\r\nFrom the President’s Desk...
Hello Brothers,
We did it! Yet another first place
All-Sing trophy has been added to our
collection. Thank you to all who came
up for the weekend. Speaking of
winning, | hope you all enjoyed the
scholarship article in last quarter's
GOLDEN EAGLE Flu! about our rise
from the cellar to second place. The
scholarship committee and all the
Brothers continued to work diligently
winter quarter as well, placing first with
a 2.64 (second place was 2.54).
lam sure that you all know that our
chapter house is for sale as is the lot
immediately across the street towards
campus. TFI met on April 17 to discuss
a possible purchase, and the

cannot wait to donate the $10 million
that Ed McMahan is sending me! (It’s
lost in the mail somewhere | think!)
Purple Garter, on March 25 in Sweet-
water, helped to get spring quarter
started off with a bang. If any of you are
looking for a vacation spot just to get
away from it all, ! strongly recommend
the Sweetwater Ramada Inn!
Softball season is underway with Dr.
Carlson from the College of Business
serving as coach. We lost only three
starters from last year’s championship
team, so watch out for an encore.
The Service and Quality of Life
committees have teamed up to make
Tuesday evenings meaningful for Phi
Gams. These two committees alternate
ALL-SING
each week with Quality of Life focusing
on current issues, such as date, rape,
alcohol education, and sexually
transmitted diseases, while Service
promotes activities with Triad Youth
Home.
Fiji Island is slated for the weekend of
May 21 and from the planning being
done, I’m sure it will rival any fraternity
event for fun.
Well, take care, thanks for all the
support during the year, and please
know that you are always welcome at
the House. Have a great summer.
Fraternally,

TRADITION CONTINUES
This year Phi Gamma Delta
participated in their eighth All-Sing. We
paired with Zeta-Tau-Alpha and entered
the mixed group competition. The
mixed groups are now the largest
division of All-Sing.
The name of our program was
“Broadway Through the Seasons,”
since this year’s theme was
“Showtunes.” The songs that we sang
were Aquarius, My Funny Valentine,
Summertime, Yankee Doodle Dandy,
Try To Remember, and Need A Little
Christmas. Brother Chuck Minor and
pledge Ritchie Todd Dunn gave two
outstanding solos. Roger Boyers,
Ritchie Todd Dunn, Sharon Johnson,
and Sandra Collie sang an incredible
quartet.
With team work by the ZTAs and Fijis
and an excellently written show by
Lonnie Good, the Phi Gams again
dominated the competition and brought
home their eighth win in a row.
THIS IS THE THIRD AND FINAL ISSUE OF
THE GOLDEN EAGLE FiJl FOR 1987-88.
OUR NEXT ISSUE WILL BE PUBLISHED IN
SEPTEMBER, PRIOR TO FALL RUSH. YOU
WILL HOWEVER, RECEIVE AT LEAST ONE
GRAD GRAM THIS SUMMER TO KEEP YOU
UPDATED. ... WISHING YOU A FlJl
FANTASTIC SUMMER. PERGE!

\r\nPROJECT STARS--“A Quest for Excellence”
by Robert Lee Wray ’81
Purple Legionnaire
Nine years ago Phi Gamma Delta
began on the Tennessee Tech campus
as Delta Theta Chi local fraternity. In
those nine years 166 men have been
initiated into the Theta Tau Chapter.
And while much has changed, much
remains the same. But as with any
complex organization there comes a
time to evaluate the past and plan for
the future, regardless of how much has
been accomplished, for that is the only
way to truly grow, to really succeed, to
achieve excellence. And that time is
now for Theta Tau of Phi Gamma Delta.
Project STARS (STriving After the
‘Reward we Seek’) has been
implemented at Theta Tau to achieve
the following goals as stated in its
“Charge and Purpose”—
1 - To introduce and implement the
International Fraternity’s “A Quest
for Excellence”;
2 - To review the past 8.5 years by
both graduates and under-
graduates;
3 - To provide continuity through
graduate involvement;
4 - To build a proper foundation for
the Chapter;
5 - To provide revision of
programming in weak areas;
6 - To provide for long term and
short term development of the
Chapter through the adoption of
goals and action steps.

STARS - STriving After the
‘Reward we Seek.’
toto tttttcdokivtd:
Project STARS is Theta Tau
Chapter’s “Quest for Excellence.” You
read about the “Quest for Excellence”
recently in the last issue of THE PHI
GAMMA DELTA. That article gave you
an idea of what is happening in the
Fraternity on the International, as well
as, local levels.
No longer is Fraternity just about fun,
friends, and good times — although that
certainly continues. But today the
Fraternity is striving to meet head-on
the concerns and problems which are
confronting college men, including
career preparation, sexual and other
health issues, etiquette, time
management, alcohol and drugs, moral
values, and financial management. To
meet these and other needs of the
Fraternity man and his Chapter the
International Fraternity has begun on its
“Quest” — our “Quest.”

toto ttt tttkddtcst
At Theta Tau this “Quest” will be built
around Project STARS. The Project is
made up of four subcommittees —
Philosophy and Standards,
Administration and Laws, Programming
and Committees, and Housing and
Finance. Each undergraduate Brother
and each BCA member is assigned to
one of these subcommittees. But we
need your involvement, too. Your
knowledge and thoughts will help in the
work of the Project. Each subcommittee
has been given a list of Charges which
they are to accomplish within the next
12 months. To state it in the most
simple way — every facet of the
Chapter is being carefully reviewed,
from secrecy policies to committee
notebooks to annual scheduling under
the semester system. No aspect will
escape scrutiny. You can look at it as
starting a Fraternity chapter — except
this time with nine years of experience
on our side.
The entire Project will take about five
years. During the second phase all of
the changes adopted will be
implemented completely. The third
phase during 1990-91 will include the
continuation of the adopted programs
KKK KKK KKKK KK KKK
as well as the celebration of the 10th
anniversary of the chartering of Theta
Tau. As a matter of fact, put that on your
calendar now — the 10th Anniversary
Banquet/Pig Dinner will be held
sometime between February and April
of 1991.
The exact date is not known yet
because the University will then be
under the semester system with
classes ending the last of April. In the
fourth phase the subcommittees will
review their respective areas and
recommend any further changes or the
return to former programs. These will
then be implemented during the fifth
and final phase (92-93) with the result
being a better Theta Tau Chapter and
better Theta Tau Phi Gams. And at that
time we should be ready for some new
projects and focuses.
During the next few issues of the
GOLDEN EAGLE FIJI you will continue
to hear about STARS. When you read
something that triggers an idea in your
mind, jot it down and send it to me or
the Chapter President (we will be
serving as co-chairs of the Project).
And if you like to be on a subcommittee,
please call or write me for further
information. We really want to know
what you've learned about. Fraternity.

We are on a “Quest for Excellence.”
We are striving after the “reward we
seek.” You, me, and our 164 Theta Tau
Phi Gam Brothers. Do you remember
what is the “reward we seek”? If you
think carefully | think you will. Or maybe
just feel — feel what it means to be a
Phi Gam, and the answer will be right
there in your heart. It is an ideal worth
remembering, a goal worth achieving, a
‘Star’ worth striving for. Our quest
continues...
