\r\nPresident's Message
Brothers,
AsI near the end of my term, I
keep wondering what the
future has in store for Pi Gamma.
We just won the Condon Cup for
the Most Improved Chapter in
1999. We are expecting more
recognition from our Year 2000
Brother (even if they are very
minimal). Teach us how to write
a good resume, or how to ace ajob
interview, or keep us up to date on
various job opportunities. Let us
know of potential Rushees who
will be coming to UBC. Give us
feedback on Pig Dinner or
Founder's Day so we can make

PIG Dinner was very well attended
this year. The chapter received over
$1100 for the Pig, an amount to beat
this year! Brother Glenn Harris
announced that all agreements with
the UBC are in place for the
development of a new chapter house
for Pi Gamma. Brothers Dave Mills
and Dave Mowat have graciously
agreed to head up our fund raising

Stu Evey, founder of ESPN, gave a
fantastic speech on how Phi Gamma

his successful life, the evening left us

Leadership
instill in our Brothers the skills
The ultimate purpose of
fraternities is a topic that
generates much discussion both in
and
outside
of
the
Greek
communities. On one hand, there
are individuals who believe that
Greek lettered organizations like
ours exist for one purpose and one
purpose only: furthering the social
network of its members. Others,
myself
included,
believe
fraternities have an opportunity to
enhance the lives of our members
by teaching valuable life skills:
responsibility,
commitment,
developing organizational skills,
understanding basic hfe skills
(cooking, cleaning etc.), and
teaching time management skills.
Thomas Riley Marshall, former
Vice President of the United States
(Wabash '73), once proclaimed
"The forces that have been greatest
in my life have been God and the
college Fraternity that molded
me". This powerful statement
implies that the fratemity, by being
more than just a center for social
activities, adds value to the lives of
its members.

hopes to provide the essential
tools, training and support needed.

Are we, as an organization,
currently doing everything we can
to develop our members into the
leaders of tomorrow? Certainly
not; but at least we are taking steps
towards that objective.^

we

had
an exceptional turnout for our
social service events. Over the
summer, we had a strong showing at
both the Labatt's 24 hour relay and
the Heineken cup, with nearly all
active brothers helping out for at least
one event. This past term, we held
two chapter events for the Santa Fox
food drive at 99.3 the Fox radio - one
on behalf of the 2000 pledge class and
one on behalfofthe active chapter.
Both were very successful, as the
coordinators at die Fox were amazed
at our combined contribution. In
