HOMECOMING 1982
This year's Homecoming proved to be a phe
nomenal success as Graduate Brothers of all
ages graced old 401 with their presence. The
day started with a House Corporation meeting
discussing the current issues involving the under
graduate chapter (see article this newsletter).
Lunch was prepared by the House's famous
cook, and everyone had enough to eat and drink.
Although tickets were scarce, the Phi Gam
brothers pulled through for each other and those
without tickets were able to make it into the game.
The classes of the late fifties met this year for
a 25-year reunion. Good fun was had by ail as
about 30 members from those classes attended
the party. Special thanks to ail those whocontrib
uted to the Chapter House. We actually were in
the biacki Thank youi. The graduate brothers in
attendance included the age range of A. B.

President's Report, . .
During my term as President over the past year
at Chi lota, there have been many improvements.
These have all been possible because of the
efforts by many exceptional and motivated
brothers. These brothers have been both under
graduate and graduates. Last January brought
in a new cabinet with every member seeking to
fulfill and improve his elected position. Well, the
term is almost up and these brothers have
brought their ideas to life.
With Bradd Easton as Treasurer, a greater
financial awareness among the brothers was evi
dent. This past semester, Bradd has kept the
budget under great control and will leave this
office in great shape for his successors. Our Rush
Chairmen Dean Bartolone and Chuck Coughlin
made possible through hard work, the best rush
and the largest pledge class in recent years. In
the position of Pledge Educator has been Greg
Bishop who along with increasing the construc-
tiveness of pledge training, has also made very
much aware to the pledges and the chapter, the
Importance of pledge scholarship.
Jeff Benn took the job of Historian and made it
invaluable to the chapter. Along with the bettering
of the ritual at Chi lota, he has also done a lot of
work with the graduate brothers and has assem
bled a nice scrapbook for the house. Paul Benson

obvious that Penske, a former driver
himself, has attained considerable
success from his thirteen-year in
volvement with the sport and in
deed he has. His team has won
three Indianapolis 500's, numerous
pole positions, and five of the last
six national championship season
points titles.
Surprisingly, Penske estimates
that he only spends about five per
cent of his time directly involved
with his racing team. Most of his
time is spent acting as President of
the Penske Corporation, a multimillion dollar. New Jersey based
conglomerate he has built up over
the years which consists of; an
Energy Systems division that mar
kets generator systems, a Hertz-
Penske truck leasing network, a Los
Angeles Cadillac dealership (the
second largest Cadillac dealership
in the country), and not surprisingly
an Automotive Performance divi
sion which includes ownership of
the Michigan International Speed
way, near Jackson, Michigan.
It is there where I got the chanoe
to meet Brother Penske on a busy
September race weekend. Having
followed Indianapolis racing for
many years matJe it f^uite a big
occasion for me and in my article
for the Phi Gamma Delta I will try to

did fine work as Vioe President by
culturing the house with guest
speakers and doing other external
activities. Corresponding Secretary
Tom Fox along with doing a more
adequate job with this chapter's
publications, also took on many
extra
responsibilities
involving
alumni relations. It has been a great
year for the undergraduates and
both the House Corporation and
the BCA have played more active
and essential roles.
Chi lota brothers were also pres
ent at the Illinois Wesleyan Fiji
House Dedication as well as being
a part of initiating a new Fiji chapter
at Bradley. The chapter is very ex
cited about where it stands pres
ently and is looking forward to con
tinuing in a fine tradition. If we don't
see you in Memphis where the lllini
take on Alabama in the Libery Bowl,
we look forward to having you stop
by 401 and sharing some of your|
memories with us.

Fall IM's Bring Football Championship
For the first time in many years a
football championship was cap
tured by the Fijis. Fijis, after losing
the first game of the season, came
back to win out the remaining
games and sweep the playoffs. The
defense, captained by Charlie
leuter '83, rose to the occasion by
allowing only seven points in the
four playoff games. Joe DeAngelis
'83 and Tom Williams '83 were the
offensive punch as Tom's acrobatic
grabs landed him a place on the
I.F.C. All-Star team. An added extra
was the televising of the game by
University Television so the Phi
Gams could watch themselves on
video tape.

Ice Hockey is a new sport in

Physical Improvements
This past summer we replaced
the old tile In the kitchen with quarry

and poolroom area with new carpet

added the final touch. With the in

the dining room, and the west side
of the basement.
