Kappa Deuteron's thirty-second annual Norris Pig Dinner will be held on March 25*^ at the Georgia Center for
Continuing Education. The dress will be business attire for both graduates and undergraduates. Since this location is
directly across from the Fraternity house, brothers will be responsible for arriving there by 6:00 P.M. The event's sym-
posiarch will be Dr. Sam Richwine Jr. ('73). Moreover, one of Kappa Deuteron's Wilkinson award winners. Ken W.
Murphy ('78), will be the keynote speaker. After dinner, we will walk back to the house for cigars and entertainment
provided by the popular Athens southern rock band Stewart & Winfield. A golf outing is also being planned for Satur
day morning to compliment this year's dinner. If you are interested in playing, please contact Jeff Battaglia at (706)543-9296 or by e-mail at itbattaglia@hotmail.com. It is important we receive your reservation soon so we can reserve
the proper amount of tee times.
The undergraduates are excited about hosting this year's diimer. We have much to be proud of as our domi
nance in academics, athletics, and activities has continued. The chapter is especially proud to display the Orion H.
Cheney Cup for the second year in a row. As usual, this will be a great time to renew old friendships, create new ones,
and celebrate Phi Gamma Delta. See you there!

Kappa Deuteron^s New Pledge Class
Rv.in Bradburn
During this year's Winter Rush, Kappa Deuteron
once again chose only the best men attending the University
of Georgia. Four men were found worthy of adorning the
White Star. The members of the Gamma Tetraton pledge
class are Henry Hefler Jr. of New Orleans, Jacob Massee of
Fitzgerald, Andrew Stakelum of New Orleans, and Emory
Patterson of Valdosta. The new pledge class has an average
SAT score of 1358 and a 3.77 GPA. All members lettered in
sports and excelled in high school. Some of their notable ac
colades include senior class president, first team academic all
state football, best all around senior, best leader in senior
class, and star student.

As Kappa Deuteron moves into a new millennium riding high on the tide oftwo consecutive Cheney Cup victo
ries, it is my pleasure to report that the chapter is in exceptional shape. The overall grade point average for the fall se
mester was a solid 3.08. We have more members on the Dean's List than any other fraternity (21), more Presidential
Scholars (10), and more members vrith a GPA over 3.0 (67). The twenty members of the newly initiated Beta Tetraton
(BA') pledge class matched the brothers with a 3.08 also, which eamed them first place among fraternity pledge classes
on campus. Probably the greatest improvement on past accomplishments came in the arena of community service.
Most prominently, we cemented our flagship fall philanthropy event with the Second Annual Phi Gam Run for the
River. Along with our Gamma Tau brothers at Tech, we raised an astonishing $10,000 for the Upper Chattahoochee
Riverkeeper project. Our continuing involvement with our Partners in Education, Alps Road Elementary School, in
cluded the construction of a wooden deck for an outdoor classroom, as well as volunteering for their Fall Festival and
Homework Helper Program. In these efforts, along with our Adopt-a-Mile and various other campus philanthropies.
Kappa Deuteron totaled nearly 1,500 hours of community service for the fall term.
A primary focus of my cabinet is to preserve our chapter through the fight against the alcohol-free housing ini
tiative. This policy causes more destructive problems than those it attempts to combat. Issues of concern are increasec
risk ofDUI due to the moving of parties to off-campus venues, decreased involvement of upperclass brothers, and limi
tations on graduate events such as football tailgates or Pig Dinners. As the policy stands right now, we will qualify for
a one-time, two-year exemption from the policy, which is set to begin this summer. It is our aim to amend the policy
this summer at the 152""^ Ekklesia in San Antonio, so that either the exemption will become a permanent clause of the
policy, with quahfications for exemption being reviewed every two years, or the policy is abolished altogether. If you
have any questions or concerns over this issue, feel free to contact me at(706) 353-6644 or tludlam@hotmail.com.
The reason for our recent successes is our Brotherhood's intense displeasure with mediocrity, and reasonability
to do what is right. We stand head and shoulders above every other fraternity, but we do not use them as comparison
We strive to actualize our full potential, and we are achieving toward this goal. The willingness of our Brothers to
work hard is immeasurable. I am mighty proud to be a Fiji!

We are proud to be selected as the chairs
for Fall Rush 2000. It is going to be an exciting
spring and summer as we carefully construct the
best pledge class on campus. As usual, recommen
dations are heartily welcomed and appreciated. We
are looking for young men who will be attending
the university of Georgia next fall and who are truly
a "cut above." If you have any recommendations,
please contact any of the following phone numbers
Although the run took place in the freezing
cold and the pouring down rain, the Brothers

ond annual Run for the River. The event raised almost
ten thousand dollars for the Upper Chattahoochee
Riverkeeper because of the support of our graduate
brothers, members of the community, and parents o
the undergraduates. This exceeds last year's total by
five thousand dollars. With the strength of the last
two years, we expect next years Run for the River to
be an even greater success. We would like to extenc
special thanks to Dr. Sam Richwine ('73) who partici
pated in the running ofthe ball.
