A GIANT SUCCESS!
November 1. 1986, was a big day m Tucson as the University
of Arizona Wildcats prepared to take on rival U.S.C. on
BAKER CUP
homecoming day. Varioris activities were planned for graduate
brothers and they were successful , with a large graduate
turnout.
The Baker Cup Committee has been hard at work this
semester, with 12 planned philanthropies. We have
organized events such as a Halloween party for Casa de
The morning activity was an open house cocktaimarty. About
125 graduates attended, including Prg^ H&wrdon ('19). the
oldest l iving Upsilon Alpha member The pledge class of 1961
had an outstanding turnout for their 25th reunion; over 30
brothers made their apfrearance
From the open house it was off to the parade and then the
game. Even though the 'Cats lost to the Trojans, spirits were stil l
high and the night festivities at our own private lounge at the
downtown Holiday Inn went wel l

the Special Olympics bowling tournaments and supports
the l\/larch of Dimes. We also held an invitational volleybal l
tournament with al l proceeds going to the Make-A-Wish
Foundation. The drive to help others at Upsilon Alpha is
going strongi

On October 22. in front of an estimated 1000 people. Fiji
A-team soundly defeated Sigma Phi Epsilon to win the Cactus
League Footbal l Championship. Fiji also entered three other
teams in the Desert Division: the Fiji Rejects. Fiji Pledges, and
Purple Haze.
Purple Haze was eliminated from the playoffs m the quarter
finals round. The Pledge team was eliminated by the Reject
teaminthequarter-finalsoftheothei division. The Reject team
continued to win and they achieved a spot in the finals where
they were narrowly defeated in a close game
The Desert League has over 140 teams so it is obvious that
the Fiji's are sti l l a powerhouse on the Intramural field as wel l as
in other aspects of campus l ife.
SPECIAL NOTE: The Fiji Pledge Team kept upthewinning
tradition by beating the ASU Fiji Pledge Team, prior to the ASU

We believe the lour brothers aie tleft to right).
Vin Ciruzzi ('50): Vin is a past officer and is curiently either
director of Sports Centei in San Diego or involved in the Sears

\r\nBROTHERS: As you know, the communication between Upsilon Alpha and the alumni has been far from
adequate in recent years. Therefore, we are inserting this questionnaire to better our relationship by learning
more about each of you and what you are now doing. Please assist us in our effort, by filling out this form and
returning it to us. Hopefully the next "Campanilla" can include everyone.

Graduate Relations
Over the past few years, interest in
Graduate Relations has fallen off a bit,
except for the activity surrounding
Homecoming and Pig Dinner. This
semester, however, the Graduate Rela
tions Committee is starting afresh to
increase graduate involvement here at
Upsilon Alpha.
Every Tuesday night is Guest Speaker
night. With this, we invite graduates in
the Tucson area to join us for dinner and
become acquainted with the undergrad
uate brothers. We are also planning one
or two graduate dinners this semester
for our graduate chapter here in Tucson.
We know how formal and stuffy these
types of functions can sometimes be, so
on November 22, before the ASU game,
grads were invited over for beer and
food. This sort of atmosphere provided a
casual, relaxed setting for us to get to
know some of the grads.
We are also enlisting the services of a
publishing company to compile an upto-date directory of all living brothers of
Upsilon Alpha. We would appreciate
your financial support in this venture;
you will receive more information later.
Not for College Days alone!
PERGE!

t.
Judging by the presence of John Marietti("61)(5th from right, bottom row), we believe the photo was probably taken
in 1956 when the house won the Cheney Cup.(John Marietti's son. Steve, is the current house Historian and bears a
striking resemblance.) Any corrections or response from alumni would be appreciated!
