Eventful Weekend
To all our brothers out there, you will be pleased to know that many exciting changes
are going on at the Gamma Phi Chapter. The fall semester has been one of exceptional
growth for us.
We started off the year making many improvements to the Lodge, including adding some
beautiful landscaping. From there we leaped into rush, landing 15 men, who are all quickly
nearing initiation. This strong pledge class coupled with our large class of newly initiated
brothers points to a bright future for this, chapter.

Homecoming week was a busy time
for Phi Gams this year. Fortunately, as
the week went on, everything fell into place.
Getting ready for the parade was hard
work, but it all was worthwhile. Although

team and with help from a terrific effort in golf and racquetball. Our basketball team,
returning all eight players, is the odds-on favorite to take the championship.
In the annual Penn State-Michigan State Blood Drive, the chapter was recognized by the
Red Cross for having over 75 percent of our members donate blood. We were one of three
fraternities, of 56 that had participation of over 25 percent.
As 1995 draws to a close, 1 would like to wish all our brothers and their loved ones a
wonderful holiday. Please stop by and see the new Gamma Phi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta.
We look forward to your visit.
Saturday events kicked off early with a
reception before the game. A House
Corporation meeting was held, focusing on
securing a rising future for Phi Gamma
Delta. Plans for renovations were discussed
along with other Gamma Phi news.

Fall Rush 1995 ... A Breakthrough Year
By Ralston Merchant '98
It is common knowledge in the Greek system that the single most important function
that a chapter house encounters is rush. Rush keeps the house supplied with quality
men, and quality men directly translate into a quality house. Our increase in fine, young
men allows the chapter house to make substantial strides financially, academically,
athletically and socially. The Gamma Phi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta is in a rebuilding
phase. The challenge is to increase our numbers without lowering our standards. There
are no quick fixes. Instead it is a long and steady process.
The fall rush of 1995 proved to be a breakthrough year for our chapter. With the
continued effort and cooperation of the entire brotherhood, our chapter was able to
recruit 15 young men. We are confident that these men will be very capable leaders for
the future of Gamma Phi. The involvement and enthusiasm displayed by the brotherhood
is an encouraging sign for future rushes. Special thanks go to David Sobolak '98 and
James Merkins '98 for their endless hours of effort that helped make the fall rush of 1995
one of the most successful in recent memory.
Having attended a Fiji leadership conference and having been rush chair for fall
1995. 1 have gained valuable experience in the recruitment prnce.ss and am looking
forward to the challenge of future rushes. 1 can assure graduate brothers that we
undergrads will not become complacent with one successful rush. It is our goal at Gamma
Phi to continually recruit more pledges than the campus average and to fill our house to
maximum capacity. With the newfound desire to constantly improve our house and the
involvement of the entire brotherhood, these goals should be reached.
