Homecoming '95 will
be celebrated on October 27th

ing will be the five Army
Generals who are TTU alums.
And this year the Fiji
Kazoo band will be marking
their 17th consecutive ap-
pearance in the parade. (The
GEFiji would like to know
who to credit with the cre-
ation of the Kazoo Band. If
you know, drop us a line.)

$2,000
for MS
The 2nd annual Fiji
Island Week held September 18
-21 raised $2,000 for the Mul-
tiple Sclerosis Society.
Six sororities and five
fraternities participated in the
week of activities. Over 150
Greeks were in attendance at
the house each night Monday
through Wednesday and over
1,200 students attended the
band concert at the Armory on
Thursday night featuring the
Velcro Pygmies.
Each night's activities
featured different competitions
between the groups. All
activities had an "island" theme
and included -- "Love Boat"
skits, ‘beach ball" relay, limbo
contest, tug-of-war, and hula-
hoop contest.
The money raised will
go to benefit multiple sclerosis
research and patients from the
Middle Tennessee area. Q

House Gets $32,000 in Improvements
D REAMS sometimes
take a while to become reality.
But with persistence, they can
be seen through. And so it
has been with the recent
improvements to the Chapter
House.
Over three years ago
discussion began about putting
vinyl siding and a new roof on
the house. Various fund-raising
efforts were made, and although
they were somewhat successful,
not enough money was raised to
pay for the improvements that
were needed.
In fact, just over a year
ago the house had reached such
a state of disrepair that the
ceiling in the apartment was
completely ruined from leaks
that during major rain storms
become small replicas of Burgess
Falls.
The original wood siding
from 1940, with its layers and
layers of paint, had begun to fall
off the house.
In the fall of 1994, the
house corporation, Tech Fijis,
Inc. (TFI) was reestablished with
a board made up of Dewayne
Coffey, Bill Greer, John Rector,
and Lee Wray.
TFI immediately went to
work preparing lists of house
needs and gathering cost esti-
mates. Because of the immedi-
ate needs, the Board voted to
apply for a second mortgage
from International Headquar-
ters. *
The loan was approved
and repairs and improvements
began. The house and the
apartment have been reroofed
and they both have vinyl siding
covering the old wood siding.
Other improvements
include new carpet in the apart-
ment and the upstairs bed-
rooms; new outside security
lighting; the rewiring of all
cable and phone lines; wiring of
a house sound system with
indoor and outdoor speakers;
remodeling of the kitchen; and
a wood fence along Peachtree.
There are still a number
of improvements to be com-
pleted: remodeling of the
upstairs hallway, including the
enclosing of the heating and AC
ductwork; repairs to the ceiling
in the apartment; repairs to
other ceilings; and a wood deck
to be built off the patio. All
improvements should be com-
pleted by the 15th Anniversary
Pig Dinner in April. Q
