\r\nPresident's
Message
1987 promises
to be an excellent
year for Rho Alpha. First, the new
cabinet was installed on December 7
(no, just because the installation
was Pearl Harbor Day, it is not an
omen of bad things to come!!!).
The new officers are: President,
Jim Burlant '88; Treasurer, Colin
Winchester '89; Recording Secretary,
Lin Leftwich '88; Corresponding
Secretary, Scott Giffin '90; and
Historian, Matt Holland '89. I can
tell you that these men are really
enthused about helping the chapter
by doing their jobs efficiently.
(Scott Giffin, who is also the newsletter editor, told me to write this
immediately after I was installed.
What's more is that he gave me the
same evening as the deadline. Now
that's efficiency!!!)
Under the new Cabinet, the
Chapter can only improve. Scholarship will once again be a high priority; I'm sure that the trophy will
grace our mantle next year. Social
Service will be upgraded; there will
be a major community service project
by the end of the year. Visibility
will improve, due to a restructured
P.R. committee designed to get our
name around campus. Finally, and
most importantly, rush is, again,
our top priority. The Chapter's
goal is to have a total initiated
membership of 45 by the end of
Spring quater. Overall, the direction the Chapter is taking makes me
say that I'm prouder than ever to be
a Phi Gam!!!
Fraternally,
Jim Burlant '88

Here I am, Peach Bowl bound and
P.L. again till next year. With
more growth in undergraduate and
graduate support, guess that I'll be
busy. With a new Cabinet, I'll give
Jimmy B. and company all I can. My
goals include: l)more administrative
organization, 2)establish a semiannual newsletter to undergrad
parents from the P.L., and 3)keep
graduates involved. If you ever want
to contribute or know anything, give
me a call.
Rush in January is very important.
The chapter has several good prospects. Fifteen pledges for Winter
quarter is not out of reach. Also,
there wil be a BCA/House Corp. meeting on Saturday, January 17. Please
come with some new ideas—I will.
Lastly, to my best friend and
great fraternity brother, all the
best and congratulations on finally
graduating. You've been "some great
glue," Dana Hesse.
Prediction:
Va. Tech - 17
N. C. State - 13

Pig Dinner
The 15th Norris Pig Dinner and
Charter Brother Reunion will be on
May 2, 1987 at the Blacksburg
Marriott. The cost will be $25 per
person. Fifteen rooms are reserved
for Friday night and thirty rooms are
reserved for Saturday night. For
reservations, call the Blacksburg
Marriott at (703)552-7001. Tell them
that you are with Phi Gamma Delta to
receive the group discount.
\r\nHouse Corp.
During the past year, the House
Corporation has raised $10,500 from
he sale of bonds. The chapter has
-spent $3,000 of the $10,500 on such
needed house repairs as electrical
work for the upstairs and the painting of the shutters and the trim.
We are now $2,000 short for the
balloon mortgage payment which is
due in August 1987. So, BUY BONDS!
