GRADUATE
SPOTLIGHT
Jeff Garr
“Golden Eagle Fiji” has picked Jeff
Garr for the graduate spotlight this
quarter. While attending Tennessee
Tech, Jeff served as fraternity president
for the 1981-82 year and also as
treasurer during 1980-81. Jeff also
served as chairman of the social
committee and the athletic committee.
He also participated in intramural
wrestling for the fraternity. On campus,
Jeff was captain and president of the
Tennessee Tech rugby team. He was
also a member of Mortar Board,
Omicron Delta Kappa, a Greek honor
society, Pi Tau Sigma, an engineering
honor society, and Kappa Mu Epsilon,
another engineering honor society. Jeff
also received the Phi Gamma Delta is
Leadership award at Pig Dinner 1981.
Since graduating in winter quarter
1982, Jeff has been employed by

INSIDE THE CHAPTER
PRESIDENT’S
LETTER
Dear Brothers:
The Theta Tau Chapter has been
very busy this quarter. An extended six
day rush proved to be a success as the
chapter inducted 14 new pledges. Todd
Arrants ’83 is currently serving as IFC
Rush Chairman and is working hard to
update Tech’s rush program. Fall rush
was “dry” campus wide and all of the
fraternities seem to agree it was a
change for the best.
Parent’s Day and Homecoming gave
the chapter a chance to display our
remodeled living room. These events
were well attended and very productive
for the chapter as the newly formed
House Corporation met at both
functins. Al Enochs (UT 76) is serving
as House Corporation president and
has the corporation well on its way of
achieving several goals and objectives.
For the first time since the chapter’s
founding, we did not enter the
Homecoming float competition, but the
Fiji Kazoo Corps lived on. The chapter
also placed 2nd in the Homecoming
games and worked the concessions at
the football game, so Homecoming was
just as hectic as ever.
In sports, the Phi Gam football team
was unable to repeat the 1981, IFC
Championship as the chapter finished
3rd in the purple division with its only
losses going to the hands of SAE and
TKE. To illustrate the power of the
division this year, SAE and TKE both
advanced to the final 4 of the all-campus
playoffs. SAE defeated the Tekes in the
semi-finals before losing to Thunder
and Lighting in the finals. Wrestling is
just around the corner and the chapter
will be defending its 1981 wrestling
championship in hopes of staying at the
top in the race to keep the All-Sports
trophy. The chapter is proud to have
Lee Workman ’82 serving as IFC
Athletic Director.
The 134th Maple Leaf Ekklesia was
extremely fruitful for the Theta Tau
chapter as the fraternitie’s
representatives returned home from
Canada with 2nd place in the Archon’s
Trophy, our second academic
achievement award, and special
recognition for the Cheney Cup. I
would like to take this opportunity to
thank Lee Moss (UT ’73) not only for
his help at our first Ekklesia, but also for
the sacrifices he makes for our chapter
and other chapters in our section as our
section chief.
The chapter continued to lead the
way on the Tech campus in scholarship
as the fraternity was awarded the IFC
Scholarship Trophy for spring quarter.
This is the first time the trophy has been
presented on campus. The trophy is
presented on a rotating basis to the
fraternity with the highest Q.P.A. and
will become permanent property if a
fraternity wins it three quarters in a
row. Hopefully, the fraternity will havea
new addition to the trophy case by
spring quarter.

Speaking of looking ahead, this is my
final letter as chapter president and as
an undergraduate. December will bring
for mea new way oflife. only hope that
1 can take with me the knowledge,
understanding, patience, and love that
my brothers have taught me. I would
like to thank the brothers who have
served so diligently on cabinet this past
year, the brothers who have worked on
committees, the graduates who are
living proof that Phi Gam is not for
college days alone, and last, but not
least, the brothers that have kept our
chapter and its officers in their prayers.
Above all, I want to thank God for
allowing me this precious opportunity
to serve my brothers and for allowing
me to be the best- a Flul!
