PRESIDENT'S
GAVEL Y
With the coming of fall, one turns his thoughts to a new
school year and a new quarter at Phi Gamma Delta. Yet,
Ihave some mixed emotions concerning this past summer
at Omicron Deuteron. We were deeply saddened by the tragic
loss of a close friend and brother, Mike Krzykoski. This
tragedy put a damper on an otherwise fantastic week at Fiji
Academy, here in Columbus. I really enjoyed meeting
everyone involved and it was a learning experience that I
will never forget. Another positive aspect this summer was
a very successful summer rush that culminated with our
pledging 19 fine young men.
We, at Omicron Deuteron, are looking forward to having
an excellent year. We have a strong membership of 105 men
and everyone is excited about this quarter and this year.
Financially, we have revamped our budget and bill collect-
ing procedures, and this has enabled our treasurers, Jack
Alexander and Ron Zesch, to run a more efficient treasury.
Also, ii H we have been able
to combat the accounts receivable problems that we have had
in the past. Our social calendar is one of the best in the Greek
community, and Homecoming with the Alpha Xi Delta
sorority was full of surprises and merriment. We have a new
Purple Legionnaire, Dave Critser and a new Section Chief,
Frank Ganz. A special thanks goes to both Sam Weaver and
John Gibson, for their efforts as Purple Legionnaire and Sec-
tion Chief, respectfully.
We are having another great quarter of active community
service. Again, we are involved in the Columbus Public
Schgol’s ‘*Adopt-A-: i . This quarter, we par-
ticipated with the Michigan Fiji chapter in the ‘‘Love Run’’
to Ann Arbor to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Associa-
tion, too. Finally, we had our annual Christmas party for
the orphans of St. Stephen’s Community House. This is an
annual event that involves giving some orphans a little
“Christmas Magic’’ that they might not otherwise receive.
On a final note, I would like to thank everyone for their
sympathetic thoughts and encouraging words during our time
of trial this summer. It is. very comforting to know that so
many people were thinking of us, and I know everyone at
Omicron Deuteron feels this way, too. If anything, this
tragedy has brought our house even closer together, and has
made a strong brotherhood even stronger. If you’re ever in
Columbus, please feel free to stop in at any time and say
hello. Thank you.
Fraternally,
Phil Hugus

Letter from the Editor
As my term as Corresponding Secretary and Editor of the Buckeye
Fiji comes to an end, I must express some of my feelings about cor-
responding with you, our Graduate Brothers. First, let me say it has
been a privilege to keep you in touch with the activities of the present
Omicron Deuteron chapter. One of the purposes of the Buckeye Fiji
is to make sure our Graduate Brothers stay aware of the present state
of the house. I hope I have been successful with this task.
In order for future Corresponding Secretaries to continue with this
task, we need your cooperation. Please notify us whenever you have
moved so we can report to International Headquarters your change of
address. Furthermore, we like to see alot of Graduate Update responses.
We can never have enough of these!
We are still missing almost all of the records, composites, pictures,
etc. of Omicron Deuteron from the 1920’s-1950’s. If anyone has any
idea of the whereabouts of these important items please contact the
house.
T hope you enjoy reading the Buckeye Fiji. I have tried to make it
an informative and entertaining newsletter. The work has been hard,
but the experiences in putting it together have been rewarding. As I
have said before, we appreciate any type of comments, criticisms, stories
or pictures that you may have. I will do everything I can to make sure
the transition to the next editor goes smoothly, so we can continue print-
ing a top-notch newsletter.
Fraternally,
Kenneth A. Chin
Corresponding Secretary
Homecoming 1985
‘This year’s Homecoming Float competition produced a creative
entrant from the Phi Gamma Delta - Alpha Xi Delta Team. This
year’s Homecoming theme was “Razzle Dazzle’’. The Fiji-Fuzzie
duo came-up with a towering float that resembled a ‘‘Super
Buckeye” football player. Although the float didn’t win any
awards, we still had a great time making it. Thanks must be ex-
tended to Eric Wesolek and Bernie Van Antwerp for their hard
work, to the Columbus Distributing Co. for sponsoring the float,
and to the ladies of Alpha Xi Delta sorority for putting-up with
us all week.
\r\nPig Dinner 1985
Once again, Omicron Deuteron’s Pig Dinner was a tremendous suc-
cess. Over two hundred Graduate Brothers and active members attended
the dinner held at the Columbus Athletic Club.
After having a few cocktails, the evening got off to a rousing start
when the Omicron Deuteron Fall Pledge Class of 1985 brought in the
pig. This ceremony was highlighted when Girard Bond (°22), the oldest
Graduate Brother in attendance kissed the pig on its snout. According-
ly, he was given a well-deserved standing ovation. Greg Sutton, the
youngest pledge, fulfilled his obligation of kissing the pig elsewhere.
After dinner, our guest speaker, Tom Matte (’61), told stories of his
undergraduate years as a Phi Gam and other humerous stories about
playing football for Woody Hayes and later for the Baltimore Colts.
All in all, the evening was a success.
House Corp. President Rick Smudz was responsible for organizing
the dinner, and we thank him for his fine effort. We also must thank
Dick Wallace (°80) for supplying the pig and Tom Matte for being the
guest speaker. It was a good time for all to remember that ‘Phi Gam-
ma Delta is not for college days alone.”
Girard Bond (22) prepares to kiss the pig as pledges Chip

