\r\nFROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK......
The State of the Chapter Address:
The Chapter has reestablished sts stave towards
excellence. Recruimment, athleucs, campus involvement,
and academucs are four areas of Greek life m which we
have reasserted ourselves as leaders on campus.
Now that this chapter has nsen to the top of the
Greek system, 1t must connnue to take steps that will
ensure it mantans that status. The decision to make
the chapter house and property an Alcohol-Free facility
was one of those steps. On July 1, 1998, Theta Tau will
implemen: an carly adoption or the Intemanonal
Headquarters Alcohol-Free Housing Ininanve.
There are many benents to this decision. One, the
schoiasne atmosphere m the} will be greadly
improved. Two. recrutment efforts will be even more
rewarding. because men should not pledge a fratermiy
the fratemuty. Three, the undergraduate chapter’
t are now greatly reduced.

Also, by beng one of the first 20 chapters to agree to
be alcohol free by July 1, 1998, we are now eligible to
receve $20,000 in grant incennves trom the
Intemanonal Fraternity to perform housing
improvements and purchase educanonal supphes for the
chapter house. But perhaps the most impactng benefit
of this decision 1s the leadership that this decision shows
not only to the other fratemmites on this campus, but
also to the Intemauonal Fratemuty.
What type of support and assistance does the chapter
need at this umer We need organizanonal, planning and
support toward the long term goals of the fraternity.
‘The foremost of these are the payment of the current
house mortgage and acquinng the property adiacent to
the house.
How do Graduate Brothers ft inte today’s overall
picture of the frateminy’ of all, we recognize the
fact that that if ithad not been for these who iead the
charge vear after vear before us, we wouid not havea
chapter to entoy today. [fit had not cen for vou men
who Aanded down the rradinons of Phi Gamma Di
year after vear, Theta Tau would not be here today.
However, graduanon docs not mean that acnve
mterest in the undergraduate chapter has to end. The
‘ort has begun to organize a Graduate Associanon for
this chapter. It wall serve to get graduates involved with
each other on a social level and it would provide an
avenue to allow graduate brothers to become involved
in the business aims of the frateminy. ‘This chapter has
nstn to a promment level of success, but it will need its
auntan that

\r\nFraternity of the Year 1997!!!
The Brothers here at Theta Tau
have worked hard over the past year in an
effort to better themselves and our
Fratemity. As March 1998 approached,
there was much anticipation among the
brothers here at Theta Tau as to whether
all that effort would pay off with one last
reward. We knew what we had
accomplished; the trophies and new men
in our chapter spoke for themselves. But
we wanted everyone else to know who had
the best Fratemity at Tennessee Tech in
1997
Here is how the evening at the
Awards Banquet shaped up. For
competing well in so many campus
activities, including a Homecoming
victory, Phi Gamma Delta won the
Campus Life Award for 1997
Additionally, by being the ony active
Fratemity to remain above the All-Men’s
and All-Fratemity averages in 1997, we
were recognized with the Scholarship
Award for ‘97. However, the most
important announcement that evening,
was that Phi Gamma Delta is the 1997
TTU Fraternity of the Year once again
after a long 10 years! Damn Proud to be
Phi Gam!

On October 3, 1998 Tennessee Tech will
meet its old rival MTSU on the football field for
the last time. What promises to be a huge event
for TTU will also be a weekend to remember for
Phi Gamma Delta as well
With the help of the Kappa Deltas, we
will be seeking a second consecutive Homecoming
victory. Additionally, the Kazoo Band will be
looking to be on top of the Open Float competition
once again. At the very least, they will be in front
of every camera that appears on the parade route
And we will get Mr. Marable this year!!
As part of this huge weekend, the
undergraduates would like to invite all of our
graduate brothers to come back and enjoy
Homecoming with us once again. As always we
will be working on the float right up to the last and
we hope you will all feel free to come out and
share some memories with us. This year we are
also looking to make the largest Kazoo Band ever
by getting as many grads and undergrads together
as possible! As if that were not enough, we will
be having a cookout at the house after the game
to celebrate what will no doubt be an outstanding
performance. Of course the weekend would not be
complete without a party with the sisters of Kappa
Delta that evening.
So make plans now to relive some of those
old memories and make some new ones! We haye
provided the local hotel information on the back
cover to assist you in making plans. Please plan
early as the: University is making plans for very
large Alumni events

\r\nPig Dinner 1998
Friday, April 17th
6:00 p.m.
Friday night saw the arrival of
most of our attending graduate
brothers. Upon arrival they were
greeted by an enthusiastic group of
undergrads as well as by members of
the Pig Dinner committee. There was
an information and check-in desk
complete with publications and billing
information to get our graduates up to
speed on what was happening
All together 30 graduates and
nearly all of the undergrads were there
to help cook the pig over the course of
the night. It was rumored that bribes
were being accepted to change the golf
teams, but since the distributors of this
publication were in charge of Pig
Dinner- we aren't saying a word! The
Pig Dinner committee was also
questioned about displaying the 1988-
89 composite. This was done at the
request of Ross Jones who also made
a significant donation to the chapter at
Pig Dinner. Could that be just a
coincidence? Thanks Ross.
Saturday, April 18th
8:00 a.m
The Pig Dinner Golf Scramble
was about to begin. After much
bragging and premature claims on the
trophies the night before, the golfers
were not about to let a little drizzling
rain keep them from trying out the
Country Club’s course. Of the forty
brothers who teed off at 8:30, 23 were
graduate brothers. As it tumed out,
three teams tied at 4 under and were
forced into putt-off during the dinner
to decide the winner!
12:00 p.m.
By this time in the day the rain
was here to stay and made it obvious
that any chance of playing volleyball
‘was very remote. Many of the grads
and undergrads went out to lunch.
Brad Dozier addressing the chapter at PD
And many more just tried to catch a
few Z's for the night that lay ahead.
5:00 p.m
The Theta Tau Graduate
Association held its second meeting at
the Country Club to follow up on
earlier discussions of how to plan for
the future of the chapter. Among the
options they are pursuing is a direct
deposit fund which transfers funds on
a monthly basis from brothers
accounts to an account set up
specifically for the future of the
chapter house; At last count, 25
undergraduates were already
contributing to this fund in addition to
their normal chapter dues. Many more
graduates have also committed to this
plan as well, Further information can
be obtained by contacting Brad Dozier
at 615-331-8421

thought out prayer for which we are
very grateful. He knows he wants to

Yet another young brother got to
kiss the pig on the rump!
“An Exile’s Toast”
Brian Douglas 98
Chapter President 1997
The traditional Exile’s Toast as
written by Frank Norris was given in
a hardy German accent. It is
reported that just before the final
toast there was a pause while two
very large I-liter beer mugs (mit
beer) from Deutschland were
produced by Brian for himself and
the Chapter President. They were
also reported to be quite empty at the
end of the night!

which brought an International
