Finance Report
Since my last report, the Alpha Phi
chapter's financial position has im
proved dramatically. We have started
off our fiscal year better than ever be
fore. In past years we have had to work
hard to stay above water, just barely
making it, and in some cases, not mak
ing it at all. Now that the house is

we are in a position to improve on things
we could not have previously consid

been opened up at 707. We now have
funds budgeted for furniture replace

equipment, and a fraternity advisor

IPG.
Financially, our chapter is no small
business. We provide room,board,and
additional services for over 70 brothers,
employing over 20 brothers in addition
to the cleaning service and fraternity
advisor mentioned above. However,
this does not mean that there is no room
for additional improvement I would
like to see more diversification in our
revenues. Currently,96% of all reve
nues are collected from bonded con
tracts, with the remaining 4% coming
from pledge and out-of-house brother
dues. Although this is fine in times ofa
large house population,it becomes det

Grass Skirt
While Grass Skirt has always been
the climax ofevery year atPhi Gamma
Delta, this year's party promises to
surpass all others. In addition to the
day-long party and the traditional tap
ping ceremony, this year's party will
span an entire weekend. Beginning on
Friday, Grass Skirt will include a day
long Friends Party that we believe will
increase the popularity ofthe party,and
subsequently aid the following rush. In
an attempt to includestudentsoutsideof
our fraternity in this weekend, the
Friends Party seemed to be the perfect
idea.
Ofcourse,such an extravagantevent
needs time and money,so in addition to
the traditional fund raising techniques,
again we have attempted to branch
away from 707. Our new ideas include
snow shoveling for the elderly in Ann
Arbor and cleaning the basketball sta
dium after our National Champions
finish beating their opponents. Wefeel
that both ofthese ideas will help usraise
money,butequally asimportant we will
be involved with thecommunity and the
University.
Grass Skirt is not just for under
graduates alone, so we hope to see
alumni in Ann Arbor during the week
end of April20-21. Please contact me if
you plan on attending. More than ever.

The new school year is only a few
months old,but the fraternity Interamural Sports program is well under way.
Due to the loss of many athletic seniors
it was hard to predict how our IM teams
would fare in the '89-'90 season.
However, we soon found out that Phi
Gamma Delta was again going to be
tough to beat.
Golf was the fu-st sport of the year
and Fiji finished in 8th place out of 39
fraternities. After an average Softball
season we moved on to track. With the
help of Keith Yamada's('90)2nd place
finish in the 1600, Phi Gams placed
I2th. Br. Keith came through again in
cross country as he anchored a 4th place
overall finish (Keith finished 3rd, with
Brs. Tom Rogat ('91) and John
Roessler('91)weren't far behind). It is
shaping up to be another great year in
the Intramurals as Phi Gamma Delta is
currentlly in 5th place with our strong
est events still ahead on the schedule.
Phi Gams are also active in sports
outside the intermurals. We are very
proud of Br. Matt Elliot ('91) who is
starting for the Rose Bowl Champion
Michigan football team. Also Mike
Drucker('90) is the head student man
ager of the NCAA Champion basket
ball team and Brian Schragg ('89) is
now working full time for the football
department.
Once again Br. Lee
Michaud has proved to be one of the
best divers in the country, earning his
3rd straight Ail-American status.

There are many pressures placed
on a University of Michigan athlete.
There are the countless hours of prac
tice to prepare for the game, and above
all, they have to perform in front of
thousands of fans, meeting the approval
of alumni, students, and national audi

psychology major from Carmel, Indi

University of Michigan football team.
Not only has Brother Elliott shown his
adeptness on the field, playing in two
Rose Bowls, he has developed a strong
interest in his academics and his busi
ness pursuits. Brother Elliott also has
been an integral part of our chapter.
When not at practice or at class. Brother
Elliott is at all house meetings, func

interest in upholding the values of the
fraternity. He is strongly committed to
the chapter, the team, and to school.
When President of the University,
James Duderstadt, came to our house
for dinner. Brother Elliot volunteered

performance in the house and his suc
