DELTA ASSOCIATION UPDATE
By: David “Whitey” Berardinelli (1993), Delta Association President
Delta Chapter
continues its
climb back to
excellence while
fast becoming a
place we can all
once again feel
proud and comfortable with
upon returning
to campus.
After the closure for the 2008-09 year,
the new brotherhood continues to recruit new members representing a variety of campus activities including but
not limited to Football, Lacrosse, and
Soccer. More importantly, the character and personalities of these young

men intermeshes with our proud tradition. If you have an opportunity to return to Old Greystone, you will experience the remarkable way that the
new Brotherhood is reinstituting the
personality and presence of our beloved
fraternity.
The leadership (now Juniors) made a
courageous decision last fall to reopen
the House. Their tremendous effort
and dedication continues as the
Brotherhood grows in numbers and
reestablishes itself as a leader on campus.
The future is bright and FIJI is ready
to shine at Bucknell. Everyone should
be proud, but the road back to prominence is still a long one. The support
of all brothers, current and alumni, is
crucial as we continue this journey.
CHAPTER PRESIDENT’S ADDRESS
By: Matt Harbin (2012), Chapter President
With the winter break approaching, the
Delta house is beginning to take back its
post as the dominant house on campus. All summer, Carson and the current brothers ran the house and provided the football team with the luxurious Greystone mansion. After only a few
weeks into the fall semester with 14 new
potential members (initiated on November 17), the house had already become a
tight knit group, especially with it being
occupied in the summer by the football
team. With the football players, lax team
members, a few soccer players, and retired football/lax players, the house
truly has a dynamic unmatched on campus.
During the semester, the Delta house
has been committed to helping out the
community, raising money for charity,
and being a large contributor to the
Bucknell student body. Many of the
brothers participated in Relay for Life
last semester to raise money to fight
cancer and Halloween Habitat for Humanity to raise money for a home being
built locally. Also, several hours were
spent performing maintenance for the
Bucknell cemetery. So many brothers
play vital roles on their respective sports
teams and yet still find time to participate in organizations like the Small
Business Center, Big Brothers, and multiple clubs.
As we look to the future, the Delta house
wants to continue its contributions to
the community and recruit new members and add quality brothers to the core
group of hand picked new members.
Spring will prove to be an important
phase in the rebuilding of this once
great house and the brothers plan to
take any challenge head on.
In that regard, I invite you to attend
Pig Dinner on April 16, 2011 and we
look forward too seeing you back at
Greystone.

NOTES FROM THE CHAPTER OFFICERS
“The past fifteen months certainly haven’t
been typical for a fraternity. The combination of restoring/maintaining good standing with the university, recruiting a pledge
class with the disadvantage of the dry
year, learning the formalities of Greek life,
all while being part of a young cabinet,
have been challenging. However, with
challenge comes growth. Delta Chapter is
growing in numbers, presence and pride.
We were fortunate to take a small but diverse pledge class of 14 sophomore men
this fall. The diverse group draws from the
football, lacrosse and soccer teams as well
as several former and non-athletes. Our
mission was to build a unique class that
would have the opportunity and ability to
grow together.
As the semester comes to an end, it is obvious that the pledge class has “bought in”.
They have matured and taken on responsible roles in the continued growth of Delta
Chapter. Recruitment and continued establishment of chapter operations will be
primary focuses for us in the spring.
Thank you to the Delta Association and all
alumni. Your support has been essential to
the reemergence of FIJI at Bucknell.”
Carson Rohrbaugh (2012)
Treasurer
“This has been the most exciting semester
of my college career. We have acquired a
terrific pledge class with a variety of interests and backgrounds, and this group of
young men has united together in all areas. Although we are currently a smaller
chapter because we only consist of two
pledge classes , every member has a
unique relationship with all of his brothers, and for this the current cabinet is very
proud. As we have taken over the responsibilities of Old Greystone, we feel that we

