RUDOLPH NAMED DISTINGUISHED FIJI
This year Lambda lota was presented
of the Purdue Alumni Foundation, and a
with its third Distinguished Fiji Award win
ner since the chapter's inception in 1928.
Brother Rudolph ('48) has joined the
member of the Board of Governors of the
ranks of brother Burr Swezey ('31) and
brother Arthur Hansen ('46) in becoming
one of this year's recipients of the
prestigious award. Only three awards are
given annually, and they are based on an
individual's achievement in his selected
field of work and service to the fraternity.
Brother Rudolph possesses an im
pressive list of credentials which he has
«ac.,uired from his endeavors at Purdue
University and Lambda lota chapter. He is
currently serving as Executive Director of
the Purdue Alumni Association and also
the coordinator of the John Purdue Club.
In addition, he is Director of the University
Alumni Address Department, a Director
Purdue Foundation. His chapter respon
sibilities include serving as treasurer of
the Alpha Graduate Corporation and as a
member of the Board of Chapter Advisors.
Before procuring his position with Pur
due in 1949, brother Rudolph worked as
a sales representative for the Illinois Bell
Telephone Company. He also served for
three years as a field secretary for the
Alumni Association.
Because of Mr. Rudolph's ac
complishments and recent selection as
one of this year's Distinguished Fiji Award
winners, all of the brothers of Lambda lota
chapter wish to extend their congratula
tions to him. We hope that in the future,
more graduate brothers from this chapter
will become members of this select group.
periences in athletic events, and in par
ticular, putting up with Bobby Knight.
At this point the dinner was officially
over, but to end the account here would
be to miss the meaning of the dinner.
What may well have turned out to be
another boring dinner ended up as an
emotional experience for both the
undergraduates, who saw the meaning of
the Fraternity and the grads, who saw the
caliber and interest of the Brothers in the
house. The main point that was stressed
by grads and readily learned by the
undergraduates was that: Phi Gamma

THE QUESTION?
On February 14, 1981 at the Annual
Meeting of Members and Board of Direc
tors of the Lambda lota Graduate Cor
poration a resolution was passed: ''That
the Lambda lota Graduate Corportion
recommends that the undergraduate
chapter refrain from serving beer or other
alcoholic beverages to Alumni before and
after home football games."
The reasons the graduate chapter gave
for passing this resolution was the increas
ed legal responsibilities of the house to
the people whom they serve alcohol to,
and the tightening of the University
Policys regarding the consumption of
alcoholic beverages on and around the
university campus.
At this time their is concern from the

This years Grand Prix and its festivities
were very enjoyable. Our sister sorority.
Kappa Alpha Theta joined us for a week
filled with many good times. Activities
ranged from a mini Fiji Island to a formal
champagne party.
We would like to extend a world of
thanks to our sponsors who made it all
possible. They included Gary Irvin of
Irvin's Concrete Products, Bill Hatlem of
Manco Products, Fort Wayne, In., and
Let's Munch Out, a local sub shop.
In qualifying Gerry Mason piloted our

Dear Graduate Brothers:
It is never to early to start thinking about our rush program. We are looking forward to a
successful one this fall. Rush will start on August 30th and end on October 18th. Two
important functions that we will have are: the canoe trip with the brothers, and Pizza with
the Graduates which are October 1st and 13th respectively. If you have any ideas, con
tributions, and especially names of possible Fiji material, please feel free to contact me.
There is a rush form attached to Boilermaker Fiji for your convenience.

After many weeks of Pledgeship, Initia

1981, 21 young men were initiated into
the Lambda Iota Chapter.
This years initiation was special in many
ways. First we were all very pleased with
the attendance of twenty-three
distinguished graduate brothers. Along
with the uncommonly large graduate tur

significance to those fathers and brothers
who saw seven members of the pledge
