Seventh Is Successful
Chi Omicron started off its Seventh Annual Norris Pig
Dinner Weekend with a "family and sweetheart" picnic on
the evening of May 12. Despite the threat of tornados, the
sun and Fiji brotherhood shone late into the evening
hours. Later, cards were once again shuffled at the chap
ter house, with Ken Ishmael (Cincy 71) occupying his
usual seat.
On Saturday morning. May 13, a high-spirited group of
Fiji golfers were greeted with ominous clouds and marshy
conditions, but their persistence overcame all. Brother
Chuck Huffman (Ohio Wesleyan '44) took the honors and
scotch with a 42 total, and Bob Smith (Cincy '79) trailed
the field with a distant 77 and gained the booby prize.
Brother Don Mighell (Texas '56) made a strong showing
with his 48, placing fifth. Afterwards, the group gra
ciously accepted Bruce Bauer's (Cincy '71) invitation for
cold beer and a hot lunch at his residence.
The afternoon activities opened with a BCA meeting,
followed closely by cocktail hour. All were especially
pleased to see Merrill Swain, Jr. (Penn State '44) return
once again to the chapter house. Perge Brother Swain!
Mention should also be made of some ardent supporters,
particularly Ed Daniel (Cincy '73), Nelson Evans (Cincy
'76), and Ted Sharber(Cincy '77).
Symposiarch Rick Pfahl (Cincy '78) called the dinner

their four year champion status. The pig was summoned,

"An Exile's Toast." A special presentation to the chapter
from John Kahermanes (Cincy '72) and Bob Searle (Cincy

The majority returned to the house to finish the cocktail
hour and sing some Fiji songs. When well primed, the
group invaded the other side of the river to admire some of
the finer(?) things in life. Of course. Skyline Chili finished
the evening. It was unanimously agreed, even by those
who didn't remember the entire evening, that a good time
was had by all.

\r\nPillow Fights Prosper
For the third straight year, the Fiji Pillow Fights were
the outstanding feature of Greek Week on the Cincinnati
campus. After the fraternity-sorority picnic, the entire
Greek community settled down on McMicken Hill to
observe the spectacle. Each group sent two representa
tives armed with pillows to go into battle. When the
moment of reckoning came, each contestant mounted the
well-greased plastic pipe to strike his enemy to the for
bidden pit—filled with blueberries and grape jam. The
results were comical, and the entire campus joined the
Fijis in feeling "PURPLE."

...ond the Doid
For yet another year, the Brothers of Chi Omicron ad
journed themselves to the wilds to celebrate Fiji Island.
Needless to say, the mug-toting arms of the Fijis were not
kept idle as this year's Friday night festivities .raged on at
the Idle Hour Campgrounds. Come sunup, they made
their way to nearby Stonelick Lake where brothers en
gaged in the oftentimes difficult tasks of canoeing, row
ing, and sailing. The return to the chapter house followed.
After feasting on hot dogs and burgers, the brothers
prepared for the party at the chapter house Saturday
night. Without a doubt, a good time was had by all.

Retreat Review
As the weekend of April 14th rolled around, the brothers
of XC took time out of their busy schedules to set goals,
discuss problems, and relax at the Wildwood retreat
grounds. The retreat, created to bring about a higher spirit
in the chapter, was arranged by George Hopper (Witten
berg '32) and conducted by Keith Mason (Cincinnati '75).
Attendance was high and purple blood was flowing as we
pointed out our weaknesses and discussed our strong
points. Cut of the retreat came innovative ideas and goals
for the coming year.

\r\nLeader's Legends
The newly elected officers of the Chi Omicron chapter
have the potential to become one of the most aggressive
cabinets this chapter has ever had. The offices are held by
enthusiastic brothers who are wliiing and eager to capi
talize on their strong personalities. This Is a cabinet that
enjoys challenges and will not hesitate to air conflicts and
problems.
President Don Strahler truly exemplifies the Fiji Ideal of
Persistence. He brings an excellent organizational track
record to his new office. Don was credited with coordinat
ing the building of the Fiji Homecoming float, which won
the third runner-up trophy, and also planning the very
successful Fancy Fiji Formal.
Marty Morris has taken over what Is considered the
chapter's most challenging job—Treasurer. His job will be
very demanding, but he didn't take over unprepared.
Marty's concern for the chapter's welfare, combined with
his authoritative personality, will fit In well with the
office's demands.
Brad Metzger has Inherited the office of Recording
Secretary for the next three quarters. He has made his
impact felt In this chapter through his constant efforts for
Improvement. Chi Omicron looks forward to three more
years of Brad's devoted service.
The new Corresponding Secretary is Rick Werbylo. He
served as Historian and Pledge educator Winter Quarter.
We can count on Rick exploring and getting Involved In
many areas. His desire for improvement and hard work
will prove to be an asset to the chapter.
It didn't take Curt Pohlman very long to get actively
Involved. He was only Initiated Fall Quarter, and has
already worked his way to a Cabinet position. As the new
Historian, Curt gives the XQ plenty of reason to look
forward to a great year.

Graduates and Wives take a breather
Defter Then Normal Forme!
This year's social spectacular took place at the beauti
ful Kings' Island Inn, right next to the famous amusement
park. Neither a bleak, tragic winter nor the fear of a com
ing blizzard could dampen the spirits of the thirty-five
couples who were In attendance.
The music was supplied by the dance band "Blue
Tater." The band jammed for four hours while the brothers
and their dates generated a lot of enthusiasm and spirit,
evidenced by the bar receipts. The band played tunes from
different musical periods, delighting graduates and un
dergraduates alike.
Perhaps the highlight of the evening was the presenta
tion of the Charles Burns Memorial Chump Cup to Dan
Horvath '80 for his purchase of the dog and the Qzzie and
Harriet Award to Don Strahler '80 and Zeta Tau Alpha
Sorority for the cooperation they enjoyed together In the
building of the homecoming float. Phil Steiger '73 and
Kevin Hopper '73, the "original" Qzzle and Harriet, were
on hand to present the award.
Thanks to all those In attendance and to Brother Strah
ler for making the arrangements. See you next year!

\r\nRegarding Rush...
DVD's With Degrees
(formerly graduate briefs)
Dear Graduate Brothers,
Rush this fall Is an extremely critical time for Chi
Omicron chapter. Although we only have two seniors
graduating this spring, a significant number are departing
for various reasons. To replace these losses, we need an
excellent rush season. This summer, rush will be based
on one-to-one contact with Incoming freshmen. We will
also have two weekend rush parties, however, both at the
chapter house. The first one will be a cookout on August
26, and the second one will be a victory party after the
football game on September 16. The fall schedule Is an
Intensive one, with two weeks of rush functions starting
on September 25.
We are constantly looking towards the graduates for aid
during this Important time. If you have any rush advice or
know of anyone attending the University that we would be
