VOLUNTEER FIJI
President's Report
The Brothers of the Kappa Tau Chapter of The
Great Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta wound up the
summer and started off the fall quarter by putting
together one of the most outstanding pledge classes
that we have had in years. Thanks to our rush chair
man, Mike Valentine, and the efforts of all our
brothers, both graduate and undergraduate, we have
reaped the benefits of many hours dedicated to our
unceasing search for high caliber young men.
Brothers, our chapter has made great strides in
all areas of campus involvement since our last corre
spondence. The Kappa Tau Chapter can proudly say
that it is one of the most influential fraternities on
campus in all of student activities. We have a host
of brothers presently active on the University of
Tennessee Judicial Board which is in charge of
campus-wide disciplinary actions. We also have
among our numbers, members of the Student Tri
bunal, The Inter-fraternity Council, Student Govern-
ment, the Food Co-op Board, All Campus Events, and
we even have a reporter for the Daily Beacon. Our
chapter has a high level of confidence along with
VOL UNTEER FIJI
an awareness of where we need to be and how to
get there.
Fall 1978
Kappa Tau of Phi Gamma Delta
Our chapter has adopted a motto of working hard
and playing hard. We have many outstanding social
events highlighted by Fiji Island every Spring
quarter. For this fall we have a slate of band parties
scheduled along with a host of other exciting social
events.
With a quarter of experience behind the new cabi
net, it has begun the academic year with great en
thusiasm. It is our goal to strive for the traditional
grade of excellence in all of our endeavors repre
senting Phi Gamma Delta and the rich heritage of
the Kappa Tau Chapter.
John A. Parker Speaks To Pledge Class
On Tuesday, October 3, Kappa Tau's own dis
tinguished Graduate Brother John A. Parker was
present to speak to our new pledge class on the night
of their formal pledging. Brother Parker has led a
life dedicated to the advancement of the Fraternity
of Phi Gamma Delta. As everyone knows, John A.
Parker is the author of our pledge education manual
The Purple Pilgrim. Brother Parker has also served
as our Section Chief and as Field Secretary in the
National Fraternity. Kappa Tau could not have had

a more dedicated Fiji present to impress upon our
new pledges the significance of their new found af
filiation with the Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta.
Brother Parker not only spoke to the new pledges
H
about the high ideals and standards to which they
must conform, but also of the tremendous impact the
fraternity will have on their lives.