Fiji ‘Love Run’’ to Michigan
This year's Ohio State-Michigan football game was especially in-
teresting for Phi Gams from both Ohio State and Michigan. We held
our biannual “Love Run’’ to Ann Arbor to benefit the Muscular
Distrophy Association.
On the Friday afternoon before the game, approximately forty Fijis
and thirty members of the Delta Delta Delta sorority left Columbus
with great expectations of a Buckeye victory in our minds and a foot-
ball in our hands. The road to Ann Arbor was long and grueling, but
our spirits and hopes were high. Chip Greenlee won a raffle drawing
and had the honor of running the actual game ball into Michigan
Stadium. We all felt proud when the Public Address announcer told
the SRO crowd of 105,000 people about our accomplishment. With our
door-to-door campaign and corporate sponsorship, we were able to raise
over nine hundred dollars, that will be given to the Muscular Dystrophy
Association.
The Michigan Fiji Chapter held their ‘To Hell and Back’? run that
benefited Multiple Sclerosis in conjunction with our ‘*Love Run.” We
owe them a special thanks for securing a game ball and for hosting
us for the weekend. Also, we must thank the Tri Delt sorority for helping
us collect money and for making this ‘*Love Run"? one of the most
successful ever. Even though the Buckeyes didn’t emerge victorious,
we all had a great time during the ‘Love Run.”
Fraternally,
Dan Fleming
“Love Run" Chairman
Omicron Deuteron Suffers
Tragic Loss =
This summer, Omicron Deuteron suffered a tragic loss. On the night
of August 14, 1985, one of our Brothers, Michael Krzykoski was serv-
ing beer at a lot party we had to bring Fiji Academy to a close. While
he was serving beer, a tree limb came down and hit some electrical
wires. These electrical wires fell down onto the beer trailer where Mike
was serving beer. Both Mike and Sam Weaver, at the time our Purple
Legionnaire, were electrocuted. Sam was hospitalized for a few days
and fortunately is all right now. Unfortunately, the shock that went
through Mike was too severe; Mike was pronounced dead at Universi-
ty Hospital later that evening.
Mike will surely be missed by his family, friends, fraternity brothers
and anyone else who knew him. We all have different memories of Mike
and how he lived life. Yet, in as much as our memories of Mike are
different, there was a certain quality about Mike that we will always
remember.
Mike was one of those rare guys who didn’t have any enemies. His
smiling face and bubbling personality always seemed to brighten our
day, Anyone who knew and loved Mike found him to be a selfless per-
son. He always had a place in his heart for helping others, whether
it was needed or not. Whether it was picking up kegs for parties, help-
ing out in the kitchen, helping his fraternity brothers build lofts in their
rooms, or community service; Mike could always be found lending a
hand. Mike was a Brother in the truest sense.
It is with these memories and the lasting impression Mike made on
our house, that Omicron Deuteron has established a memorial scholar-
ship fund in his honor. This scholarship will be presented annually to
the brother who best typifies the fine qualities that Mike possessed.
Anyone who would like to make a contribution to the scholarship fund
can write to Dan Fleming at the Fiji House, who is in charge of the
memorial fund, Checks can be made payable to the Michael Stephen
Krzykoski Memorial Fund. Thank you.

\r\nGraduate Spotlight :
Omicron Deuteron has had its share of crazy brothers over the years.
When talking about these guys, there's always one name that keeps pop-
ping up whose feats as an undergraduate are still talked about today.
His name is Scott ‘‘Action’’ Jackson.
Scott went to Ohio State for five years. During his undergraduate
days, Scott played lacrosse for the Buckeyes for two seasons. He was
also active in Fiji intramurals and was a Pledge Educator for two classes,
too.
Yet, when people talk about Scott, they think of other things Scott
did as an undergraduate. Dave Critser, our Purple Legionnaire, and
one of Scott’s pledge brothers remembers the time Scott wore a pump-
kin on his head at Pig Dinner or the night Scott came home from the
bars one night in January, with his clothes under his arm. These, of
course, are the more printable stories. According to Dave, “*Scott was
the craziest guy in the house. He was the one who set the rowdy tone
for the house when we were in school.’’ Some of the actives in the
house still remember the infamous Homecoming Toga Party with the
Pi Phi’s last year, when Scott wore a transparent toga.
Scott (center) is pictured here with brothers Scott Edwards
(left) and Billian Bischsel.

Now, Scott has settled down. He resides in Sioux Falls, South Dakota,
with his wife Jayne and their dog, Gizmo. He’s the Unit Manager in
charge of Security Services for the Citibank-Citicorp firm. Just recently ™,
he brought his wife to Columbus to show her where he “‘spent fiv.
of the best years of my life.’”
Of course, Scott still speaks fondly of his undergrad years as a Fiji.
“The experiences and friends I made and had will be with me forever.
My college friends are my best friends. I still speak to alot of them
even today.’ One thing Scott always remembers is that ‘‘Phi Gamma
Delta is not for College Days Alone!’’ Omicron Deuteron, of course,
shares this thought and invites Scott and his wife Jayne down to Col-
umbus, if Scott ever wants to visit, or re-live some of his college antics.
