Brothers, let me begin by in
troducing myself. My name is Jim
Freeman, the new Chapter President
here at 239. With my first article
I would like to aquaint you with
some of my thoughts concerning our
Chapter.
'
Since I became a Brother here in
the fall of 1974 things have changed
rather drastically. We have grown
from numbers ranging in the teens to
the present 31 in house Brothers(capasity) and 15 out of house Brothers.
We also have a present pledge class
of 9. Our service projects have ex
panded from one per year, to two per
term! Our graduate relations prog
ram has been improving constantly
and our Board of Chapter Advisors
has a strong core of 8 Brothers that
have contributed greatly to the grow
th of the Chapter. In the three
years that I have been here I have
never experienced a closer unit of
Brothers and friendship.
Naturally, the work of the past
presidents and Brothers have made
all this a reality . Unfortunately,
in our present position it is very
easy to become complacent. There
fore, it is my job to make sure that
we are constantly striving for im
provement in every aspect of the
Fraternity.
Here is a breef agenda of act
ivities for Spring term. First, is
the all house participation in helping
the patients at the Ingham County
Extended Care Facility,.for the aged
and disabled.
Second, we are spon
soring a Bike-a-Thon for the Nation
al Diabetes Association on May 15th.
In addition we are sponsoring the all
Sorority Tricycle Race held duringv„
Greek Week. Also, don't forget the
Graduate Picnic on May 14th, with a
BCA meeting to be held that morning,
all Grads are invited. In closing
let me say that if you have any

Jim Freeman Chapter President
"not for college days alone."
As past history has proven Grad
picnic on May 14th, will prove again
to be one of the FIJI highlights of
spring term. Softball, golf,card
playing, and lunch will be part of
the program which is run in an
informal atomsphere. Needless to say
beer and other refreshments will be
on hand for those who wish to indulge.
In the past few years, graduate
relations at Epsilon Lambda have been
picking up with the support of not
only our graduates, but from the
undergraduates at the chapter itself.
Grad picnics in the past years at 239
Oakhill produced little support from
both the graduate and undergraduate
level, but this year we hope the
event will take a different turn as
we are putting our full efforts into
the function.
Because of its more informal nature
grad picnic is our most spirited
event of the year. Away from all
the women, the men of Phi Gamma Delta
both young and old are able to meet
in a more relaxed atomsphere.
So get
ready for some down to earth serious
and competitive golf, softball, cards
or drinking.
Take a break from the
wife or girlfriend (or both) for an
afternoon you'd regret missing.
For many of those graduates that
have not been back to Epsilon Lambda
in awhile you will find our chapter
a completely different one.
Total
chapter membership is 49 and we have
once again become involved in the
multiple campus activities and
service projects. We hope our success
on campus will be reflected in the
success and revival of our graduate
programs.
\r\n239 SPORTS
With all the boys well rested
from a super Florida trip the FiJi
"boors" head into Spring training.
We expect great things from 239 this
spring because of the many gifted
athletes we have.
Our golf team
should be exceptional having three
high school varsity golfers on it,
Jim Freeman, Sean Hickey and
Ted
Stacy. Our once feared softball
squad is off to a poor start losing
to both Sigma Chi and the Delts.
Tenis and track are looking very
strong though, with many Brothers
interested.
The tenis team has
already won five out of six matches
and are improving. Just by partic
ipating in track we are improving
100'% because the only time we ran
before was when the bars opened.
Maybe the music from "Rocky" will
inspire the boys.
Presently we are ninth out of
twenty three Fraternities in the
all sports race and with the full
participation by the Brothers we
will be asured to end up in the
top seven or so, the best in years.
nights of imbibing. Wednesday was our
pre-rush party, Thursday was Broth
er Gebarowski's '77 Stag party,Friday
was the Rush paryy and Saturday was
Brother G.'s wedding. Needless to
say Sunday was I^nd R day (retching
and recuperation).
On May
7th we are all going to pile in a
bus and head to Detroit for a Tiger
Ball game.
If you are there we will
be in the center field bleachers,
you woh't miss us.
The day after is
Parents Day so 1 hope we can all
Stand. It is also Mothers Day and
each of us will present our mother
with a Fiji rose. Saturday, May
14th is Grad Picnic and we hope to
see you all there as it; is a guar
anteed good time. This also starts
off Greek Week which looks like it
will be bigger than ever.
As al-
* ways on Memorial Day weekend we have
Fiji Island (l hope the Stags get
dates) which is always an excellent
time.
I hope if you are in
the area you will stop by, it is
always good to have the Grads in town.

NEWS
So far this term the boys at 239
have been very active socially. After
one of the best win ter terms in his
tory and the annual trip to Florida
you might think eveyone would be worn
out.
However, this is far from being
the case.
We started off with the
customary all Greek TG at Coral Gables
accompanied by"swilling"of FREE BEER!
The next week really took its toll
on the Brothers as we had four straight
stinctive to our university.
Thus,
we hashed over several names and
came back to the original name used
when we first became a Phi Gamm Chap
ter back in 1959. Many of you may re
member that Chapter on 334 Michigan
Avenue and hopefully this letter along with its new title will bring
back fond thoughts of your college
experiences.
