Aside from the awards, the highlight of the Academy was a

suggestions for improvement, and developing new friends.

November 21, 1970 was the date of installation of the 98th
Chapter of The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. The installation
was the climax of 19 months of hard work by Delta Colony of Phi
Gamma Delta at Mississippi State.
As the semester draws to an end, the Sigma Mu intramural
sports program is becoming more awesome daily. The Fall 1979
semester marks the most successful semester to date in terms of

participation and overall success. Phi Gams donned the purple
jerseys in many sports including swimming, tennis, table tennis,
raquetball, flag-football, tug-o-war, water polo, pillo polo, hot-shot
basketball, and volleyball.
The ever-elusive IFC Sports Participation Trophy becomes
closer to being within grasp everytime a Fiji steps onto a playing
field. Many participation points were accumulated this semester in
the lesser sports. In water polo and volleyball, Fijis also participated
in co-recreational competition with the ladies of Delta Gamma.
During football season. Phi Gamma Delta was represented by
four football teams. Chaos, Lagnaf, and the Warriors made their
presence known and compiled winning records. The vastly

The social calendar for this past semester has been a full one.
Beginning with the fall rush parties, including two Log Cabin affairs
and a champagne extravaganza the night of the pledging. Phi
Gams have established a social reputation on Fraternity Hill that
demands both respect and envy from onlookers.
The first swap was with Zeta Tau Alpha and had a fifties
theme. As seems to be ever-increasing occurrence, the Phi Gams
once again took on the role of trend-setters, and prepped for the
ZTA swap in ways unprecedented in MSU Greek history. A poem,
written about ZTA's and Fijis with a fifties theme, was sent to the
ladies the day of their chapter meeting before the swap. A sign was
hung at the Jackson football game preceding the swap that read—
FIJI SEZ: GO 'DOGS, GET FIRED UP ZTA'S ! 1 1 The ZTA
composite mysteriously appeared in the Fiji house a few days
before the swap, and the night before the party, over half of the
chapter stormed Hathorn Dormitory and serenaded the girls, who
had been forewarned to be out on their balcony in waiting. By the
ship and the Lebanon team to win the All-School Championship
time of the swap, anxious anticipation was about to get the best of
most. The party was highlighted by the colorful dress and the
return of the fabulous Nebulous and the Spacekings. A GOOD

League Championship by defeating the Lambda Chis. To put icing
on the volleyball season, DIJI, a co-recreational team of Fijis and
DG's, won the Co-Rec All-School Championship!
Plans are already being made for next semester as the goal is
to obtain the IFC Sports Trophy and establish a winning tradition
that will gradually lead to domination of Fraternity Hill in intramural
band (evidenced by the large crowd in attendance). Homecoming
weekend was one of fun and fellowship, as old acquaintances were
renewed and Fiji songs echoed gaily through every doorway. The
Original Drifters brought back memories from the sixties as Fijis
twisted the night away.
Soon after Homecoming came the Barnyard Bash with the

themselves with the ZTA's, the Phi Gams set out to intrigue the

ladies and have fun in doing so. The (()M's received a poem the
day of their chapter meeting, red roses a few days later, and on a
daring 3 a.m. mission to the fifth floor of Hathorn Dormitory the
night before the swap, a sign bearing 69 purple signatures was
deposited within yards of unaware sleeping Phi Mu's. The house
was adorned with the trimmings of a country barn, complete with
hay, chickens, and a goat! Those in attendance were entertained
by a small bluegrass combo and then the party really got underway
as Peter Webb and Black Widow played tunes late into the night.

As the last function of the semester, the Christmas Party
maintained its traditional low-keyed atmosphere. Outgoing

Dr. Bill Parrish —
An Outside Perspective
Dr. Bill Parrish, Purple Legionnaire of the Sigma Mu Chapter,
came to MSU in the fall of 1978 from Westminster College in
Fulton, Missouri. At Westminster he was initiated into the Phi Mu
Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. He became a chapter advisor there
and remained until he moved here. Brother Bill holds a BS degree
from Westminster and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University
of Missouri. Dr.Parrish and his wife, Helen Sue, have two children,
Ann and Bill. His hobbies include collecting picture post cards, and
gathering football statistics. Dr. Parrish stated that since all the rest
of the Chapter Advisors are alumni of MSU, he feels that he gives
an "outside perspective" to the chapter. He feels that Phi Gamma
Delta is Number One on campus, and must work hard to keep it
there. Brother Bill works hard for the Sigma Mu Chapter, and we
appreciate him.
