THETA'S OWN "ROY" SERVING
AS FIELD SECRETARY
Charles
R. Fletcher, a
1973 Political
The field secretaries program of Phi
Gamma Delta is now the best among all
one of its four field secretaries. Theta is
general fraternities, involving a three month
training iirogram at national headquarters in
Lexington, Kentucky.
Being a field secretary, says Roy, is an
excellent oppr.rtunity for a recent graduate.
The work is interesting and is a great way
to travel. Roy usually drives between
chafiters, though sometimes he will fly. His
days off, he says, a lot of limes are spent
catching up on reports.
It is with great pride Theta calls Charlie
Fletcher its own. Who would have thought
that the crazy guy running around in a
proud to be the home chapter of "Roy," as
he was nicknamed in his freshman year.
We are not surprised to see Roy continue
hi.s service to the fraternity beyond his
school days. As a third generation Fiji, the
Atlantic, Virginia native served his own
chapter as historian and President. In a
recent visit "back home," it was evident that
he was enjoying his work, and had plenty of
interesting stories to tell.
Roy found a high regard for Phi Gamma
Delta among deans on campuses all across
hi.s region, which includes schools in the
upper midwest and parts of Canada. He also
has found Fijis wherever he visits to be
friendly and warm, and they show a great

PIG DINNER HELD MARCH 9TH
Theta Chapter held its annual Norris Pig
Dinner this year on March 9th at the
Chapter house. Mr. Banner Mahood, former
Archon president now residing in
Greensboro, Alabama, was the guest
speaker.
The event began in mid afternoon with
cocktails and the passing along of numerous
stories. The warm early spring day provided
an
excellent setting.
Before
sundown,
however, the traditional tune of "Bringing in
the Pig was
heard as all. of the brothers
lined up in the usual procession. This year's
dinner was not quite the same, as Andrew
Drop Jackson, our faithful butler for well
ov(m .50 y(!ars, was not able to attend, due to
illnc'ss.
No one was able to recall "Drop" having
ever missed a pig dinner before, and we are
sorry he was ill, however, he's back now,
strong as ever.
Among the recipients this year of the
chapter's awards were: Don Bevill ('73) best
alum; Mike Hudson ('74), best active, and
Eric Wilhite ('77) best pledge. These young
men are to be congratulated for a job well
done, and we hope that their work and help
h,
will continue and al.so influence the rest of
the chapter and its alums.
FIJIS, young and old, meet again.
