1980 Pledge Class
The 1980 pledge class includes 25 young men at this
point and from what I have seen so for I think it could be
one of the most impressive pledge classes in a long
time. The pledges seem to be determined to do well in
college as well as in the fraternity so we are expecting a
fine grade point overage from this class. We expect to
pledge more men soon so the final count will probably
be around 30 pledges this year. The active chapter has
already seen the good response the pledges hove had
towards house improvement and social functions and we
are eager to watch them develope into fine Phi Gams.

An extended thanks goes out to Mrs. Jerry Solomon,
president of the Lincoln Mothers Club, who is stepping
down this year. Our warmest thanks go to her and the
Mothers Club for the generous work they have raised to
help keep this house looking great.
Mrs. Richard Brunmeier has graciously accepted to
take over Mrs. Solomons post and we're positive she will
do a great job.
Thank-you mothers
\r\nPRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Lamba Nu Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta has
been and still is experiencing a number of changes
that will help keep Lambda Nu strong. These
changes have been difficult to implement yet, with
continued support of both the undergraduate and
graduate brothers these goals will be achieved.
BROTHERS
WELCOME
We would like to invite you and your families
to the house on football Saturdays. A bar will be
set up downstairs in the diamond room. All dona
tions will go to buying new furniture for living
room.
This summer a new board of chapter advisors
was set up at the advise of the international head
quarters. The goals of the new B.C.A. are continuety within the chapter from year to year. The
president of the board is Pat Ash. A great amount

of thanks is due to Pot and the rest of the board.
A great amount of success has come to Lambda
Nu. Last spring a pole sit was held for the benefit
of the Nebraska Human Resources Research
Foundation. The poll sit consisted of 600 consecu

were able to raise $3,500 in contributions for the
benefit of the Foundation. Also, a successful five

Thinking up unique philanthropy projects to
raise money for charity can be a very difficult
process. Lost spring though, the brothers of Lambda
Nu put together an endeavor that was unparalled to
brothers. Paul Potadle was named to the scholastic
any other project of campus - The Fiji Pole Sit. This
mile run was held for the benefit of Cystic Fibrosis.
Along with great success with Philanthropies, a

project benefited the Nebraska Human Resources
Research Foundation.
A twenty-five foot telephone pole was erected
on the Phi Gam front lawn with a wooden chair
Improvements to the Chapter House has also
been important to the brothers. As a result of a
fund raising drive headed by Ken Robertson '51, the
Tekamoh area graduate brothers raised enough
money to point the living room. But the major im
provement has been the installation of new carpet
in the living room. The funds were made available
from the Mothers Club. But, we have only begun.
The living room still needs new furniture and we
need the help of the graduate brothers. Another
project which can hopefully be achieved this year is
in the installation of new windows in the old part of
the chapter house. But, again we need the help of
every graduate.
Continued success for Lambda Nu is possible.
mounted on top which was the brothers perch for
the duration of the fund raising event. Each mem
ber was required to sit on the choir for a total of
eight hours, the hours being divided up to suit his
schedule.
The brothers of Lambda Nu showed great en
durance by sitting atop the pole through snow,
sleet, rain, and even rotten eggs from April 7th to
May 2nd, twenty-four hours a day, for a total of six
hundred hours. The sum of pledges token for the
Foundation was forty-two hundred dollars.
The brothers demonstrated unity, pride, and
enthusiasm to accomplish this meaningful and char
itable project.
But, we need the help of everyone, both under

\r\nHOUSE
THE 1980
lAAPROVEAAENTS
EKKLESIA
Rejuvenation of the living room is the main
topic of conversation here at Lambda Nu. Through
donations of graduate brothers in the Burt County
area, painting in the living room was completed on
September 7th. The Mothers Club again came
through and new carpet was laid after the painting
was completed.
We have made an attempt to improve the out
side looks of the house.
Shrubs were planted in
the front yard after we seeded the entire yard.
We are looking forward to showing-off the
house to as many graduate brothers as possible.
We are hoping to see you on footbal l Saturdays.
The 132nd Ekklesia, held this August, was at
tended by brathers Curt McConnell ('83), Maynard
Krantz ('82) and chapter president Lou O'Konski
('81). The bi-annual meeting was held at the opryland hotel in Nashvi l le, Tennessee with one of the
highlights of the Ekklesia being a night at the grand
ole opry. Business covered included a model initi
ation ceremony; seminar on hazing; election of
Archon President, as well as other officers; commit
tee meetings, with brother O'Konski serving as
chairman of the trials and appeals committee; and
the granting of a charter ta a very ecstatic T.C.V.
colony.
INTRAAAURALS
The intramural program is off to a start with a
new approach this year. Our goal has been set at
ranking in the top five out of the twenty-six fraterni
ties on campus. To achieve this, we are trying to
place more emphasis on the individual events and
the number participating.
Fred Burkley again took the all-University title
for the high jump and is looking forward to a third
win this year.
Last year's "B" league slow pitch softboll team
is off to a good start this year, needing to win only
one more game to be in the "A" team playoffs.
They ore going for their second league champion
ship in a row. The "B" and "C" league teams are
also looking good and we're expecting excellent
results from them too.
Phi Gamma Delta is currently ranked 4th, which
is our best start since 1969. And with swimming,
flag football, basketball and track coming up,
things ore looking good throughout the rest of the
semester. With a strong team effort we will finish
in the top five.
SCHOLARSHIP
Second semester of '79-80 ended well with the
following 13 brothers winning a grade point over
age of 3.5 or better! Kim Bloir, Gory Brown, Rick
Brunmeier, Dove Frye, Dick Gorden, Bill Horley,
Brian Jensen, Martin Jensen, Curt McConnell, Scott
Nelson, Joel Tiede, Kevin Underwood, and Scott
Walker.
The scholarship committee's top priority this
year is to help the new pledges achieve the re
quired 2.3 grade point overage. To help the
pledges moke the necessary grades, the use of
tutors, study hours, and a weekly review of the
pledges grades will be practiced.
In order for actives and pledges to gain a bet
ter understanding of the job market. Graduate
brothers wil l be invited to speak about jobs avail
able in their profession.
The scholarship committee is pleased to have
the support of the corporate board with Ken Wolfe
working with the committee.

we receive from our graduate brothers. We would like

it may be printed in the next newsletter. In this way,
the graduate brothers may also be informed as well as
possibly turning up a "lost" brother from the house.

that all correspondence from the chapter house and from
