Iota
Captures
Cup!
On Saturday February 6, 1993, the Iota
Sigma Chapter was named the best Phi
Gamma Delta chapter in the State of
Indiana. The award was presented to the
chapter at an award luncheon hosted by
the Beta Graduate Chapter in Indianapolis,
Indicina. Fifteen brothers were on hand to
accept the awcird.
The Beta Cup is awarded annually by the
Beta Graduate Chapter to the chapter in
Indicina which best exemplifies excellence
in the arecis of scholarship, rush, socid
service, graduate relations, cind intrcimurcd
participation. The judges also look for a
chapter that has a high degree of
brotherhood. In order to be eligible for the
awcird, the chapter must submit a report to
the Beta Graduate Chapter documenting
the chapter's efforts in these five areas.
As winners, the Iota Sigma chapter wili
keep the Beta Cup, a large silver bowl, on
display at the chapter house for the next
year. This year marks the first yecir that the
chapter has ever won the award, and
Indicina State was the only chapter in the
state which had not won the awcird which
has been presented since the early 1940's.
The Beta Cup, along with a copy of the
winning report will be on display at Pig
Dinner for those who cire able to attend.
\r\nPig Dinner Flans Finalized
The Pig Dinner committee ofMattWhitney, Kevin Fleetwood, Keith Pittman and Joe Weist have finalized plans for Pig
Dinner '93. The schedule and reservation forms are included. The cost ofthe weekend will be $25.00 per graduate brother.
This cost will coverthe dinner, a graduatedirectory (similar to the onefrom last year), and use of the hospitality suite.
Please do not pay until the night ofthe dinner.
The featured speaker ofthe evening will be Stanley M Hendrix II, class of 1975, and Master of Ceremonies will be Bill
Cole, class of 1991. The dinner will take place in the Chestnut Room ofthe Holiday Irmon the south end of Terre Haute.
For those who attendedlast year's crowded dinner, space will be no problemthis year as the Chestnut Room can
comfortably hold at least 200 people. The dinner will be buffet styleso that therewill not be the problem of the long wait
this year, and you can go back for additional servings.
However, we need a precise count before the eveningofthe dinner, so it is important that youfill out the enclosedform
and mail it back to the house as soon as possible. If you are reserving a room, please carefully fill out the form and return
it with your check made payableto Iota Sigma. (The HolidayInn prefers that we reservethe rooms, but they will be in
your name). If you are reserving a double, pleaseindicate whoyou willbe with, and pay the entire amountwith the form.
Ifyou have any questions about filling out the form, call the houseat 812-235-1289 and ask for Matt Whitney or Kevin
Fleetwood or call Joe Weist at 812-235-3546 and leave a message on his machine.
If you cannot attend, please return the form so indicatingso that we can verify that we have the correct address for you. We
want the Graduate Directory that we are printing to be as accurate as possible. We look forward to receiving your
reservation and seeing you at the dinner.
House Improvements Continue
Thanks go out to the Brothers who have continued to make donations to the "building fund" for the house. Recently we
finished remodeling the second room upstairs. The walls were repaired, the ceilingplastered, and new trim put aroimd the
windows. A fresh coat of paint and new carpeting made the room look great! Also we have put "new" doors on the
penthouse bathroom, and the basement meeting room. The old doors were a disgrace, and the new doors are much nicer.

Dear Brothers,
Well, we finally did it! The chapter has received recognition from an objective source with our win of the 1993
Beta Cup Award. The chapter did not think they had a shot at the award, but I knew the things that we are
doing here in Terre Haute would give us a good chance at the award. Our next goal will be national recogni
tion this summer at Academy.
The brothers are ecstatic about winning the award. To finish ahead of chapters such as Indiana University and
Wabash is something of which to be proud. If you have a few moments, and would like to drop the chapter a
congratulatory note, I am sure that they would appreciate it
Well Pig Dinner is rapidly approaching. With the win of the Beta Cup, a good Pig Dinner is going to be even
that much better. We have already heard from several of you that you plan to attend the weekend. For those
who missed last year and heard how good of a time you missed, this year will be better!
We plan to make Pig Dinner a weekend, not just a dinner. The weekend will start off with a meeting Friday
night to discuss where the chapter is, and where it is going. On Saturday the Hospitality Suite will be open
during the day at the Holiday Inn. That afternoon, the Tau Iota Foundation will hold its Annual Meeting and
elections. The cash bar will open at 6:00 pm, with dinner at 7:00 pm. On Sunday there will be a farewell
brunch at 11:00 am at the house.
I have received a couple donations to help with the expenses of the Hospitality Suite. This suite will be open
for all graduates on Saturday, and will be under my name because of Risk Management concerns. (My insur
1 ance coverage is better). If you would like to make a donation to the room, please send the check to me at the
above address. Make the check payable to Iota Sigma.
Well I hope that we hear from you soon, and I look forward to seeing all of you in the very near future.
Fraternally,
JoefWeist
