PRESIDENT'S REPORT
As the win t er term opens, I must start by applauding the house corporation and the graduate brothers for making the
hou se at Pi C hapter a "ho me " we can all be proud of. Un de r th e g u idance of Ben M iceli, House Co rpo rat ion Presiden t,
Pi Chapter has undertaken a proj ect to reno vate t he entire ho use. Also deserving app lause are th e und erg radu ates
here at Alleghe ny. A lot of time and hard work has been devoted to make the project a successful one. Success and
pride is once again at the top of our agenda and it is to every brother of Pi Chapter we owe thanks.
So far the year has been a promising one. Brother David Rice and myself had the honor of attending the 140th Mile
High Ekklesia in Denver, Colorado, this past August. We learned a lot about the fraternity laws, ritual, and overall
construction of Phi Gamma Delta, all of which has been passed on to Pi Chapter.
First term here at Allegheny, we took a three man pledge class with an average grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0
scale. Of the three, Scott Ekin has been accepted into Mayo Medical Clinic and Tony Pendolino ranks 3rd in the nation
in wrestling. As time moves quickly, we are proud to say that this term we took a pledge class of sixteen fine young
men . High academics is our goal and under the guidance of Pledge Educator Kurt Moledor the program has been very
successful.
Fl,Jl 's are st ill the outshining star on the Allegheny Campus. This year the brothers hold several key positions of
responsibil ity and variety on campus . We currently hold the position of: I.F.C. President, I.F.C. Treasurer, College
Republ ican President, Student Ambassador, Gator Football Captain , Gator Wrestling Captain, and seven res ident
advisors; all of which pass on the word of success.
We have learned that through hard work and dedication our "Quest for Excellence" becomes a clearer image. The
brothers are excited about all that has gone on here at Pi Chapter. We want to share it with you. This year our annual
Norris Pig Dinner will be held at the Chapter house. Please come and visit!

\r\nTREASURER'S REPORT
As new treasurer of Pi Chapter, I am pleased to
report that we are still regarded a financially strong
chapter by the National Fraternity. I have also been
informed that our accounting system developed by our
past Treasurer, Jonathon Chaplowe, is upheld with the
utmost respect and serves as an example to other
undergraduate chapters. My transition into this position
from the House Manager position was made quite
easily with the entrusting aid of Geoff Garnhart, our
most recent past Treasurer. We ran into some small
problems at the beginning of the term because Geoff
ran short on money over Christmas break and had
some problems paying bills. However, with his aid, we
worked the problems out, and again are having no
problems with our budgeted funds.
I would also like to comment on our recent fund
raiser and thank all those Graduate Brothers who have
donated. Duane Spencer, Treasurer of the House
Corporation, has informed me that the response thus
far is very promising. Again, thank you!

CORRESPONDING SECRETARY
1988 has been extremely rewarding for the brotherhood of Phi Gamma Delta. And 1989 is proving even
greater.
As our chapter house celebrated its 75th birthday, it
underwent extensive renovation through a lot of hard
work on the part of the brotherhood. The entire 1st
floor has been remodeled. Wall to wall carpeting was
laid in the living room, dining room, and foyer. New
furniture was delivered, lighting fixtures replaced and
horizontal blinds hung on all the windows. The renovation of our house will hopefully be completed by the
end of the year, however, talk of adding a new addition
to the present structure has continuously been discussed. Our feeling was that the best way for us to
improve our rush program and improve our impression
on the faculty, students, and administration was to
improve the house and truly make it a home. Already,
the rewards of our labor are being seen. Faculty and
administration alike have commented on the improvements, but the biggest prize was the 16 young men we
took for our second term pledge class, all of them
noted that the improvements we made played a major
role in their decisions to pledge Phi Garn.
This year Pi chapter is also proud to announce the
initiation of three members from our first term pledge
class. The Brotherhood has taken three new members
who bring their own special talents which add to the
chapter. They are: Brent Beachy, economics; Scott
Ekin, pre Med.; and Anthony Pendolino, pre Med. Scott
is an RA. in Baldwin Hall and has just been accepted to
the Mayo Clinic Medical School. Tony is an all American
wrestler who last year was ranked 5th at the National
championships. Brent hails from the Western Maryland
region and is an active intramural athlete- participating
in basketball and softball. Brent is a Frank Wilbur Main
award winner and is actively seeking employment in
the financial, building, or automotive industry.
This year, Fijis are involved in numerous leadership
roles in the campus community, in athletics, scholastics, and in Residence Life. We currently lead all
other greek organizations on campus with the most
RA's (7). Five of our brothers have been named Alden
Scholars, possessing GPA between 3.0 and 3.79. In the
athletic circle, two of our Brothers were named captains
in both Football and Wrestling.
But we have also not forgotten about the community
here in Meadville. While we were unable to conduct our
annual Haunted House because of our renovation, we
still participated in a program which refurbished a
downtown park, participated in the USF & G football
for Cystic Fibrosis, and we still plan to participate in
this year's Bowl for Kid's Sake to benefit Big Brothers &
Big Sisters.
All in all the '89 school year has been a very exciting
and rewarding experience. Before I end this note, I
want to encourage all of you, Graduate Brothers and
those from other Chapters, to come visit Pi Chapter
and share our pride.

