Lambda FIJI during the spring of 1930.
Joe only attended DePauw for about

an Alpha Chi Omega at DePauw,
Marjorie Holcomb and they celebrated
their 52nd wedding anniversary

Graduate Spotlight
In 1974 Mark Frazer left Middletown, Ohio to enroll as a freshman at
DePauw University. This past July,
eleven years later, he returned to that
city as Dr. Mark Frazer.
Mark is a 1978 graduate of Lambda
chapter, and during his active membership as a Phi Garn he served two
consecutive terms as chapter treasurer
(1976-77 and 1977-78). However,
Brother Frazer's activities were not
limited to the fraternity. He was a four
year letterman in varsity football for the
DePauw Tigers.
Upon graduation Mark enrolled in
the University of Cincinnati's
Spring 1986
College of Medicine, from which he
received his degree in 1982. After a
three year residency at St. Elizabeth
Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio, he
opened a solo family practice in
Middletown this past summer.
Mark and his wife, Vicki, are expecting an addition to their family
in June of this year; and they are
already the proud parents of a 22
month-old daughter, Meghan. The
Frazers are actively involved with the
First United Methodist Church; and
Mark, also, serves as team physician
for the Middletown High School
"Middies" football team.
However, Mark has certainly not
forgotten the role which Phi Gamma
Delta played in his life.
"The fraternity provides you with
the unique opportunity to learn to
live with multiple personalities, and
these are people you ordinarily would
not even have the opportunity to
meet," said Frazer, adding that the
fraternity greatly enhances one's ability
to get along with other people - a vital
necessity in life.
Brother Frazer is currently a member of the International Fraternity's
Charters Committee, of which he has
been a member since his senior year a,t
Lambda chapter.
"Basically we review all requests
for new charters. When a university
or college makes a request for Phi
Gamma Delta to establish a chapter
on their campus the fraternity sends
a Field Secretary to review the situation.
The reports and materials he gathers
are sent to the committee, and we make
a recommendation as to whether or not
to establish a new chapter," explained
Frazer. He noted that after a probationary period the committee

Senior Spotlight
Phillip Alan Thomas, Severna Park, MD
Brother Phil Thomas is far from
the typical music major one might
expect to find at a private midwestern
university such as DePauw. Phil's list of
accomplishments in the music world
are varied and impressive. Before
coming to DePauw from Severna Park,
Maryland, Phil had been the first chair
trumpet in the Maryland All-State
Orchestra. While still in high school,
he had also been a member of the
"Annapolis Quadrabrass", a professional brass quartet.
At DePauw, Phil immersed himself
in the various musical groups on
campus. He has been in the jazz
ensemble, orchestra, and marching
band. Phil also toured the midwest
during Winter Term 1985 with the
DePauw Chamber Symphony. He has
not onlY. played in the orchestra pit for
various campus musicals, but can often
be seen on the stage in a dramatic,
musical, or directing role. Though this
senior has kept himself busy in the
musical ensembles and productions at
DePauw in his years here, he has also
become active in the symphonies of
many major neighboring cities. He
played ·with the "Musicians of the
Cloister", a professional chamber
symphony in Indianapolis. And most
recently, when a rarely offered chance
for an audition with the Terre Haute
Symphony became available, Phil
jumped at the opportunity to join this
distinguished semi-professional group.
Despite tough competition, Phil landed
the spot. He is now performing with
the symphony on a regular basis. This
requires considerable commuting from
Greencastle to Terre Haute for rehearsals and concerts. It is worth it to Phil
though, as he says, "Being in the Terre
Haute Symphony is the first step in
accomplishing my dream. My ultimate
goal is to play full time for a professional symphony."
With all of these accomplishments,
Phil has not neglected his duties to our
fine fraternity. He has been involved
with various committees and intramural sports. And, as current undergraduates would attest, meals just
won't be the same at Lambda next year
without Phil's faithful service as a
waiter. He has been a waiter here for
four years. Any graduate brother who
might have waited back at DePauw can
certainly appreciate this kind of
dedication! We at Lambda are proud to
call Phil "brother", and we certainly
have confidence that he will achieve all
of his goals.

Lambdian DPU
Athletics
Lambda is proud to boast their
captains of the DPU soccer and swim
teams. Junior, David Holub of Cincinnat~ OH, led DePauw's soccer team to a
good record. He was also named
captain of next years team, MVP, allarea, all-state, all-conference, and
2nd team all-region. Also joining Dave
on the soccer team were freshmen:
Pete Young, Mark Willmert, and Phil
Ratz er.
As captain of the DPU men's swim
team George Huggins, senior FIJI, has
led the tiger swimmers, including
seven other FIJis: Tim Riehle, Todd
Rumsey, Tad Krafft, Curt Ward, Brian
Thornburg, Ken Kolosh, and Scott
Pritchard; to an outstanding season.
They just concluded their season
swimming with great times at the
Liberal Arts Invitational meet. Bill
Davis had an outstanding season on the
DePauw cross country team this past
fall.
New Cabinet Elected
December 3, 1985 marked a significant event at Lambda; a new cabinet
was elected. They begin administrative
affairs second semester. After serious
deliberation, junior, Dave Holub, was
elected president. Dave is a member
and next year's captain of the varsity
soccer team, as well as, being past
scholarship chairman. Sophomore,
Brooks Murphy, was chosen as treasurer after serving this past semester
as house manager. Matt Quirk, a
member of last years little 500 championship bike team, was chosen as
recording secretary. Sophomore, Bill
Davis, and junior, Joe Short, round out
the new cabinet as corresponding
secretary and historian, respectively.
Bill and Joe also serve as co-rush chairmen. Goals of new cabinet include
improving relations with the university
and graduates, in addition to moving
up in IM and academic standings. The
cabinet is excited and anxious to work
to improve Lambda and is open to any
suggestions by our graduate brothers.

"Phi Gamma Delta is not for college
days alone." This phrase is often used
in connection with graduate relations.
For some it is only a phrase. For others
it .has deep meaning: it stands for the
benefits of graduate support and involvement both from the chapter's and
a personal viewpoint.
Since my graduation I have realized
the importance of graduate support
and involvement and have seen the
benefits, both here at Lambda and at
other institutions. Many times the
undergraduates face similar problems
that graduates also faced. In these
situations the graduate can advise on
how best to handle the situation.
Achievement by the chapter and great
chapter tone is attributable to having
graduates around and involved: they
have a positive influence on all aspects
of the chapter making achievement
possible and much easier. However,
the greatest benefit that is derived by
the chapter is having someone around
to act as a sounding board for their
ideas.
The reasons why FIJis continue to
be involved in the fraternity after
graduation are many. For some,
though, it is the sense of service to
others that they learned from Phi
Gamma Delta during their college
experience. But whatever the reason
they are involved through periodic
