Brothers,
Brothers,
In my final correspondence with you as
President of Gamma Deuteron I would like to thank all
graduate brothers who have supported the house and all
current members who have worked and cooperated
with me over the last year. The sacrifices,
contributions and hard work we have put forth has
resulted in a strong house, one that you can return to
with pride and one that we can truly call the best on
campus.
The office of President is not always a smooth
road to ride. I thank all my fellow officers and
chairmen who with their patience and dedication
helped make our term in office a successful one. This
success can be seen in our accomplishments in our four
goals: 1)Rush 2)Graduate Relations 3)Scholarship
and 4)Campus and Community.
Hearing the end of my term as treasurer, 1 can
now look back at my experiences here at Knox, both as
a student and as a Fiji, and reflect on both positive and
negative events and how they helped me to grow.
Recent highlights have to be last year's pledge
class of twelve, and receiving a John Templeton
McCarty Proficiency Award for the third year.
The house finances have been improving.
Our goal is to always have a full house, and with high
expectations for our rush program to provide another
impressive pledge class. We are looking forward to
another significant increase in membership. This year
efforts began to create an active house fund-raising
plan to contribute toward paying off the remainder of
the renovation loan. We have raised $2,600.00 to date.
commitment to the ideals and foundations ofPhi
With the Betas suspended for the year, we aim
to have a pledge class of at least 20. We have already
started planning activities for this year's rush period,
and are looking forward to pledging another first-class
group of men this winter. As an added incentive to
increasing our chapter size. President Rick Nahm has

This is the first issue of the G.D. Fiji this year.
I hope that all of you will read it and give us feedback
on what you think of it. It is my sincere hope that
through your input, the G.D. Fiji will continue to
improve and become one of the finest newsletters in the
capacity next year. We will meet this challenge!
In closing, even though I am graduating this
year, I can leave with eonfidenee that the next slate of
officers and chairmen will continue to improve the
chapter and will surpass the achievements made by the
class of '95. 1 especially encourage them to continue in
Our chapter again received the John
Templeton McCarty Award for Chapter Proficiency.
This is the third year in a row that our chapter has
received this award and it demonstrates our
land.
In our efforts to improve our scholarship, the
house has implemented mandatory study sessions twice
a week. Our new scholarship chair has also set up a
system where brothers who have already had a class
can now tutor those who are now taking the class.
We have also continued to remain active on
our efforts to bring graduate brothers and current
actives closer. 1 can say with confidence that they will
continue to work hard and you will hear from them
often. As graduates, I hope you will share your insight
and wisdom with them, and let them know when you
like or don't like activities of the chapter.

newspaper, and other clubs and activities around
campus. This past year we held our traditional Easter
Egg Hunt, our Chariot Pull for Multiple Sclerosis, and
had brothers help out at Knox County Daycare.
It has been an honor to serve as President, and
it is an experience I will hold onto for the rest of my
life. I wish success to the newly elected officers, and I
know that they will preserve and build upon the great
traditions of Phi Gamma Delta.
Fraternally,

Fund-raiser Information
The newly renovated Fiji House has given the Knox Phi Gams a new sense of unity,
strength and pride on the Knox Campus. It is a source of dignity for the active brothers and
graduate brothers alike. The house stands as a monument to Fiji glory, renewing the confidence
and spirit ofthe actives and ofthe visiting alumni.
Because the renovation costs are not all paid for yet, the current residents ofthe Fiji
(castle) house are offering graduate brothers the chance to become a permanent part ofthe new
era ofthe Fiji legacy at Knox.
By donating a minimum of$200 a graduate can have his name and class engraved on a
12x8x4 inch brick that will permanently stand at the entrance ofthe house. Your name and class
will be forever remembered as legions offuture Phi Gams step through the portals ofthis house
and tread on bricks celebrating your dedication to Phi Gamma Delta.
To purchase a commemorative brick, enclose your check written to Phi Gamma Delta for
$200.00, or more, with the order form found elsewhere in this issue and send it back to Phi
Gamma Delta, 218 South Cedar, Galesburg, IL 61401. If you have any questions contact Scott

\r\nKnox College "Purple Haze" Lacrosse
This past spring seven brothers played on the Knox
Lacrosse Club team. The team was quite good and
had a final record of 6-3. Two of the biggest wins
came from defeating Iowa in Iowa City and coming
from behind to upset Eastern Illinois University at the
Illinois State Tourney. When the season resumes in
winter you can count on the FlJl's being there in force
to once again conquer all opponents.
And The Winner Is...
November first was the day, seven o'clock was the hour, and the brothers of Phi
Gamma Delta patiently waited for the election to begin. The nominees sat motionless
reading and re-reading their speeches. The election for the new officers began with
president and worked its way down. "This was the best election I have seen, all the
candidates were so qualified," murmured senior John Doke. When the meeting was over,
the new positions were declared; David Gault became president, Scott Goldstein became
treasurer, Shawn Wilson became recording secretary, Larry Cloos became corresponding
secretary, and Bill Koc became historian. Congratulations to all the new officers. The
future of Phi Gamma Delta looks very bright for the Gamma Deuteron chapter at Knox
College.
