75th Anniversary
by Martin Hunter
Chapter Historian
The last gasp of Summer set the stage for what
was truly a remarkable evening. As Brother
after Brother assembled at 123 St. George St.
the atmosphere became electric. The old haunt
of Fijidom was opened for our inspection and
soon story after story was recounted about
school days, friendships and days gone by. The
anticipation ofthe rest ofthe evening mounted
as Lee Moss, Archon President and Keynote
Speaker, took time to introduce himself and mix
with those guests in attendance.
As the celebrations moved on to Hart House a
wonderful reception was waiting for us in the
"Quad." As Brothers checked in, mingled and
looked over memorabilia a wave of calm seemed
to settle over the haU. We made it! Our Chapter
was 75 years old. The founding Brothers of Phi
Sigma Tau had envisioned this success, but to

The Tau Kappa Chapter is rejoicing. Rejoicing?
But why? The last time you may have been in
contact with the Chapter, we might have been as
low as eight members with no pledges, in the rut
Langford and a truly awful rendition of our
of financial mismanagement, an empty house,
National Anthem,dinner was served. The
little or no contact with other fraternities and
evening was punctuated by a boundless spirit of
history and celebration, highlighted by the
bringing together ofso many brothers from
and International relations.
The evening wasjust beginning and after some
different eras in thejoy ofFraternal association.
But the evening was notjust about the past, but
setting the stage for the future.
With the announcement ofRenaissance 80,an
opportunity to preserve and enrich the future of
the Chapter was established. To raise $80,000 by
the 80th Anniversary ofTau Kappa,Renaissance
80 plans to allow specified tax deductible
donations to the Phi Gamma Delta Foundation of
Canada to be used by the Tau Kappa Building
Association for necessary Chapter House
renovations. An important program. Renaissance
80 will become that link from the past to the
future and help ensure continuation ofthat
tradition ofExcellence which is Tau Kappa at

decreasing attendance at the Norris Pig Dinners,
and you may have even been a contributing
factor. Rightly so. Well, turn the page to today,
and keep on reading. Today, we have twelve,
very active Brothers and SEVEN freshmen
pledges. This will bring our active roster to a
more than healthy nineteen brothers. The
finances have turned around and are on the way
towards a healthy, stable position. The chapter
house is at capacity. We have become the
premiere fratemity on campus.

How did this
happen? You may have been convinced that Tau

fall over the edge, well Brothers, allow me to
elaborate...
As previously mentioned, everyone who had the
opportunity to meet our Archon President Lee

Gamma Delta's brightest Star did not disappoint.
His open communication style, casual attitude
and great love for the fraternity and beliefin its
brotherhood was inspirational to all. His offthe

PURPLE LEGIONNAIRE'S REPORT
The health ofa Chapter depends on many things.
It depends on Brothers, working hard
collectively to achieve their common goals. It
depends on recruiting solid yoimg men with
good academics and positive track records in
extracurricular involvement, achievement and

This year being the 75*^ anniversary of the Tau

is much enthusiasm and interest being shown in
all areas ofthe fraternity.
Before the school year began there was a lot of

Brothers who have come before them. Indeed,
the 75th Anniversary of Tau Kappa has given

Hopefully by the end of the year we will have

and we have implanted some good study habits
into the new up and coming brothers of our
