.PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Leading Pi Chapter has been both a pleasure and a
learning experience. The chapter as a whole has returned as
leaders of the Allegheny campus. I hope that my influence
and dedication to the chapter has effected its performance
in a positive manner. Pi Chapter, due to its improvements,
is definitely on the right track to success.
The fall semester brings with it 16 newly initiated
brothers. Their enthusiasm and pride in Pi Chapter can be
seen through their dedication to its advancement.
The brothers of Pi Chapter have become more than just
members of the house. We have placed brothers in organi
zations such as IFC vice president, ASG representatives,
football team leaders, VISA representatives, dorm RD's and
RA's, and following in the footsteps of brother John Swick
'86, economics club president.
The intramural trophy is well within the grasp of the Phi
Gam's. Brothers are participating in all types of competition
ranging from football and basketball to tennis and golf.
We have had the privilege to host our field secretery Tim
Ross (Vermont 86). His input has been very beneficial to
the progress of the chapter. Our thanks goes to the inter
national fraternity for all their help.
Finally, I would like to thank all the graduate brothers for
their constant help and support. Without you. Pi Chapter
would just be a place to live. You are the life blood of the
FIJI House and we are indebted to you. Always proud to be
a FIJI.

\r\nHOUSE MANAGER REPORT
The 1985-86 school year ended with some major outdoor
house improvements(headed by the now graduate brothers
Steve Santamaria and Mark Lamendola). These improve
ments included: a split rail fence, landscaping of the back
yard, and the addition of two purple clematis plants, shrubs,
and mulch to the front of the house. For this coming year
we hope to concentrate on the inside of the house with such
house improvement ideas as: repainting the stairwells, repanelling older sections of the house, refinishing the wood
work of the living room and stairwells, and minor renovation
r I:
of the brothers' rooms. Also, we hope to get a washer and
dryer to make life easier for the brothers and make the
house more appealing to perspective pledges.
PI CHAPTER AT THE
138th EKKLESIA
The 138th Ekklesia was held at the home of our Interna
tional Headquarters, Lexington, Kentucky. The Ekklesia
proceedings, however, were actually held in the Lexington
- HISTORIAN
Many additions to the duties of the Historian have been
■■ made since our return to campus last year. Upon my elec
tion as Historian, John Susnak ('86), the former Historian
and I felt a great need for a post initiation program for our
^ new brothers. He and I started a program of four meetings
for the "new guys" to inform them of the various esoteric
aspects of Phi Gamma Delta and one meeting based on the
obligations of a college student in college and the world. So
"" far it has gone very well and with suggestions from Field
Secretary Tim Ross (Vermont '86) it looks to be greatly im
proved.
mm
Something else that has been started and will be passed
down from Historian to Historian is the chapter history, also
started by John Susnak. This is a written account of the ac
tivities of Pi Chapter and will be presented to my successor.
One project that we hope to complete by this spring is
bringing all books from the library downstairs and placing
them in new bookshelves in the foyer area. Some of these

Saturday and Sunday at the Ekklesia were for the most
part filled with meetings and reports. Committees met for
the first time Saturday afternoon, one of which the Miscel
laneous Affairs Committee, was comprised in part by our
selves and brothers from several other chapters. Saturday
was also a big day in that it was announced that our proba
tion with the International Fraternity was reduced from
Graduate Trusteeship to Board of Control.
Even with the strict schedule of meetings, we managed to
attend the convocation of the headquarters, tour the
building, attend some of the planned extra-curricular ac
tivities, and make many friends with brothers from chapters
scattered across the country. It was a great showing of
brotherhood cutting across geographic and economic
boundaries!
Monday and Tuesday were basically wrap-up days.
During Monday afternoon, we met with Section Chief Bob

the college, and the best way to go about removing our
selves from probation.
The highlight of the Ekklesia occured Monday night at the
Ekklesia Banquet. Tribute was paid to former Executive
Director William Zerman (Michigan '49). The guest speaker
was Dr. Norman Vincent Peale (Ohio Wesleyan '20), who
proved to be very entertaining and enlightening.
Tuesday brought an end to the Ekklesia with mixed
feelings of accomplishment and sadness. After the closing

ourselves and the chapter, and left us many good ideas and
good memories.

\r\nSOCIAL RELATIONS COMMITTEE
On October 28 and 29, the Brothers of Pi Chapter, along
with Kappa Kappa Gamma, held a haunted house at the
Chapter House itself. The proceeds benefitted the Green
house shelter for battered women and children.
The
donation at the door was $1.00. The turnout, from both the
Meadville and campus community, was great. A grand total
of $225.00 was collected. The Brothers of Pi Chapter and
the Sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma put a great deal of time
and effort into this community relations project. It lasted for
2 hours on both nights (8:00-10:00 pm), and it seemed to
pay off very well.
Fraternally,
RUSH
Rush at Allegheny has been changed somewhat for 19861987. Freshmen males will be required to remain outside
fraternity grounds for two weeks so that they may acquaint
themselves with the Allegheny Community. The following
two weeks will be an "All Greek Rush".
This will be a
period of time in which freshmen males may get familiar
with the Greek System at Allegheny through the combined
efforts of all 7 fraternities.
There will be no alcoholic beverages served at any rush
functions held at Phi Gamma Delta. We hope to have a
sound and successful rush ending up with quality in
dividuals.

- GATOR FOOTBALL
The Allegheny College Gators are currently 1-1 in the
mm NCAC and 1 -2 overall. The Gators faced a tough opening
opponent in Carnegie Mellon University and suffered a
heart-breaking loss to Denison University in the closing
minutes of the game. The Gators showed their winning
character as they shut out a tough 2-0 Oberlin team 10-0.
John Giliberto ('89) was named NCAC Defensive Player of
the Week. A key to the recent success on the gridiron is the
-■ participation of several FIJI'S who include: Michael Graham,
John Giliberto, Jonathon Chaplowe, Tom Brown, Brian
Keene, Doug Cabral, Kurt Moledor, and Ray Konopka ('89);
^ Jim Milani, George Zozo, and Ron Piso ('88); and John
Lehman, Lex Winans, and Shawn Wolfinger ('87).

FIJI GRADUATE NEWS BRIEF
Judson Shutt ('77) was a member of Pi Chapter for two
years. During that time, he held the Historian position of the
cabinet. I decided to call Judson and see how he was doing
now that he is gone from Pi Chapter. Judson is now an at
football and therefore cannot participate in Fall intramurals.
Our intramural goal this year is to win the overall in
torney in Houston who deals v/ith personal injury, specifi
cally product liability and health problems due to asbestos.
Judson did his graduate studies at Ohio Northern University.
Judson has been married for the last eight years and has
been living the last five in Houston. While not in court, Jud
son takes advantage of the nice weather by playing soccer
and running 10k races. While at our chapter, Judson said he
made many great friends and has many fond memories of
fraternity life. Far too many to just mention one or two.
However, he did leave a message to the FIJI'S who were
here with him. "Zuit — Where are you?" The members of
Pi Chapter would like to thank Judson for his cooperation.
tramural title. If we can come out of the fall season in good
shape, we will have a good shot at winning the title!

INTRAMURALS
The outlook is bright for the FIJI intramural teams this
year. We are trying to field a team or individual in every
event offered. Our IM football team got off to a fast start by
beating OX 18-2 on Sunday. As of now, this is the only
event that has gotten under way. Other events begin this
week.
At the present time, we are shorthanded in the number of
people that can compete because half of our brothers play
