Epsilon's Attorney General Always Had Special Intensity
By Jim Sessoms '76
When Mike Easley left
Chapel Hill in 1972, many
of his brothers at Epsilon
figured they would hear
from him again in a big way.
His intensity and restlessness
signaled that he had some
thing special.
That day has come many
times over. Mike, a Rocky

Zebulon Vance Society Established
Remember Tour Fraternity with a Bequest
"Brothers who have included Epsilon in their estate plans
have made a thoughtful gesture toward the fraternity,"
said Marvin Carver '75, president of the Board of Chapter
Advisers. "It's an important way for graduate brothers to
support Epsilon in the future. And since Zeb Vance left us
a legacy of greatness, we thought it proper to honor those
brothers who leave Epsilon a legacy as well."
Organizations across the country have recognized the
value of bequests from their loyal members. After much
research on this subject, the House Corporation has
announced the creation of the Zebulon Vance Society, an
honorary society for loyal brothers who have remembered
Epsilon in their respective wills.
"While the House Corporation can't provide legal
counsel in estate planning techniques, we can promote the
idea that a simple bequest of putting Epsilon in your will is
a method ofsupporting the fraternity in an important
way," said House Corporation President Tom Nisbet '70.
"Of course, every brother should look after the future
needs of his spouse, his family and his favorite charities,
but I believe most of us would like to remember the place
where we made our best friends in life."
To qualify for the Zebulon Vance Society, brothers
need only remember Epsilon in their will, and report this
fact to the House Corporation. In return, each Zebulon
Vance Society member will receive a beautiful print of
Epsilon's coat of arms, a distinctive lapel pin, and special
recognition in the Epsilon Owl and at the annual Norris
Pig Dinner.
You can include Epsilon in your will with only a
minimal amount of wording. All that is necessary is the
language to include the correct legal name and address of
the fraternity.
A simple example of an outright bequest would be: "I
give, devise, and bequeath to Epsilon of Phi Gamma
Delta, Inc., located at 108 West Cameron Avenue, Chapel
Hill, NC 27514, the sum of
dollars (or,
percent
of my estate)(to be used to establish a scholarship.
Chapter House improvement, etc.)."
Using this simple language can greatly reduce the
potential for legal disputes during probate. This language
can be shared with your attorney should you be interested
in providing for Epsilon in your estate plans.
We encourage you to contact us if you have any
questions. And, of course, it is important that you consult
with your attorney or financial adviser.
"To those brothers who have already provided for
Epsilon in your estate plans, please let us know," said Tom
Nisbet '70. "You have made a very important commitment
to your fraternity, and we really appreciate your generosity."
