where the Pig Dinner will be held are still
tentative, with the hope of having it at the

A Look At The

Mudbowl
Homecoming, 1970
Homecoming this year was another success. Friday night
tapped off with John Sebastian in concert and a party
which lasted until the wee hours of the morning. The
football team contributed to the festivities by whipping CW
Post 42-7. Immediately foOowing was THE GAME the
annual
mudbowl.
Paul
Kenneth
Wood,
former
Massachusetts all-state receiver won the game for Fiji for
the second year in a row. Woody also provided
entertainment for Alumni families at the buffet following.
All brothers were in agreement that conversation with
Alumni during Homecoming was beneficial and enjoyable.

during the last rushing period. They are; Dana Chase and
Bruce Madden from Danvers, Mass.; Barry Hopping and

FIJIs in Athletics
The Fiji Castle is well represented on the playing fields
once again this year. Nine Fijis donned the pads for Walt
Abbott's Black Bears including the starting middle
linebacker, three fourths of the starting defensive backfield,
and one half of the offensive backfield. John Rhodes at
middle linebacker was consistent in crushing opposing ball
carriers, while Pat Ladd, Bob Hayes, and Jim Walsh were
discouraging the passing game. On he other side of the ball
wingback Chris Eaton and tailback Mike Porter moved the
ball for the Bears.
Jack Butterfields' Yankee Conference co-champion.ship
baseball team is expected to repeat this year. The club is led
by Fiji captain Jim Chaplin. The lanky right bander has
been the Bear's pitching ace for the past two seasons and
has a promising future on the mound. Brother Steve
Hopping at first base has been the squad's clean up hitter
for two seasons and is back to spark the offensive punch.
Junior Brian Lyons has been honored by his teammates
for his outstanding performance on the soccer field. He is
captain-elect of the 1971 team.
One of our new freshman pledges, John French, is
Lisbon Falls; Bruce Taylor from Orleans. Mass.; and Kim
another member of Maine's athletic teams. He wrestles for
