are on Probationary Standards (with the school only, not
with the International Headquarters) at the present time, all
reports received from the Dean of Students indicate that,
with a successful Island Party in May, we will be fully and
totally recognized by Allegheny College! I can say this
j because of the effort that the Cabinet, Brothers, pledges,
itti^and myself have put into fighting our way back to the top.
Some of the changes here at Pi are: 1)documentation has
become a part of our daily routine; 2) our Scholarship

ments that have taken place since the last Pi Crust.
About the Rush program, we are pledging 16 new men in
hopes of finding new leaders for the future. These men were
selected very carefully and our program has diversified a
great deal in only two years. I am quite happy with the
progress that has been shown by the pledges.
I think our biggest and most important addition,
physically, is the addition of a chapter/ritual room in the
basement. Mr. Lew Davies has been quite cooperative with
\r\nour efforts to move along with the project. At the present
time we are in the process of walling off half of the
basement and sealing all doors and walls. Hopefully, with
GRADUATE BROTHERS
the help of all Brothers (and a little alumni support) we can
finish this project by the end of third term or over the
summer months. It is a great addition to the house.
Finally, I'd like to thank the House Corp., BOA, Alumni,
the Brothers, and my Cabinet for their help and support.
Without them. Pi Chapter would never have reached the top

MESSAGE FROM THE ECA
As I am sure you are aware the present president is Dr.
Daniel Sullivan who has come to us from Carlton College of
Minnesota. Cdrlton College is one of the finest small schools
and according to Dr. Sullivan has many of the same qualities
and attributes as Allegheny.
He feels that the type of young people Allegheny

RALPH H. KLINESTIVER ('23) - "Kliney" now lives in
retirement in St. Petersburg with his wife, Eileen. He worked
in Manilla, Phillipines from 1956 to 1958 and then in the VA

presently recruits are of high enough standards however,
they are not broadened enough in their first two years at
Allegheny. There is a great deal of concern about the decline
in population in resppct to the College prospects in the next
five to ten years.
These opinions were expressed during his speech to
about one hundred Allegheny grads here in Washington,
D.C. Following his speech the floor was open for questions
and the first question was in regards to fraternities and
sororities on campus.
Dr. Sullivan pointed out that he was not happy with the
present greek environment and that the greeks and
non-greeks should be less separated. This along with his
son, John. He was an Allegheny College Trustee in
statement that fraternities will not be babied and firm
and chemistry major, Ralph went to U. of Chicago and
actions will be taken against problems within the greek
system. Following his speech I had the opportunity to talk
with Dr. Sullivan regarding our individual situation in relation
to the greek environment and did not come away with a
very comfortable feeling.
Frankly, I am concerned that the greeks will continue to
suffer from guilt by association, and since our chapter is
such a visable one on campus we must continue to walk a
straight line. If at any time we do have any problems, we
must address them as quickly as possible. Obviously our
efforts to prevent problems and implement stronger
communications between our graduates, undergraduates,
and the college community will make all our lives a bit
easier.
I thank each and everyone of you for your past and
continued support.
Fraternally,
Mike O'Malley

having perfect 4.0 terms. Donald Santora also received
honors from Phi Beta Kappa, an honorary fraternity for
excellence in academics. Our fund for scholarship has also
been changed so that our top 15 brothers received
scholarship money for academic excellence. Mandatory
study sessions have also been set up for brothers who
receive under a 2.3 CPA for the term. These things are just a
few of the ways we will improve our average and get the
most of our academic college career.
