1982 March Newsletter Lambda Iota (Purdue University)
RUSSELL STREET REVIEW
The brothers ofiLfciambda lota are heavy-hearted with the announcement of
the retirement of two-Phi Gam Purdue administrators. Dr. Bob Dillingham,
Director, Management Counseling, and Dr. Arthur Hansen, President of Purdue
University, are stepping down from their respective positions after a tenure of
dedicated service to Purdue. Gentlemen - we salute the fine years of your wise
leadership and the many more of Brotherhood.
"I would rather be a Fiji," "Here's to good ol' Delta," and "College Days"
are just a few of the Fiji classics that are heard throughout the halls once again
at 640 Russell.
It's true; after a little research, some encouragement from the
graduates and enthusiasm amongst ourselves, the Fijis are back singing and pro
ducing the exciting sounds of harmony. However, there is one major obstacle
hindering our efforts - we have no piano! In our May '81 issue of Boilermaker
Fiji, we announced our need for a new or used grand piano. Our efforts in
acquiring the instrument have been fruitless. Again, we come to you. If you
know the whereabouts of a used grand piano for our house, we would greatly
appreciate you letting us know.

Who ever said, "The brotherhood of Phi Gamma Delta Lives On Forever,"
was absolutely right. This past semester the brothers were treated to a unique
fanfare of spirited alumni during our homecoming weekend. We marveled and
laughed at countless memories while the mi^ty class of '56 rejoined to celebrate
twenty-five years of brotherhood. Thanks to you all for sharing your lives
with us and leaving us a part of you.
The fall semester of 1981 has been a productive one for our house. We pre
sently hold second place in what is a tight race for intramurals this year. We
are confident that the second semester season will bring back the championship
trophy, where it belongs, next to Gamma.
We also had a very successful run to I.U. for the American Cancer Society.
Jim Dodson and Bill Woolverton's efforts as co-chairmen escalated the money
drive to well over $1800. It was a total team effort and one we're very proud
of. A special thanks to brother George King, who threw the ball off from RossAde Stadium.
Above all else, we as a house are concentrating heavily on scholarship.
Our poor showing last semester has left a bad taste throughout this year. Our
Mary McCarty Club showed their concern by giving us six fluorescent reading
lamps for our libraj-/. Believe me, ladies, your kindness has added a new dimen
sion to our school work.
Finally, we would like to congratulate Pat Barr for becoming the #79 presi
dent of Phi Gamma Delta. Joining him in the new cabinet are Jim Dodson, Gordon
King, Bill Woolverton and Paul Hellmich, all of the class of '83. We are looking
forward to a successful year, and would appreciate any suggestions that you
have regarding the direction of the house.
We hope that you all will make the effort to join us in the ritual "Pig Dinner"
on February 28 (Sunday), 1982. Chairman Gerry Mason is working hard in an
effort to make this year's dinner an exceptional one.
We are very proud to
announce that Joe Carney, Phi Gamma Delta's national president, will speak. So
mark your calendars and make plans accordingly. Come see what our new pledge
program's all about. Until then brothers, God bless you one and all, and have
a very Merry Christmas.
