President's Report...
Usually it is very difficult for the un
dergraduate President to relay the
tone of the chapter to the graduate
brothers. Often, the graduate hears
the same comments and that things

are going to get better. Without facts which de
monstrate "real" progress, reluctance to support
the chapter continues.
Now, after a strong fall semester and many long
hours of work the undergraduate chapter is proud
to reveal some of its accomplishments.
First, under the supervision of Pledge Trainer
Gary Voyda, Chi lota recently initiated 21 top-qual
ity men into our chapter. This class marks the
largest initiate class in over two decades. Rush
Chairman Mike Lee and Tom Quinn already have
five prospective pledges for this spring, along with

Illinois' previously unbeaten mark at the Rose
Bowl was no more after the UCLA Bruins got hold
of the lllini on January 2nd. Thousands of loyal IIHni
trekked across the country, including over 20 Phi
Gams, to witness the humiliating defeat.
Old brothers were re-united as John Sullivan '82
and Todd Montgomery '82, Mike Bruhns '82 and
Greg Bishop '83 opened their apartments for the
Chi lota brothers. Graduate brothers Owen Ackerman '59 and Jim Mack '79 were in attendance at
the New Year's party at the Hyatt. Brother Doug
Walker '82 flew in from Texas and reported he
plans to move back to Illinois in the near future.
B.C.A. member Penn Nelson (Minn. '57) was
quoted, "Sowhat if we lost, itcould take Minnesota
50 years to get here the way they've played." All
in all, no one could complain about the weather
and good times in Southern California.
several other interested rushees.
Secondly, Treasurer Tom Klimmeck and our new
accountant Judith Holloway have made an unbe
lievable turnaround with the operating budget. The
budget which had accumulated approximately a
$13,000 deficit was in the black this fall. With our
new accounting system we hope to continue to
stay on top with the finances.
Also, many positive ideas developed in the pub
lic relations area. Vice-President Stu Oswald coor
dinated a successful toy drive and Christmas party
for the underprivileged children at the local Carrol
Center. The house also began a Sunday brunch
program. At one, the entire BCA and their wives
attended. Future brunches will include faculty
members, local alums, and sororities. Finally, I
would like to thank the rest of the cabinet: Seniors
Don Graham, Corresponding Sec.; TimDoody, Re
cording Sec.; Dennis McNamee, Historian. These
officers did a tremendous job and without their

In closing, I hope that many of

you would like a directory or not
please repond so that the Chi lota
