EVENTS
We enter our 3rd year of the Lambda Nu's capital cam
paign with great excitement. On December 19th, we
received a $50,000 check from John Gottschalk in ful
fillment of his challenge. John, our thanks go out to
you and Carmen for your generous support. Thank
you, also,to the many brothers who contributed to the
challenge since May.

One last major change of which you should be aware
is the Campaign Committee's decision to discontinue
our contract with Pennington. This decision was made
to help maximize the use of our donations towards its
intended purpose—renovating the chapter house. Our
sincerest gratitude goes out to the dedicated brothers
who have stepped forward to do the work that will en
able us to save these administrative costs. To that end,

This campaign has been a huge undertaking requiring
many sacrifices from many brothers. It was started to
meet the needs of our chapter house. It has resulted
in bringing many graduate brothers back into contact
with the undergraduate chapter, making Lambda Nu
a stronger fraternity and renewing many friendships.
Thank you, again, for the continued support.

\r\nGraduate Efforts Improve Chapter House
Brothers,
The Lambda Nu House Corporation Board has had a busy and produc
tive year at the Chapter House. This past summer we invested approxi
mately $10,000 to make necessary plumbing, electrical and cosmetic
repairs. We also partially renovated the house mother's quarters due
to water damage and obtained free carpeting for the second and third
floors. I'd like to thank Scott Thompson '94 for procuring the carpet
ing for us. I would like all brothers to seriously consider donating to
the capital campaign as we are practicing a band-aid policy to the house
at this time which is proving to be quite costly but necessary. I would
also like to thank all the Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers who
donated time to help with the repairs.
The board has also been very active in providing a leadership role for
the undergraduates. In the past this vital role has been filed by a BCA
(Board of Chapter Advisors) and we are going to make an effort in
2010 to form a new BCA group that would meet quarterly with the
undergraduate cabinet to assist in an advisory role. Over the past year
we've made great strides and have helped craft,"Lambda Nu: The Way
Forward". This is a simple goal setting document for the undergradu
ates to follow in the years ahead. It also unites many of our tradi
tions with the realities of today's college environment. If any graduate
brothers have interest in serving on the BCA and are dedicated to its
success please contact me at 402-212-7374 or john@ 14karatomaha.
com
Lastly,I would admonish all of you who have not yet contributed to the
capital campaign to do so. For Lambda Nu to continue to succeed at
UNL we need an all out effort from every brother. I would remind all
of you, that the chapter house is a symbol of our legacy on campus and
it is YOUR house. You should feel welcome within her walls always.
Fraternally,
John Osterholm '95

Graduate Spotlight
Brother Wes Madden has provided a shining example for Phi Gamma Delta since his graduation in
May of 2000. Wes left Lincoln as a commissioned Army Officer and attended Officer Basic Course
in San Antonio and then proceeded on to Flight School at Fort Rucker,Alabama. His training led him
to become an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer in Alaska where he flew a UH - 60 Blackhawk heli
copter while performing rescue missions across the state. In 2004, Wes was deployed to Afghanistan
in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. As a helicopter pilot and Detachment Commander the
unit Wes led was responsible for the evacuation of over 2000 coalition forces and civilians from the
battlefield. For his actions. Brother Madden was awarded three Air Medals.
In 2006 a hip replacement pushed Wes into medical retirement from the Army and into the real estate
business. He currently owns Madden Real Estate which is Alaska's top selling residential real estate
team. He and his wife Laura reside in Fairbanks with their three sons Bo (4), Sam (2), and Max (5
months). Their family loves to fish, hunt, and enjoy the Alaskan outdoors. Wes and his fellow Fair
banks Huskers can also be found loudly rooting on the team each gameday.
If you know a graduate we should spotlight,
or if you'd like to submit information for the
Wes'fondest FIJI memory is "the time spent celebrating FIJI Islander week with his brothers."

Graduates, your referrals are vital to our recruitment efforts.
If you know a quality young man that will be attending
UNL,please contact Travis Brizendine (402.968.0741) or
Devon Schovnec(402.6762808).
\r\nPresident's Note
Once again we had an active fall semester at the chapter house. The brothers hosted a philanthropy poker tourna
ment to benefit the Humane Society and we were once again chosen to be a part of the UNL Greek Leadership Summit.
As part of the summit members of the Greek community visited our house for a fire simulation and discussion on member
safety. Along with these special events we had a full slate of homecoming, intramural, and scholarship activities.
We are now past spring break and concentrating on finishing the year strong. The rush chairmen have added 4 second semester pledges that are all
living in the house. Another charity event is planned that will involve all the Greek houses and their housemothers to raise money for the Lincoln
Food Bank. In addition to their regular course loads several members are also setting a great example across campus. Will Grubb is co-hosting
a sports radio show on the campus radio station KRNU 90.3 called "Sports Dude". Chris Benner is part of a national competition called Design,
Build, Fly which is being held by the Aeronautics and Astronautics Association. The competition culminates with the testing of the groups plane
design. Brother Jordan Mireaul has been accepted as a summer intern for the Special Olympics which will be held in Lincoln.