HOUSE CORPORATION PRESIDENT
I feel compelled to write to our graduate brothers
about what is happening at Pi Chapter. "454 North
Main" is not what is had been in the recent past. There
is now a sense of well being that I have not seen since
my undergraduate days. For the first time, during my
years as Purple Legion, and now as House Corporation
President; I am seeing a concern for self, a real concern
for others and a wonderfu I concern for the condition of
the house. There is a general comraderie rather than
isolated pockets of togetherness. There is a real
awakening on the part of the undergraduate brothers
as to the purpose of being at Allegheny. These undergraduate brothers are showing an appreciation for
what we have been able to do for them for the first time
since my involvement. Each time that I walk through
the house, I am overwhelmed by the wonderful change
that is beginning to take hold.
I ask each of you that remembers your great years at
the Fiji house to make a visit. You will like whom you
see, you will like what you see.
Today, I am proud to be a Fiji!!

\r\nPURPLE LEGIONNAIRE'S REPORT
With the beginning of a new year, those of us in the
"real world" are confronted with a number of new
challenges (bills from the holiday season, New Year's
resolutions, financial planning for 1989, etc.). However,
the young men who are currently undergraduates are
well into their new year and have been for about four
months.
Some of their goals have been reached, some have
not, while others may not be reached this year. The
following are some of the highlights of first term:
1) Major improvements were made to the house
under the guidance of Ben Miceli and the rest of the
House Corporation. The downstairs area was
basically renovated and much needed repairs were
made to the plumbing and roof.
2) The grade point average of the upperclass pledge
class was a 3.4 on a 4.0 sca le.
3) Rush, it was very strong and resulted in the 16
young men who are now pledging.
On somewhat of a lesser note for first term, Chris
Wolfe no longer cooks for the Fijis.
Currently, the undergrads are looking into the feasibility of placing a small computer center (consisting of
2-3 computers) in the large closet (formerly the pantry)
adjacent to the foyer. It seems ironic that a computer
center is going to be placed in the pantry that Chumley
was always trying to get into.
On the downside, an overhaul of the financial records
has revealed that some recent graduates still owe
money to the chapter. It would be greatly appreciated if
these brothers could pay their bills now or sometime in
the future (if you are not financially able to at this time) .
Finally, let me say that working weekly with the
brothers is very gratify ing because they want to work to
improve ou r chapter. Their attitude is excellent and
they strive for excellence in every aspect of their
collegiate lives. The Fijis are still on top after all these
years .
If anyone has comments, questions, or suggestions,
please feel free to call me at (814) 333-3677 during the
day or (814) 337-7683 after 5 p.m. You may also write
me c/o the undergraduate chapter.

PAST PRESIDENT'S REFLECTIONS
Brothers,
As I look back upon my term as Chapter President, I
think of all the people who made my job easier and
more pleasant. I would like to take the time here to
thank them, so here goes: First of all, the undergraduates of Pi Chapter, men who have been my
brothers during my term and were helpful, supportive,
and willing to go the extra mile for the Chapter. It is
these men who are responsible for our greatest recent
accomplishment, removal of all sanctions by both the
college and the International Fraternity. It is they who
will continue to move us into the future. Next I would
like to thank Raymond "Uncle Kovie" Kovacs for
agreeing to assume the position of Purple Legionnaire.
Ray has always been a wealth of help and information, ·
and as Purple Legionnaire he is continuing to guide the
chapter and protect its best interests. Also thanks to
the House Corporation, most especially to Brother Ben
Miceli, who has worked so closely with the Chapter to
bring about the many improvements in the Chapter
House itself. Also thanks to Ben for many years of
service as Purple Legionnaire. Thanks to Tim Ross,
Matt Amend, and Paul Louis, our field secretaries, for
their invaluable guidance, advice and assistance. Heartfelt thanks to all of the graduate brothers all over the
country who have continued to take an interest in the
welfare of Pi Chapter and 454 N. Main. Finally, deepest
thanks and appreciation to my Cabinet, Geoff Garnhart
('89), Kurt Moledor ('89), Dean Skarlis ('90), and John
Ellermeyer, and Committee Chairs, who provided untold
hours of assistance and hardwork. No doubt there are
others I've forgotten, so thanks to anyone who took the
time to give a hand in making the Chapter the model
that it has come to be. You've all made my Presidency
mostly enjoyable and relatively hassle free .
I would also like to express my support and best
wishes to Jim Sweeney ('90), our new President, and
the rest of his cabinet. I have the greatest confidence
that they will do an outstanding job and continue to
move Pi in positive directions. Please continue to give
Jim and the new cabinet all the support and encouragement you have given me. Again, thanks to everyone.
Fraternally,
Brian J. Keene ('89)
