President's Message
It has been nearly a year since the last issue of The
Bulldog Fiji was published. I certainly hope this issue
finds you and yours doing well.
Since our last issue, many exciting things have hap
pened to Sigma Mu on our way "Toward Excellence."
We finished spring '86 semester on a "bang" with our
annual FIJI Island part)'. We finished first in grades ot'eraU
among the "row"fraternities. In addition, we began sum
mer with a positive attitude of what was going on and
things to come.
Nine active brothers attended the 138th Ekklesia held
in Lexington, Kentucky. We walked awat' with several
awards. We received the chapter reunion award with 13

With the arrival of fall, we pledged 23 young men.
However, we only initiated 14. But these 14 are of the
highest FIJI character. Last fall pro\'ed to be a good
semester for social and leadership, as several good par
ties were held, and several brothers were elected to high

leadership positions on campus.
With the amval ofspring and the Field Secretaire's wsit,
we became aware of some weak areas that need to be
improved. These areas include: finance, scholarship, com
munity and social service, and graduate relations. It has
been said that once you recognize you ha\'e a problem,
you are halfway to solving it. I don't know if that is true,
but I will assure you that our able and willing cabinet
as well as the entire chapter are doing all we can to tackle
these problems and once again be in contention for the
Cheney Cup.
This semester is already proving to be successful. We

The composite Commandos raided Rice Hall to borrow
the D.C. composite. First, they steal the composite, then
they could not get it into the car so they had to go by
foot back to the house where they discovered it was two
years old. The Commandos returned to the D.C. floor
and borrowed the current composite but when they
returned to the car it would not start. They did finally
get the car started and returned to the house with their
