Fall 2010
What a semester it has been; from homeless shelters to
learning the songs ofthousands ofFijis before us. The
tremendous white house on the corner of Guadalupe
and 27th Street has seen many changes, but also strides
toward a new and revived Tau Deuteron chapter.
Five new committees were created at the start of the
Semester for members of the sophomore class to fill.
These included Events committee that oversees TX/OU
Weekend and Pig Dinner. The philanthropy commit
tee has been responsible for emphasizing philanthropy
as a new and essential component of pledgeship. The
freshmen have consistently attended Feed The People,
campus and Buen Retiro. The Restorations committee
has been a great help to the House Manager, in an ef
fort to keep Buen Retiro in the most pristine condition.
The Academic Committee is responsible for schedul
ing the freshmen's' daily study hall sessions as weU as

resource to them, in what can be a very intense adjust
ment period. All of the sophomores that are heading
these committees have done and excellent job.

\r\nA Word from the President
Hello again from Buen Retiro,
My name is Jackson Roche and I am the current chapter president. It has been a successful fall semester at
Tau Deuteron and chapter operations are going smoothly. On behalf of the cabinet, I would like to thank the
many alumni who have made themselves available to the chapter. Alumni support is stronger than ever and
has ensured that our chapter stay pointed in the right direction. It is great to see so many Fijis who still care
stronglyabout our fraternity and I hope that our pledge classes will make similar contributions in the future.
Our freshman pledge class is making tremendous progress in internalizing the values that make Phi Gamma
Delta great. By and large, the pledges are doing well in their courses and continue show improvement. Out
side of the classroom, the freshmen are keeping up with assigned readings from the Purple Pilgrim. Record
ing secretary, Parker Brody, is administering reading tests on a weekly basis and the scores are consistently
strong. The chapter is both pleased and impressed by the freshman class's desire learn about Phi Gamma
Delta.
On the philanthropic front, the pledges have volunteered with a number ofservice organizations. So far this
semester, they have contributed over four hundred and fifty hours ofcommunity service to the Austin area.
I would like to recognize sophomores Michael Atmar (Houston, Tx) and Eric Rogers (Southlake, Tx) for
their work on the philanthropy committee. They have worked tirelessly to provide the chapter with a range of
meaningful service opportunities at the University and within the Austin area.

It's hard to believe the fall semester has come and gone so qjft^ClyrThe e^nts committee is already making
plans for our annual Pig Dinner which will take place on April 9, 2011^Hq'an effort to bring back the rituals
and honors that make Pig Dinner a special event, we will nbhbe-htJldrngTt in conjunction with parents' week
end. We are hopeful that the chapter and alumni's dedication to improving the Pig Dinner will make next
spring's dinner one of the best in recent memory.
Thanks to everyone for your continued dedication to Texas Fiji. If you have any questions or comments,
please feel free to contact me at Jackson.Roche@gmail.com, or by phone at (512) 484-9258. We appreci

\r\nBrothers,
This summer, the rush team and the Board of Chapter Advisors did an extraordinary job fundraising for
rush. New restrictions on sororities and their rush procedures have changed the landscape for the entire
Greek system, and accordingly, we had to adjust. Our success in pledging a strong group of young men at
such a large size is a testament to the work being done behind the scenes at Tau Deuteron.
This year, our budget has stayed well on course, and it has largely been due to the great cooperation be
tween the cabinet and our social chairs, Dawson Lewis and Charlie Rexford. With the Texas Fiji alumni
email list, we have seen a lot more parents and alumni at attendance for tailgates this year, and we've been
able to increase the levelof alumni involvement significantly. Additionally, credit goes to the rest of the
chapter for getting their dues in on time and allowing our chapter cash flows to operate effectively through
out the semester.
I would lastlylike to note the great work our House Manager, Robert Schulte, has alreadyprovided this
year. He has been working around the clock with Sue Raymond and Robert Heiser and the House Corpora
tion to keep Buen Retire in the highest condition. Recently, Mr. Heiser and Sue havebeen developing plans
to organize fundraising for the new capital campaign for the chapter house. In the next few years, we hope
to begin renovations on the backhouse and Zifley's to keep our property current with the times. Texas Fiji
remains the greatest fraternity on campus, and the efforts being undertaken today will be instrumental to
our continued success in the future.

\r\nRush 2010 Donors
The 2010 rush summer was extremely successful. We were able to raise oveK^O.OOO^nd host a number ofevents
to get to know prospective pledges. This unprecedented success would not haveheen possible without the gen
erous donations of our alumni and parents. We thank not only those who gave monetary contributions, but to
those who hosted fundraising events and those who spent countless hours being involved in the rush process.
Yourtime and energy did not go unnoticed and is still greatly appreciated. We would like to recognize the fol
lowing individuals and thank them for their efforts. We look forward to your continued support of Tau Deuteron.
