Jerold Wanek: Man, Myth, Legend
Former Delta Iota Chapter Purple Legionnaire will soon assume the post of
Trustee of the Phi Gamma Delta Educational Foundation. DIA takes a look at
Wanek's Phi Gam leadership experiences from the college days to the present.
Jerold Wanek (Iowa '80) announced in
September that he would leave his post to
become a Trustee of the Phi Gamma
Delta Educational Foundation. Wanek left
the position of PL after approximately
three years of service.
"I will always look upon the three years
I spent as PL of Drake as the most
rewarding for me in my Phi Gamma Delta
experience," said Wanek. "I feel the new
opportunity with the foundation will pro
vide for me a greater opportunity to learn
more about the international fraternity."
Wanek was an instrumental player in
bringing a chapter of the fraternity to
Drake in 1993, following a failed attempt
a few years prior.
"It is hard to lose such a great person as
PL, but this is a great opportunity for him
and President of the Mu Deuteron
Chapter. Wanek served as Section Chief
for three years, serving Iowa, Iowa State
and Nebraska Universities.
Today Wanek is well known in the inter
national scope of the fraternity, serving as
parliamentarian of the last three Ekklesia.
"Jerry was instrumental in the founding
and development of the Delta Iota
Chapter at Drake," said Fred Stines (Iowa
'49). "He was one of the key graduate
founders."
Wanek currently is a partner of the
Garten and Wanek Legal Firm in Des
Moines. He and his firm have made
and we are behind him," said President

Steve Carlson.

DES MOINES - The talks over
the future home of the Delta Iota

the House Corporation Board's
agenda.

and possible purchase of the

would be preferable to an immedi

Last summer, my friend Louis came up
with this idea that he wanted to take a
small group of his closest friends with
him to the Boundary Waters in Minnesota
for a canoeing trip. I sent in my deposit,
and was ready to go.
The day in August finally came and
