Making a difference over 180 Miles
This year was a turning point for the
Rivalry Run. One of the biggest changes
to the event this year was the change
from the American Cancer Society to
the Stefanie Spielman Fund.
Thank you for all the support of those
who attended.
This year because the Ohio State vs.
Michigan game took place over
This year our brothers
had set high expectations by
setting our goal to raise
$10,000. Besides some
critics and doubts we
crushed our goal and raised
over $13,250 thanks to the
generous donations for our
gracious graduate brothers
as well as corporate
sponsors and family
donations.
We presented the check
to the Spielman Fund at the
skull session of the Michigan game.

Thanksgiving weekend, we moved the
running of the ball to the Monday
before the game. Again, our 14 hour 92
mile run that began at midnight when
we received the ball in Findlay was a
success.
We are already beginning to hand
out corporate packets for next year and
brainstorming other ideas for donations.
We would like to once again thank all
graduate brothers, corporate sponsors,
and all those who attended the golf
outing for your wonderful generosity.

LETTER FROM THE OUTGOING PRESIDENT
! It has been an absolute pleasure serving as the Omicron
Deuteron Chapter President for the 2010 calendar year. We have
made many strides towards the advancement of our great fraternity
during my time on cabinet. We improved our GPA by 0.16, won the
Greek Week competition, and also set a new record for funds raised
for our Philanthropy. Though the undergraduate chapter has worked
hard on achieving our goals, none of them could have been attained
without the support of you, our graduate brothers. Without the
help of those who go the extra mile, our brothers serving on BCA,
House Corporation, and our chapter would not be able to achieve
the successes we are so grateful to have. We hope that you continue
to provide us with your support and guidance as well as always hold
us accountable to live up to our name as Phi Gamma Deltas.

LETTER FROM THE INCOMING PRESIDENT
! My name is Niko McMurray
and I am a 4th year Materials
Science and Engineering Major
from Cleveland, OH. On campus I
have been very involved in the
class honorary system starting my
Deuteron Chapter of Phi Gamma
Delta.
!
The previous cabinet did
some amazing things during their
tenure. Our cabinet is looking
forward to building on this
momentum to continue to make
our chapter great. As a cabinet we
really want to increase
communication with the
committee chairs and their
committees. By setting up goals
and staying organized we can
accomplish all of the goals we set
out to do.
!
Specifically, many brothers
are graduating this year so we are
sophomore year as president of
looking to continue to recruit high
Romophos, a member of Bucket
quality men. We also look to
and Dipper, and now as a member expand our relationship with the
of SPHINX. I have also been
Graduate Chapter. Lastly, The
involved in research through my
Rivalry Run was a great success
major and a few other
raising over $13,000 for the
organizations on campus. In FIJI I Stephanie Spielman Fund. We
have worked with Recruitment
hope to continue to make it grow
and Rivalry Run. I now look
by reaching out earlier and putting
forward to taking on the role of
on more campus wide events to
President of the Omicron
increase awareness.
!
! I am always open to hearing
the input of brothers, including
graduate brothers! As I
mentioned, we really want to
increase relationship with the
Graduate Chapter.

2010 HOMECOMING COURT
This years homecoming court included yet
another strong showing of FIJI brothers. Scott
Diamond (2011), Eric Langenderfer (2011), and Niko
McMurray (2012) were three of the 10 men chosen
for Homecoming Court along with 10 women from
the entire student body. This is the 8th year in a row
where at least one brother has been on this select
group of students.
We are very proud of our brothers who took part
in the 2010 Homecoming Court and look forward to
the Fiji brothers that represent our chapter in 2011.
8TH STRAIGHT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS VICTORY
! The Office of Student Life puts on the
"Light Up the Night" competition each
December. Off campus houses and Greek
houses compete to produce the best display of
Christmas lights during the Holiday Season.
We are proud to say that we have won all 8
years since the inception of the event in 2003.
! With the hard work of Michael Cox, who
captained the light design team the light
display was unveiled during our annual Mega
Turkey Dinner with head chef and brother
Mark Riley. We are proud to say that our
Rivalry Run inspired theme earned us first
place among light designs. The design was a
breast cancer ribbon signifying our new Rivalry
Run philanthropy commitment to The Stefanie
Spielman Fund.
! As you can see from the pictures, the light
display took many hours to complete but it
illuminated 15th Avenue throughout the cold
winter nights.

