The beginning of the Alpha Iota

from the Noit Avarts. The society of
Noit Avarts was organized in the
spring of 1897 by the men of three
mixed tables at Cavell's Hall. The fol

Celebrating 75 Years ofBrotherhood in Phi Gamma Delta
Clare Forrester was born in Fredricksburg, lA, and now
resides in Webster City,lA. Clare has been the oldest brother
returning for the Annual Norris Pig Dinner for the last 12
years. Exemplifying the ideals of loyalty, he is a brother
whom you can always count on to be at the Pig Dinner.
Clare hasn't missed a Pig Dinner that he can remember
since joining the house. In the past, Clare would bring
Edward "Pa" Prince with him to Pig Dinner. Besides being
loyal to the house, he also showed a lot of loyalty to the
university over the years. For instance, he and his wife had
season tickets and attended almost all of the football and
basketball games since World War II up until last year.
Brother Forrester helps celebrate Pig Dinner.
While attending Iowa State, Clare would often go to the
old dairy farms by the Towers with famous ISU football
player. Jack Trice. Clare also witnessed the game in Minne
sota in which Jack Trice died.
Loyalty is also very evident in his marriage. Clare and his
wife. Alma, celebrated their 69th anniversary on June 4,
1997. They have a daughter, Helen Schnabel, who lives in
Engelwood, CO, with her husband, son and daughter. Clare
and Alma's son, Roger, reside in Murphys, CA, with his
wife and three sons. Roger graduated from Iowa State in
1954 and is also a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta. Red
Forrester definitely proves that Phi Gamma Delta is not for
college days alone.
