"Judge Moore was Colonel of the Militia of Chowan County [5th NC Militia?], which went to Roanoke Island. After its fall he was in active service until the army disbanded. He served on the staff of Gen. D. H. Hill in the Seven Days' fight around Richmond, and assisted Dr. Edward Warren Bey in removing and caring for the wounded in those battles. Stricken with rheumatism on the field he was retired from active service." BF Pool, Literature in the Albemarle, p. 314.
