1 know there are easier volunteer opportunities
that don't require training or the patience and
skills necessary to work with children, especially
th^ high number of children with special needs
that take A Break serves.1 think it says a-lot about
the members of your fraternity that they would
take on such a challenging volunteer experience.
The financial support and volunteer work your
house members have donated to Take A Break
have made a majbr impact on the lives of over 200
families right here in Lincoln. Many of these par
ents and care givers have nobody with whom
they can share the parenting responsibilities. For
many of them, the Take A Break program serves
as their only break and chance to recharge away
from the children. They can all take comfort in
knowing that while they take a few hours for
themselves, their children are being cared for and
nurtured in a safe, fun and healthy environment.
Phi Gamma Delta contributed so much to creat
ing that environment for the children.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and
program participants of the YWCA,I thank you
again for all that Phi Gamma Delta has done for
the Takq A Break program.
Sincerely,
Connie Benjamin

Memo from the house corporation
Greetings, Brothers, from your Lambda Nu House Corporation! An
other school year has passed. The undergrads are starting summer rush,
looking for a pledge class of 30+ fine young men who appreciate the
values of Phi Gamma Delta and will aid in carrying them forward.
Remember, your rush recommendations are appreciated and there still
is time to submit names of prospects for the new pledge class.
FYI-The capacity of the Fiji Hut is 69. Today's house bill is $3,600
annually ($400 a month for nine months). This is the same cost as the
annual UNL dormitory contract; it is slightly higher than the average
UNL fraternity house bill.
This past fall, the boiler(installed in 1964) was replaced at a cost of just
over $20,000.The House Corporation wishes to actmowledge and thank
The Wentz Family, and Tom Colvin,'70 for their invaluable assistance
with this major project. We also spent $5,500 for roof repairs. Our
immediate goals for this summer involve correcting some Housing
Code and Life Safety (fire) Code deficiencies ai the chapter house,
including: automatic closures on room and corridor doors; replacing
some non^omplying doors with solid core doors; and installing emer
gency lighting.
s We have one of the finest fraternity structures on the UNL campus,
with beautifully furnished common areas. We all should be proud of it.
The House Corporation, the Board of Chapter Advisers ancT the Purple