BOARD OF CHAPTER ADVISORS UPDATE
By Brian Thompson 06’ BCA
! A couple weeks back I had the pleasure of
meeting and spending some time with the Omicron
Deuteron Autumn 2010 Chi pledge class. From their
perspective, I was curious to know what stood out
about FIJI against all other Greek organizations on
campus. In short, I wanted to know why they chose
to become a FIJI. The answer was one word:
Brotherhood. In digging deeper I found that the
sweetest influence for this class goes beyond simply
hanging out or attending chapter dinners. It is the
motivation, inspiration,
and mentorship they
receive from interacting
with the brothers. The
brothers who are helping
them to become more
driven, goal oriented,
outstanding, better men.
They all feel they have
truly found a Fraternity
unlike any other that will
help them reach their
goals. And it starts with
Brotherhood.
! This most recent
pledge class is full of
potential. Their average GPA is a 3.2 and among
them are the president of Romophos, an SAC
member, a University Ambassador, a Chemistry TA, a
Student Government representative, two Pre-Law
and two Pre-med. Did I mention these young men
are just starting their Sophomore year? The future
for this class is bright and the caliber of this class is a
direct reflection of continued success of OΔ. As the
recruitment motto says, “replace yourself ”. I only
spent three hours with the seven members of this
class but I walked away feeling extremely proud of
the chapter and in the days since, I have found
myself inspired by their success and potential.
!
You truly are a FIJI for life and it’s moments like
these that make me damn proud to be a FIJI. The
work these young men are accomplishing at OΔ and
on campus is carrying the FIJI flag to ever greater
heights. Many challenging opportunities lie ahead
for the chapter. OSU is seeking to expand Greek life
!
from the current 7% to 14% of the student
population and new housing rules are requiring
Sophomores to live on-campus. Under this new rule,
Fraternity and Sorority houses will count as oncampus living facilities, opening the door for many
potential new brothers. The change from quarters to
semesters is quickly approaching (Autumn 2012) and
will have a significant impact on chapter operations.
A strong BCA and House Corporation will be vital in
guiding the chapter and providing this outstanding
pledge class the
opportunity to succeed in
the coming years. I am
happy to say the
integration and
cooperation among BCA,
HC, OSU, and
Headquarters is at an all
time high, but we are
always looking for
motivated graduate
brothers who desire to
give back to the Fraternity
which has guided so many
of our lives, mine included.
!
If you are curious
about the outstanding work going on at OΔ I
encourage you to attend Pig Dinner in the fall. Plans
for this year’s dinner are beginning to take shape and
some exciting details are emerging. The featured
speaker, venue, and the tradition are making this
dinner one you will not want to miss. Keep an eye
out for the invitation in the mail and I look forward
to seeing you at Pig!

“NOT FOR COLLEGE DAYS ALONE”
BY DWIGHT MONTGOMERY, PRESIDENT, HOUSE CORPS
This column is a new edition
to the Buckeye Fiji and is used to
thank and acknowledge those
graduate brothers who go out of
their way to remember that Phi
Gamma Delta is “not for college
days alone.”
This week we are recognizing
Jon Wagner and his outstanding
support as a Fiji. Jon has been
instrumental by his support to
The Omicron Deuteron Chapter
at The Ohio State University
through his generous donations
when the effort was made to bring
Phi Gamma Delta back to Ohio
State.
John was very active during his
years at Ohio State, including
being President during some of
the strongest years in membership
at The Omicron Deuteron
Chapter.
Jon currently resides in
Dublin, Ohio with his wife
Laurie , and three children.
We are proud to acknowledge
Jon as a brother who continues to
remember that Phi Gamma Delta
is “Not for college days alone”.
OHIO STATE PHI GAMMA DELTA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Do you want two season footba$ tickets?
Ohio State University and Phi Gamma Delta
have joined to make a scholarship plan for all
members of the Omicron Deuteron chapter of
Phi Gamma Delta. This plan has been in place
since 2003 and has raised over $350,000 while
rewarding many deserving members of the
Omicron Deuteron chapter.
The plan is very simple. Any member, who
joins or is presently a member of The President’s
Club, can earmark their funds to be used for the
members of the Omicron Deuteron Chapter.
The donor also qualifies to purchase two season
football tickets. What a great way to give back to
the University and fraternity that has meant so
much to all of us.
Please consider being a part of this great
program. If you have any questions about how it
works you can contact any of the House Corp. or
BCA to discuss how to be a part of this great
opportunity. Their contact information can be found
on the last page of this edition of Buckeye FIJI.
