Regional Academy
10 Theta Tau brothers attended the Regional Leadership Academy in
February (including 5 of the newly initiated brothers). Led by our Chapter Advisor
Tony Marable (two-time Crowder Cup winner!), the chapter received a great
boost in morale and dedication from these brothers. The retreat was held at Lake
Tiak- -o'Khata near Louisville, Mississippi. Brothers who gave up a weekend of
studying to improve themselves and the chapter were: Tom Caldwell, Keith
Edmondson, Kelly Irvin, Jeremy Jenkins, Gary Mitchell, Jon Nease, Mark
Redferrin, Chris Rogers, Richard Suttles, and Jerry Turney. Plans.are being
~ made to attend this summers Fiji Academy.
House Improvements
| Spearheaded by Dewayne Coffey, John
Rector, and Lee Wray, construction has begun on the Fraternity House. By Pig
Dinner, the new roofing and siding should be complete, with more improvements
to follow. The chapter is very enthused and urge all graduates to come and see
the "new" house. Hal Balthrop has joined with the above graduates to reform and
recreate TFI. Meeting biweekly, they are working closely with the chapter to focus
our efforts.
\r\nScholarship Update
The chapter is making a concerted push to further improve our standings.
Brothers were third overall in fraternity scholarship, and we are committed to
improve our scholarship. Brothers are holding each other accountable through
posted QPA goals and weekly brag lists. New Chairman Gary Mitchell has been
updating the chapters filing system, and focusing our efforts through Study Skills
seminars held at the house. Dr. Kranz of the counseling center has held two
sessions at the house recently, with good turnout among the pledges and
brothers. Weekly "Quiet Hours" have been installed at the house from 6 to 9 p.m.
Mondays thru Thursdays to facilitate studying.
Brothers,
Greetings from Theta Tau! My name is Richard Suttles and | am the
Service Chairman for 1995. | am sending you this update to let you know where
the chapter stands in terms of service.
As you know, service is an area where Phi Gams have always excelled,
and the past year has been no different. We started the year with the Annual Fiji
Island Week, during which we raised over $1,000 for Multiple Sclerosis as well as
$3,000 gained from the largest Armory party in Cookeville's history. The fraternity
also held a canned food drive in October in which 2000+ cans of food were
donated to the Cookeville Rescue Mission. We also collected meal ticket
punches from students on campus to serve almost 250 Christmas meals to needy
families in the community, and we've cleaned our "Adopt-a-Highway" three times
so far this year. E
On March 2, we held another Armory party with the "Velcro.Pygmies". in
conjunction with KICKS 106.9 radio. Actual funds raised are unknown at the time
of this letter, but the money raised will be going to Multiple Sclerosis.
! hope this little update has in some way lifted your spirits and given some
insight to how well our brothers, your brothers, are supporting the community. Be
good to yourselves and | hope to see you all soon at Pig Dinner.
Sincerely,
Richard Suttles