are really accomplishing our goals that
were set as pledges; we are achieving
greatness in the classroom, community,
and athletic field. We urge all graduate
brothers of this remarkable chapter to join
us on April 16, 2011 for the first Norris Pig
Dinner to be held at our house in years.
Overall, it saddens me to think about
handing over the reigns of the chapter to
our successors. However, we know as a
cabinet that we could not have asked for
a finer group of young men to fulfill the
character and traditions that all Fiji men
endure.”
Mike Allwin (2012) and Andrew
Bell (2012) – Corresponding and
Recording Secretaries
“Over the past two years I have watched
the fraternity grow into an open and
friendly place. The amount of hard work
and dedication that both the brothers
and pledges have put in this year has
truly been amazing. As a pledge last
year, it was tough to comprehend the
amount of work that needs to put in to
make a fraternity work well, but now as
a member of the cabinet, I have witnessed first-hand the amount of commitment needed, especially in leadership positions. As Historian, I have
helped the pledges and other brothers in
their pursuit of knowledge about the
history of Phi Gamma Delta, Delta
Chapter.
Since returning to campus last year, our
fraternity has made a conscious effort to
become active in the local community.
Activities like working at the Donald
Hieter Center and helping clean up
downtown Lewisburg have really helped
bring out fraternity together. Joining
Phi Gamma Delta has been a wonderful
experience and I am doing everything in
power to make a great experience for
our pledges and other brothers. I am
thoroughly excited to watch our fraternity continue to grow in scholarship and
friendship throughout my years at Bucknell and beyond.”
Tim Bolte (2012) - Historian
(Elected to the First Team Patriot
League All-Academic Team as Linebacker)
“My experiences thus far in Phi Gamma
Delta have been some of the best in my
life. The best decision I have made thus
far at Bucknell University is choosing to
join FIJI. As Pledge Class President, I
have grown extremely close to the members of the Cabinet as they have shown
me the in’s and out’s of Fraternity life
and what really goes in to creating the
brotherhood all of my pledge brothers
and I have been dreaming of. Through
my joining, I have been introduced to
numerous backgrounds that I was previously not aware of and have broadened
my horizon for the better. I look forward
to the remainder of this semester and
the next as my brothers continue to
teach me about Friendship, Knowledge,
Service, Morality, and Excellence.”
Patrick Joyce (2013)
Pledge Class President
“I am currently a Sophomore accounting major pledging Phi Gamma Delta.
Thus far, my pledging has been filled
with wonderful experiences, lasting
lessons, and great memories in my
quest for brotherhood. Our 2013 pledge
class is very diverse, including members
from several athletic organizations and
backgrounds. However, we have made
strives to become one unified and inseparable class, through various bonding experiences. I can recognize the
characteristics of a strong comradeship
amongst the brothers, and as pledges we
are quickly filling these roles. Whether
it be studying for exams, cleaning the
house, attending each other’s events, or
fulfilling our responsibilities in the community, we do everything in unity.
As a fraternity, it is clear we really care
about our image, especially throughout
the Bucknell community. The five core
values- friendship, knowledge, service,
morality, and excellence-are emphasized every chapter meeting. We develop these values throughout the community and continue to improve on
them, utilizing them to build strong
character. I have never met such a great
group of standout men, with high morals and dreams for the future. After reflecting on the great experiences, lessons, and friendships I have made, I can
truly say pledging this admirable fraternity was one of the greatest and most
beneficial decisions of my life. I look
forward to becoming an official member
in the prestigious brotherhood of Phi
Gamma Delta.”

PHILANTHROPY UPDATE
By: Jason Katz (2012), Philanthropy Chairman
So far this semester, the Brothers of Phi Gamma Delta have been involved
with several community service and philanthropy projects in the Lewisburg
area. We have raised money for Habitat for Humanity, helped clean and
reorganize the Donald Hieter Community Center, and taken part in cleanups
in downtown Lewisburg and the Lewisburg Cemetery. We have met all of
our philanthropy requirements, and for the end of the semester we plan on
hosting a canned food drive.
