History

During the Awards Banquet at the 156"^ Ekklesia this year, the Kappa Deuteron table
was positioned right next to the stage...and for good reason. Chapter President James
Derrick made numerous trips to the podium throughout the evening to shake hands and
accept awards. In usual fashion, Kappa Deuteron won or came close to winning many ofthe
awards given out by the International Fraternity. In some categories, the Kappa Deuteron
brothers have had ongoing success, but other new milestones were set as well.
One ofthe awards, the Zerman Trophy, is returning to familiar surroundings, as it has
sat on the Kappa Deuteron mantle for seven out ofthe past eight years. The Zerman Trophy
is given to the chapter with the strongest record of campus involvement. Kappa Deuteron, as
always, was a clear favorite for this award. Phi Gam brothers head up many chapter
organizations, from SGA,IPG, Dance Marathon, Arch Society, and Dawgcamp,to more
unique groups such as the Paintball Club and the Flying Club.
Another award, the Brightman Trophy, will come to 3 Cloverhurst for the first time
ever. The Brightman Trophy is given to the chapter that best evidences that Phi Gamma
Delta is "Not For College Days Alone." Although graduate involvement has always been a
huge part of chapter life at Kappa Deuteron, this was the first time that the chapter has won
the Brightman Trophy. The work of undergraduates and graduates together made this award
possible, from simple chapter practices such as tailgating at the chapter house and help with
the pledge program to more grand projects such as the fundraising campaign for the new
residence hall.
Finally (and most importantly), the Cheney Cup found it's way back to Kappa
Deuteron, this time for the third year in a row, a nearly unprecedented feat. The Cheney Cup
has spent 11 out ofthe past 36 years on the Kappa Deuteron mantle. As most of us know,
the Cheney Cup is given to the best chapter ofPhi Gamma Delta in the nation (or the
universe, as we like to say). Our success in 2004 made hosting Ekklesia something to
remember.

Rush: Behind the Scenes
By: Marq Cobb '07
The 22 Members ofthe Mu Tetratons
I'm very proud to say that as rush for the fall semester has come to a close.
Kappa Deuteron is extremely confident in the 22 young men that will be pledging this
fall. Rush is one ofthe most important areas that dictates the future of Kappa Deuteron
at Georgia. Though rush comes to a head during the beginning ofthe school year, it is
a process that takes place year round. Rush 2004 kicked off before school ended,a s 60
brothers, rushees, and female guests went kayaking down the Broad River. As summer
rolled along, various rush events included a band party in June featuring Athens'
famous "Drivin-N-Cryin." The band party was followed by a wildly successful rafting
trip down the Ocoee River a couple of weeks later. A second band party, featuring
Luke Bryan, was a good time for all and had remarkable attendance for late summer.
Tbse summer events coupled with formal rush allowed Kappa Deuteron to select the
22 sharpest guys ofthis year's freshman class. The Mu Tetratons are already proving
themselves to be Phi Gam material in the areas of Academics, Athletics, and Activities.
I look forward to watching these men contribute to the legacy that is Kappa Deuteron.

\r\nGavel Report
By: James Derrick '05
This upcoming fall represents a semester of high expectations in Athens. The Bulldogs
are poised for another run at the SEC championship. The University once again finds itself on
the top 20 list of public universities, and Kappa Deuteron continues to experience success in
all of her endeavors. The Chapter was blessed with a very-strong end to the 2003-2004 school
year as we initiated all six of our spring pledges, concluded our most successful year
philanthropically, and finished with an impressive 3.35 cumulative GP4 in the spring, which
was good enough for third place among all ffatemitieSg^

This good fortune carried over to the fall as we ijegai^jthe semestei^n'a very high note.
