapter that can be proud
of its accomplishments. We hope to continue
this trend for the coming years and stay number
one at Georgia Tech.
On behalf of the entire chapter, I extend a
hardy invitation to all of^you to come to our
51st Norris Pig Dinner. We believe it will be one
of the best ever and are anticipating a large
graduate turnout. We look forward to seeing
you on February 26.

Realizing that not many graduate brothers are

The chapter appreciates the time and effort put

Brother Brasfield, residing in Natchez, Mississip

in Electrical Engineering and was employed by
Alabama Power Company in July, 1924. He par
ticipated in the design, construction and opera
tion of the company's electrical system during
its development and retired as the Vice Presi
dent of Employee Relations.
Brother Brasfield was the first of three genera
tions of Fiji's to come out of his family. Those
Fiji's surviving him are his brother Joseph D.
Brasfield of Birmingham, his nephew Oiarles
Theodore Brasfield H, and his grandson Robert
L. Bledsoe, Jr., the current Historian of Gamma
Tau.
It was the memories of Charles Theodore
Brasfield and Joseph D. Brasfield that prompted
and made possible the article on the early his
tory of Gamma Tau in the Winter of 1976. We
deeply regret the loss of a brother so important
to our chapter's foundation.
The Gamma Tauk would like to continue, if
possible, printing memories from our graduates
in each issue. We are searching for reflections
of history, newsworthy happenings or notable
characters out of the past years of Gamma Tau.
Anyone with memories worth sharing, please
contact the editor. Thank you.
