THE
OMICRON
CHAPTER OF PHI GAMMA DELTA - UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
GREETINGS FROM THE TEMPLE
After an incredibly strong
spring rush, during which the
% chapter brought in nineteen new
a lings, psyche among the brothers
- \ at 128 Madison has been at an
all-time high.
The chapter has remained per-
sistent in its strive for excellence
this semester. Our Brotherhood
continues to be one of the larg-
est and strongest on grounds with
88 brothers. Our chapter GPA was
a 3.4 which remains among the top
i fraternity averages. The chapter hosted
the annual “Hoos In Sync” philanthro-
py in the yard of the Temple with the
/ _ sisters of Sigma Kappa, and we were able
to raise over $1,100 for the Sigma Kappa
Foundation for Alzheimer’s Research and
Building Tomorrow. Our service and philan-
thropic efforts were once again rewarded when
we received IFC Awards for “Outstanding Service
to the Community” and “Outstanding Philan-
thropy Program.” Brothers Chris Megaw (’09) and
Eric Scofield (10) also received awards for “Outstand-
ing Chapter President” and “Outstanding Contribution
to the University,” respectively. We've also maintained a
busy social calendar, which included an
epic formal to Kill Devil Hills in North
Carolina in early April. The Highpoint
Championship eluded us this year, but
plans to take it back are in the works
for this coming Fall. As you can see, the
Omicron Chapter is proud of its accom-
plishments, but we are already setting
our sights higher.
As the semester comes to a close, we
hope all of the graduate beans had a great
time at Foxfield and Island. We look for-
ward to seeing the Class of 1964 and oth-
ers at this summer’s Reunions. If you will
not be returning, we hope you can join us
for Pig Dinner next fall on the weekend
of October 9th and 10th. Although we
will be sending more details soon, we en-
courage you to go ahead and make hotel
reservations as it is Homecoming Week-
end. And if you're ever in the Hook, we'd
love to see you at the Temple.
Fraternally,
Kevin Dowlen
Omicron President 09

\r\nGRADUATE NEWS
David Mead (05) has been living in Puerto Rico and making drugs
(for Amgen) since graduation. While enjoying year-round summer detes,
he recently got engaged to Marian Quinones.
Arthur B. Johnson (’60) at the age of 70
continues to work as a financial advisor
at Smith Barney. After retiring from Bell
Atlantic in 1991 I have been a FA for 17
years. I still see Brothers Gordon Gentry
(59), Roger Zensen (60) & John Sa-
banosh (’60) at U.Va. Football games as
we have season tickets together.
Edgar D. McKean III (’70) retired from
my law practice in June, 2007. No re-
grets. How peaceful it is to have forever
put away the trial calendar. Louise and I
split time between our island camp in the
middle of Lake Winnipesaukee, NH and
our home in La Malbaie, Quebec, two
hours northeast of Quebec City.
William C. Gerstmyer (’79) started his
own architecture firm, with colleagues,
Forever Architects in Concord, Mass.
Andy Herz (’84) has been hard at work
yet hardly working on re-releasing an old
reggae film (thehardertheycome.com);
the new website and soundtrack for a
newer Charlottesville music film (live-
fromthehook.com); producing a new al-
bum of old songs (songsinthekeyofhope.
com); making friends with other lawyers,
especially in the Hook.
John Cachero (’01) now runs a success-
ful photography business in Hampton
Roads. Visit johncachero.com to check
out his recent work or for information
on weddings or your own personal fiji
island.
Jeremy Hogg (’03) and wife Melanie still
live in Alexandria. Jeremy is in a week-
end MBA program at UNC and in be-
tween jobs, while Melanie is still at her
same company. No little Hogg’s yet, but
maybe in a year or so...
FIJI WEDDINGS
‘This summer brings another round of Fiji
weddings. The following three brides-to-
beare also in the UVA Greek family. Nick
Kristoff (’06) will be marrying Austin
Cline (06) June 13th on Hilton Head
Island, Jon Ziefle (05) will be marrying
Courtney Williams (06) in the Hook
June 27th, Dan Laufer (’06) will be mar-
rying Molly Harris (07) in the Hook
September 12th, and Andrew Garrahan
(GIS) Ris Mancteastte atl yma cra @ic})
December 15th in the Hook.
Brad McConnell (’04) is currently sta-
tioned in Tallil, Iraq with the U.S. Army
as a Battalion Electronic Warfare Officer,
Convoy Commander, and Safety Officer.
Recently completed Master's thesis in ge-
netics while deployed to become a double
Hoos. Wifing hard and looking to pop
the question soon. Likely moving to the
D.C. area in late August and will be in
need of a job. A law degree and patent
law career are on the horizon.
Jesse Lund (’06) relocated to Sarasota,
Florida in Dec 2008 to pursue a job in
Coastal Engineering and currently lives
with fellow FIJI Rickey Matthews (’06).
Erickson Consulting Engineers primar-
ily focuses on beach nourishment and
restoration projects within Florida and
the Turks & Caicos Islands. Jesse is also
engaged to Lori Hodges (06) whom he
met through a mutual UVA friend while
still in Arlington, VA. The wedding is
planned for October 2010 in Virginia.
Joel Swider (08) is currently residing in
Lima, Peru with the family of another

GRADUATE UPDAT
The spring Fraternity Alumni Council meeting brought a
number of interesting announcements regarding the Greek
community.
First of all, Beta Theta Pi will be buying back their origi-
nal house on Rugby Road from Delta Upsilon. DU will be us-
ing proceeds from the sale to construct a new chapter house on
Madison Lane. Beta’s previous residence on Chancellor Street
will be put up for sale — and hopefully remain Greek owned.
